Historia
Liz Rocher is coming home . . . reluctantly. As a Black woman, Liz doesn’t exactly have fond memories of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, a predominantly white town. But her best friend is getting married, so she braces herself for a weekend of awkward, passive-aggressive reunions. Liz has grown, though; she can handle whatever awaits her. But on the night of the wedding, somewhere between dancing and dessert, the newlyweds’ daughter, Caroline, disappears—and the only thing left behind is a piece of white fabric covered in blood.

a little bit of everything
Revisado: 03-07-24
Excellent narrator and excellent book, but don't go in expecting one thing, because you will get another. This is a mystery, horror, supernatural, fantasy thriller with reality-based racism and classism mixed it. Don't expect a logical ending when monsters, both human and inhuman, are involved. I don't read books expecting everything to be based in reality, and this book is a great example of that.

Use human narrators

Use human narrators
Revisado: 02-18-24
I do not like narration with virtual voice. It lacks the feeling that a human narrator uses, can't change voices between characters like a human narrator can, and sometimes has annoying speech patterns.
The story itself was okay, although I looked up the author and it seems like many of her other books have an extremely similar storyline, except with different characters. I actually liked the story and characters more in the beginning. The dialogue seemed unnatural and many things were repeated in multiple sentences. Some of the transitions between chapters were awkward or didn't need a new chapter at that moment.

virtual voice narrator was awful
Revisado: 01-07-24
It was a virtual voice narrator. I almost DNFed it because of that. The story itself wasn't bad so if I could do it over, I would choose to just read this one myself. A lot of the narration just sounded awkward, especially swear words. I wanted to find out how it ended, so I stuck with it, but it put me off any more Audible books with virtual voice.

I listened on Audible. I loved the different stories that other authors came up with for Joe and the other characters in this series. Narrator was amazing as always. Great Collaboration!

Narrator was decent, sometimes a little too "soothing", I guess I could put it. Like, if I was already tired, it would make me go to sleep, but I wanted to listen so I would wake up, rewind, and try again. Lol.

Historia
When Mouse’s dad asks her to clean out her dead grandmother's house, she says yes. After all, how bad could it be? Answer: pretty bad. Grandma was a hoarder, and her house is stuffed with useless rubbish. That would be horrific enough, but there’s more - Mouse stumbles across her step-grandfather’s journal, which at first seems to be filled with nonsensical rants...until Mouse encounters some of the terrifying things he described for herself.

strange and creative
Revisado: 01-21-23
Narrator was good, occasionally a little monotone. Creative, strange story, different kind of horror, no gory parts.
