WHEN GOD HAS FORSAKEN YOU, WHO WILL YOU PRAY TO?
A skeleton crew of desperate men looks to capitalize on a handsome reward offered by an eerie outsider. But when they brave the harsh winter waters to transport an ominous crate, their food supply mysteriously spoils, forcing them to stray off course. After several weeks of dead winds, absent sunlight, and diminishing rations the crew begins to question their faith and each other. As past lives of the crew are put on the chopping block, blood begins to spill. Has starvation driven them to delirium? Have they fallen out of the Lord's good graces? Or is someone or something watching their plan unfold? Based on the original screenplay by Brandon Perras-Sanchez and novelized by Aron Beauregard.

Hence my title "Not Expected but Not Disappointed".
This is some real sophisticated horror. Dark, moody, and quite theatrical if we're adding fancy sauce on this description. Throw in being trapped with a psychopath and you now have a solid gold story that needs to be passed on to only your most worthy friends, family, and/or co-conspirators. At first, I was confused. Where was the grossier than life characters that turns your stomach three sentences after their entrance. No Ma'am, Sir, Good Person. You find yourself another book. However, I challenge you to continue reading. Follow along with this skeleton crew as they sail along transporting a crate with unknown cargo. That sentence tells you spooky and terror will follow.
Without getting into the story and ruining it for you, this tale will take you on some twists as the crew questions their pasts and their fate while you wait patiently (Lies. You'll be on edge) to see what becomes of the crew and cargo. Watch them fall apart and succumb to... on the violent sea.
I gotta say Brandon Perras-Sanchez put his whole foot in the original screenplay and set Mr. Beauregard up for success in this book. At least I think so. I could be wrong, but you won't know until you finish reading this

then it’s a story that I NEED!!!
Nautical Stories are my ultimate favorite.
Fiction or non, I can never get enough.
Especially when it comes to Nautical Horror.
THE WHITE BISHOP was abSEAlutely SINsational!
It has all the things I love about Nautical Horror.
A jumbled mess of a crew hired to deliver a mysterious cargo and reap a bountiful reward…
But this maritime adventure turns into a “who done it” mystery at Sea, quickly turning sinister with dwindling & rotting supplies, deteriorating conditions and moments of pure madness, leaving us with a brutally gruesome conclusion.
This story had me feeling sea sick, claustrophobic and anxious….thrown overboard with only a raft of utter despair and a “Not so Happily ever after” on the horizon. But it’s okay, because All I see are STARS ✨
Nautical Horror…YES PLEASE!

First thing's first, I'm actually shocked at the narration performance. Not because the narrator is bad, he did a fine enough job, but because there's multiple recording errors. There are multiple times when the narrator reads a line, coughs/stumbles, and then goes back and re-reads the same exact line. This isn't a long audiobook either, so it's inexcusable that no one caught this. If Brandon Perras-Sanchez or Aron Beauregard had listened to this a single time before uploading it to audible, they'd have immediately noticed. So there's only two possibilities; they didn't care enough to spend less than 3 hours listening to the audiobook before publishing it, or they listened to it and just didn't care about the errors.
Regarding the story itself, there's really not much here. If you read the brief summary in the description of the audiobook, you pretty much know everything that happens. A captain assembles a crew to deliver some mysterious cargo for a ton of money, and then things slowly begin to go wrong on the voyage. This is a fantastic setup! Unfortunately... That's it. None of the characters really do anything at all during the course of the story.
Once the "bad things" start to happen, the rest of the story is, essentially, the entire cast of characters being miserable and hungry until they're quickly/brutally dispatched one by one. No one really does anything. They all just kinda wait around to die.
When the "end credits" begin to roll, I actually said "That's it?" I pulled out my phone and went back a couple minutes to see if I'd missed something. Turns out, nope. The story just comes to a close with a whimper.
So... yeah. Don't waste your money or audible credits.
A cash grab; no "love" went into this audiobook
