Historia
Years ago, bookseller and mystery aficionado Malcolm Kershaw compiled a list of the genre’s most unsolvable murders, those that are almost impossible to crack - which he titled "Eight Perfect Murders". But no one is more surprised than Mal, now the owner of the Old Devils Bookstore in Boston, when an FBI agent comes knocking on his door one snowy day in February. She’s looking for information about a series of unsolved murders that look eerily similar to the killings on Mal’s old list. And the FBI agent isn’t the only one interested in this bookseller.

Laura Willig does it again. I didn’t think I could enjoy a book as much as Band of Sisters but this book was so interesting. It was interesting to learn of the plight of the people in Barbados.

Historia
This, the first in the splendid series of Jack Aubrey novels, establishes the friendship between Captain Aubrey, Royal Navy, and Stephen Maturin, ship's surgeon and intelligence agent, against the thrilling backdrop of the Napoleonic wars. Details of life aboard a man-of-war in Nelson's navy are faultlessly rendered: the conversational idiom of the officers in the ward room and the men on the lower deck, the food, the floggings, the mysteries of the wind and the rigging, and the road of broadsides as the great ships close in battle.

My husband has read and loved the entire series. I thought I would give it a try. Even though I know nothing about sailing or naval battles, I thoroughly enjoyed the book and didn’t have any trouble following along. The narrator did an outstanding job and was well suited for this book.

Revisado: 04-25-23
This is such a great book series that I have read and listened to them all.. …well except for this last book. I could not get through the first few chapters and I adore the story. That’s how bad it is. The Narrator in the first 2 books is absolutely perfect!! Why O Why did you change it?!?!??? My advice is listen to the first 2 and just read this one!

Reader Beware!
Revisado: 02-01-23
This book was over the top with sexual abuse. I was unable to listen to the detailed descriptions of humiliation, and forced prostitution the main female character suffered. I don't care how good the spy story might be....this book made me cringe.
