Historia
Thirty-eight-year-old Posey Jarvis is the self-appointed “empress” of rural Spark in Cooke County, Tennessee. She spends her days following every word about her idol and look-alike Jackie Kennedy, avoiding her stalwart husband Vern, and struggling to control her newly defiant daughter Callie Jane—all while sneaking nips of gin. When Posey unexpectedly inherits a derelict mansion from her quirky old aunt Milbrey, she finagles her way into hosting her high school’s twentieth reunion there.

Stereotypes of southerners
Revisado: 12-30-24
The pettiness of the mother’s character. I’m sure that many people in the south will cringe at this character.
The narrator did a great job of making the mother’s character awful.

Ok
Revisado: 11-21-24
The story isn’t bad, but since this is only a short story, charging a full credit is overkill. There are several “books” in this series and they should be boxed together in a set for one credit. I hadn’t read enough of the reviews to know this or I wouldn’t have wasted my credit or time. The story is ok, very lightweight. Narration was good and was easy to listen to.

Historia
Emma London never thought she had anything in common with her grandmother Genevieve London. The regal old woman came from wealthy and bluest-blood New England stock, but that didn't protect her from life's cruelest blows. Genevieve rose from the ashes of grief and built a fashion empire that was respected the world over, even when it meant neglecting her other son. When Emma's own mother died, her father abandoned her on his mother's doorstep. Genevieve took Emma in and reluctantly raised her - until Emma got pregnant her senior year of high school.

Can I give zero stars?
Revisado: 09-24-24
The characters weren’t appealing, the sound wasn’t consistent, I HATE XE SANDS, and the grandmother’s voice wasn’t any better. I have NO IDEA why I bought this title. Can’t get my money back as I got it too long ago…
DON’T RECOMMEND.

Not the best
Revisado: 08-24-24
The three stories are not very believable. I didn’t find the stories well thought through—this seems to be the work of a relatively new author. She needs better character and plot development.
As for the performers, they were good. I graded down because of the audio quality—especially in the second book. I found I was always having to adjust volume up or down.

Revisado: 08-10-24
The author did a good job of making the evil sister and mother evil. Don’t understand the pansy father.
Sebastian York did his usual wonderful performance. I wasn’t as impressed with the female performance.

Historia
TJ Devlin is the charming disappointment in the prominent Devlin family, all of whom are lawyers at their highly successful firm—except him. After a stint in prison and rehab for alcoholism, TJ can’t get hired anywhere except at the firm, in a make-work job with the title of investigator. But one night, TJ’s world turns upside down after his older brother John confesses that he murdered one of their clients, an accountant he’d confronted with proof of embezzlement. It seems impossible coming from John, the firstborn son and Most Valuable Devlin.

Excellent
Revisado: 08-02-24
I enjoyed the twists and turns of the story. It kept me engaged and it was difficult to put down.
I thoroughly agree with the author that the performance can make or break the listener‘s engagement with the story. There are some performers I won’t listen to and others that will sometimes trip the scale to whether I pick up the book if I am “on the fence”.

Historia
Winnifred "Win" McNulty has always been wildly independent. Not one to be coddled for her limb difference, Win has spent most of her life trying to prove that she can do it all on her own. And, with some minor adjustments, she's done just fine. That is until she has a one-night stand with the incredibly charming Bo, a perfect stranger. And that one night changes everything. While Bo is surprisingly elated to step up to the plate, Win finds herself unsure of whether she can handle this new challenge on her own or if she'll need a helping hand.

Couldn’t get into this
Revisado: 06-01-24
I don’t know what I expected, but to have the book start out with an explicit sex scene wasn’t it. I’m not impressed with explicit one night stands…prefer some romancing. The characters seemed like they might make a connect, but went straight to sex for sex sake only. If that’s your interest, this books for you.

China Beach
Revisado: 04-02-24
Much of the Viet Nam portion of the book reminded me of the tv series China Beach which aired in the late 1980’s. It focused on the women in country, although not just the nurses. Too bad it’s not available on streaming services. I appreciate the suggested reading at the end.
As always, Julia’s performance enhanced the story.
This is a book I am likely to listen to again, and there are few that I listen to multiple times.

I had a hard time following the storyline because it kept jumping from one age of the main character to another. After figuring out what was going on (at least half way through the story ) it was ok.

TERRIBLE NARRATION
Revisado: 02-27-24
I listened to this to check out a virtual voice performance. IT WAS AWFUL. I regularly read Kindle editions of this author's work, so I was expecting a light story -- something I could listen to while walking. However, this is written as dual voices, but only one voice was used for the performance -- the male voice should have had an actual male virtual voice. Because everything was performed only by a female voice, there were times I totally forgot whether I was listening to the male or female story line. Further, because it's a virtual voice, the listener does not get the emotional tones that come with a person actually doing the performance.
I don't know who choses narrators, but this one was a total miss. Will wait a while before I try another virtual voice performance.
