Like I said in the headline. It's an okay story. It does have potential. II feel that this book had some great character and it. The plot was decent. The concept of the necklaces in the portal. I feel like it was a little bit rushed not enough things were fleshed out properly, leaving me scratching my head. I definitely set feel like the ending was very, very slapped on like someone was given a certain amount of pages they had to write out and that be it. I know that the rule isn't managing planets fantasyland so you can do whatever you want to and I agree with that, to a point but sometimes things still need to be fleshed out a little bit more than what I feel this particular book was. Although I do have to give points for the fact that this particular female character was very likable and she wasn't a blithering whiny idiot, which in all honesty, is probably the only reason I made it the end of the book is because the character despite being a doormat in her own world stood up for herself in the Fae realm and took care of others. I guess what I'm saying is the story. It did have some really excellent plot starts, but it's like a very big story was edited down to a very smaller one, leaving annoying gaps like watching a movie made of your favorite book and knowing that if you hadn't read the book you would know what's going on. That's kinda how I felt about this book as a whole, even though it says it's the first book. It just feels like there's a whole hell of a lot of shit missing. If that doesn't bother you, then you will find this enjoyable. If you're a person like me that likes for things to come together and make sense before the end of something. Be prepared to be confused.

I decided to give this one a shot because I had listened to the rest of the say series and I really enjoyed those. I signed and sent very interesting take on the old Greek myths. The way we recommend the modern society is awesome and there were some very humorous moments to. So despite my skepticism after having listened to the preview I think anyone who enjoys the Greek myth would probably enjoy this. I thought it was kind of fun trying to connect the characters to their modern counterparts. I actually felt for the Minotaur. I sort of wish there was more to the ending to see how Asterion and Ariadne get along. It was interesting enough to make me consider spending more credits on the rest of the novels. I thought the concept of Medusa using modern media to be able to still connect with people was awesome. Although there were some things that I was slightly confused about. I think I finally figured it out by the end of the book so I would ask anybody to be patient and at least read the whole of the first book.

I like the idea. I realize that it was probably supposed to be a quick read and maybe that's why everything seemed a little rushed. I think sometimes the author forgot things weren't explained didn't would make references to things out of the blue without the surrounding information that kinda made you want to go wait, what? For what it is it's not completely horrible because there is somewhat of a story there and the starts of good ideas that are really fleshed out in my opinion. Like I said sometimes references are made as if you've entered in the middle of the conversation or something. And even though that's the case, it was something about this one had me still waiting to see if it got any better instead of adding it to the I cannot finish pile. Despite the fact that this concept of the virtual narrator I believe is a very bad idea. The computer might have a human or rather I more like human tone to it now, but apparently it still lacks the ability to change in flexion According according to what's being expressed. Even when someone is not voice acting. When you're reading a part that is just naturally say angry or excited or erotic weathering you do the profound overreacted voice inflections as an actor would or you just add a certain paste your wording you still have more expression to what's going on, then the virtual narrator's are capable of. They do seem to be capable of adding like a somber or excited tone. There were parts that were read in altogether the wrong tempo and inflection for what was going on and this may have added to the proceeds gaps in continuity and unrealistic reactions.--Ldy Julanna-

I know this is supposed to be a quickie read, and that's fine… However, so much time was wasted. Listening to the characters embracing every cliché possible. Including "well. I'm a little moody today, so it must be my. My feelings are all over the place so it has to be my. Just to name one this was written like a really bad crack fics where one of the characters apparently has damn near omniscience all the other one who is in a position to know more things ignorance. There were also parts where it was like she couldn't make up her mind. One is a supporting character says no, don't tell her she's not ready yet whatever and then not a page later. She's like we should do this.... Among many of the problems I see with this book That being said, I will say the concept had some potential. However, if you're not one to pay attention to details. You might be all right with this

I bought the chalice book That was just released because I realized when it popped up that I did not have it I Enjoy the Percy Jackson series even though it's been for children because I've always enjoyed Gods and What not. However I accidentally bought this book because it showed that I did not have it I didn't realize Until later that For some reason I didn't have it and it just didn't show that I had it along with the second 3rd 4th books of the series I bought them apparently I think they came around and I still have them I don't know why it shows different now I Do have The original version which I finally decided to switch to because The narration of this particular version is ridiculous It has baby voices on certain characters where it shouldn't over emphasis on other characters that just sounds completely I don't really ridiculous I'm not Mentioned The numerous Pronunciations I know you can't expect everyone to be perfect but seems how this is apparently the second version as far as I know if not 3rd version of these books although I believe second They should have at least been given a pronunciation Sheet Because for someone like me who was practically raised on the ancient myths and fables and things like that to hear the names Butchered is very jarring and distracting That's why I gave 5 stars to the story and just 1 for the overall performance and narration because I think the trash is narration takes away from the overall performance although I have to give the story credit where credit is due I think the credit Is do I think the story itself is awesome and And it is done a great disturbance by this ridiculously horrible narration I'm sorry but 3 narrators So much better Just because it's booked Does it mean the voice I have to sound baby ridiculous

I have been a Laurel K. Hamilton fan since I was 14 or 15 in 1993 when I first read guilty pleasures. I have followed the Anita Blake series which I am totally in love with Granted. There are some books that I more fond of than others, basically because some of the later books are character centered and more fond of certain characters that I am others therefore I'm naturally inclined to like different books in the series differently. However, I have never actually read a Laurel K. Hamilton book that I absolutely could not stand. I have always liked to different degrees anything that she has written of two, including nights here and her writings for Raven loft. That being said, I'm not going alive. When I found out she was publishing another series. I totally had a WTF? What about Merry? Moment know what's funny about that is when the Merry Gentry series was first published. I remember setting my friends house having the same. WTF moment and bitching about wanting a new Anita book. I actually put off reading the fairy series for quite a while, sort of, because I was pouting about more Anita. However, when I did finally read the fairy series. I fell in love with it to. So I decided to go ahead and give this Angel series a chance because I love a Laurel K. Hamilton's work will be quite honest I'm not big on Angel fiction stories. I don't know why it's not a religious thing, they're just not something that I generally read about like you would vampires or werewolves. But because it was Laurel K publishing this book, I had to check it out based on principle. That being said, I think this book or rather series has great potential. I found the concepts to be very intriguing. And once again Laurel has a way of including information into a series that I found interesting. I think the series has great potential. Although I will say one of the things that totally ruined it for me at this point is the narrator. To me it sounded like he was a newscaster reading from a Teleprompter. I think that was part of the confusion for me also. There are quite a few points that is brought up but then dropped. So I going to assume that some of that has to do with setting up for the second novel, or at least I hope so because I see great potential in the possibility for this series. However I will say that I felt that maybe the ending was a little forced.

No, just No, I'll be quite honest, I couldn't get past 30 minutes. 30 minutes was all I could listen to this woman butcher this series. After eight books. This is ridiculous, Abby Craden was a fabulous narrator for these books. I do not know why she is not the narrator for the next three that I know of. However, you would think that if you're going to get a new narrator. At least they would familiarize themselves with the way the characters were read for the last eight books honestly in the 30 to 45 minutes. I listen to this woman Read this book. I couldn't tell who was speaking, she didn't bother to change the tone of her voice hardly at all. And as far as I'm concerned. A lot of the characters all sounded male. At least in some spots. Now I realize that realistically not every narrator's going to sound the same but if you're going to pick up a series this far in the least you could do is attempt to approximate the differences so that the listeners do not become confused. She did not at all attempt this when it come to characters like the Fae. Perry she mispronounced the names the whole attitude of most of the characters was way off. Like I said, I understand that not every narrator is going to read the same. But this far into a series you can at least familiarize yourself with some of it so that it is not as difficult for dedicated listeners. For the first time in forever because I'm usually very picky about the sort of thing I absolute refused to buy the next books in the series with credits or money, especially money. I was actually contemplating adding extra credits to my audible account so I could get the next books in the series early on audible, but I will not be doing that. I would rather find the Kindle version and have the computer or the Kindle or myself read them to me so that I can substitute in my mind. Abby Craden's version of the characters then listen to this woman continue to read them. In fact, I will be returning "Den Of Sorrows" so that I can get my credit back and put it towards one of my series where I can actually enjoy the narration. This is completely and totally awful. I'm usually quite picky about having every book in a series on audible or on Kindle or on both but at this point with this narrator know because I literally cannot force myself to listen to this woman read the series. The way she reads it. I tried this is the first time that in the middle of a series I'm just like no. It's Kindle time I actually looked ahead because I was going to get the books later in the series that are available on Kindle. The other two that are available on Kindle after Den of sorrows, and I see that this new narrator is narrating them both. I will not be getting them I would rather take the time to read them on Kindle or have the text-to-speech read to me while I'm busy because then I can excuse the computerized voice for not pronouncing certain things right and correct them in my head because whenever you use the text-to-speech function. You have to expect a certain amount of mispronunciation when it comes to fantasy fiction which is one of the reasons that I love audible. However, as far as I'm concerned. Listening to this woman read this book after the other eight books read by Abby Craden. I find her worse than listening to the text-to-speech function. Also, for the record, I must say that had she read the first eight books I probably would not own them. Because I wouldn't have been able to set through the way she reads them. I think you're doing a total disservice to the series by not finding a better suited narrator if it cannot be Abby Craden then find find someone who is willing to at least take a look at the other books previous and can better approximate the attitudes and the voice changes because right now it's just ridiculous for a switchover this far into the series.

Rafael has been one of my favorite characters for a very long time. I've always felt like we've never gotten enough interaction information about Rafael and his Rodere, especially since he was one of the very first supernaturals Anita truly interacting with on a friendly basis. Even before Richard every time somebody mentions Rafael I remember the scene between him and Anita Nikolaus basement dungeon. From the very first they had a strange accord between them. She joked about his crown and he told her she should do what they wanted. She said that's not her style was a very interesting chemistry. I was surprised that he didn't take more of a role with Anita when she started collecting men. People tend to overlook Rafael, but he always had sage advice for Anita and Richard when they had their heads up their asses. He always was somewhere in the background he protected her at the gathering of wolves. They helped each other out numerous times. He's always been one of my more like characters. I was ecstatic when they finally came together to heal Jean-Claude and Richard although I hated the fact that there "time" was sort of forced due to circumstance and I'm glad that to see in this book that they informed a kind of closeness. I personally think that part of Anita has loved Rafael for a very long time. I really truly enjoyed this book. The only negative thing I would have to say was I thought that this book seemed a little rushed and lacking the depth of some of the other stories I wish it was longer. Rafael is such a complicated character in the first looked into the rats was definitely interesting. I would never guest at their level of magic, but it does make sense because Rafael always seem to have some sort inside whenever Anita was having some metaphysical meltdown. I would definitely recommend this is a read. I just wish there was more.. And I will state plainly that I would love to see Anita the Queen in the rats. And I kinda get the impression so would Rafael. She would love them all and keep them safe as what he, as she has already done. It's a definite read. I can only hope there will be more Rafael in the future. Who knows, maybe Anita and her Marshall status can help poor Rafael with his family issues. That is so messed up he is a good man.

Okay, as you can see from the number of stars that I've chosen. Obviously I did not find this an enjoyable book. I tried, I really, really did. I was hoping that after she made it a big deal about there being such a long amount of time between the ending of the twilight Saga in this book and how much the fans wanted it that she would've tried put a little more effort into the book. Before I get started on my rant about the content of the book itself, I must first say that while the narrator may have talent for other materials. Whoever decided on this particular individual for this book. Just no, Edward Cullen is supposed to be 17 years old, not 45 . Not to mention that if you are reading fantasy fiction, especially thank the teen fantasy fiction, you should probably pick someone better able to do voices. The narrator chosen this particular work sounds like he would be more appropriate to reading Shakespearean sonnets or some such. Where I have to commend his ability to pronounce enunciate and so on. Without making me cringe like some narrators have he does not, at least for this work possess the ability to do the appropriate voice changes, especially for the feminine parts in several different spots. I had to back up in several spots I could try to confirm who was talking. Now, that's pretty much all I have to say about the audible aspect of this book. As for the work itself… Speaking as a longtime vampire fan since I was probably nine or 10 years old. I'm not going to go in to my thoughts on the fact that Stephanie Mayor has tried to turn them present in general to some sparkly snake venom thing because that's just accepted fact. When it comes twilight that I got over when I made the conscious decision to try and give the entire series ago. There are lots of versions vampires and after some I like some I don't. So that doesn't really have defining factor in my opinion. However, the one reason I thought this book might have been worth listening to was simply because it was supposed to be about Edwards point of view. And where I may not agree with the sparkly snake venom and of Stephanie Mayor's vampires. I didn't think that her overall concept is not particularly fleshed out... I always gave her lack of character detail/world building to either her inexperience as a writer or her opinion that because the book was made for tween's and teens that those things were not as important. I did think the concept of the Cullen family and the story had great potential. Which is why I originally read and watched all the movies. I thought that with the publication of midnight sun. Although I would've assumed we would've seen what became of Jacob and and the daughter I was willing to give this one a chance, hoping that her writing skills would improve and possibly fixed some issues with the first four books using Edwards point of view. Unfortunately, to me this sounds and reads like some tween's poor attempt at Fanfiction. I've actually read better twilight Fanfiction that this book 1 of the major factors being that yes we know that Edward is a tortured soul who thinks he's a monster and that his involvement with Bella is some sort of damnation in hell we get that in the first four books. We understand that even from Bella's point of view and I understand adding some of that point of view into his inner monologue of force, but instead of having the fetal of the inner monologue of a tortured vampire fighting his arches. This whole book pretty much reads like it is written by an author who has no interest in the storyline and/or if not a general hate for the vampire concept. This has nothing to do with my opinion of her snakebite venom concept were sparkly vampire issue. The amount of animosity towards the concept of vampirism in general throughout the work is just disproportionate you expected to be a tortured soul yes, but the book is literally 25 hours long with only approximately three hours worth of actual movement in the story. The rest of the time is in my opinion Edward being used to extol the evil wrongness of everything that is vampires not only with himself with just the concept of vampirism in general. Not to mention the fact that in my opinion it shows a great lack of respect for the genre that we have a four-year-old vampire who were all supposed to believe it's a true virgin even though everything according to her vampire mythology is supposed to be highly heightened and a big deal is made about Rosalie and Emmett not being able to stay away from each other due to their heightened senses and so on so forth to her so many contradictions to what little world building. She does manage in the first four novels that this particular rendition. Edwards point of view tears down what little building of her vampire society concept. She had me not to mention making the main character sound like he's suffering from dissociative identity disorder... He takes condescending attitudes because he is supposedly so bored with everything he has to reenact as a high school student is 104 years old, but then he whines like a two-year-old. At the same time and can't understand reactions totally misinterprets every conversation he has with this girl that he supposed to be somewhat so madly infatuated with I mean I get that he is a mind reader. If anything that she have given him the ability and/or perspective to. I don't know reasonably make assumptions over people's meanings. I think this is one instance she should've left the franchise alone because all she did with this particular book is highlight more of her total dislike of the vampire franchise you see it in the first four books but is not as pronounced as it is in this book I seen a lot of some boxing lately over political statements and fantasy fiction, but this is the first time I've actually read a book in the genre that pretty much showcases the author's total discontent and dislike for this particular genre. I don't understand why somebody would write a series and a genre. They obviously have no like for whatsoever and it is very disappointing because I would've thought that her writing was matured since in the last decade I had always hoped that she would write the story of Jacob and the daughter at some point, but after reading this I will not bother wasting credit if even if she does overcome her disdain for her own work and write that scenario... In fact, the more I think about it, I begin to wonder when twilight first came out it was right in the middle of the resurgence of the popularity of vampirism thinks not part to the the release of Anne Rice's Queen of the Damned. Among other TV shows and vampire movies that were popular at the time, so maybe that is why she staked this particular venue to write a novel and I don't know because you can definitely tell that it is not something that she enjoys and is showcased even more. In this attempt at appeasing the fans. 25 hours she could've tied up the entire franchise of movies and/or books in Edwards point of view, but eight hours of it was not slurring his relationship of him and Bella were maybe getting some behind-the-scenes with the Cullens just nonstop castigation at the main character and as I said before. Yes, Edward is supposed to be a tortured soul who is trying to atone for his nature and loneliness and whatever goes with that trope, but this does not read like that most time. This reads like somebody using the main character to express their own views of the particular mythical creature. In fact, I almost compared to my personal views on zombies. I don't watch some movies or read zombie books because I find the entire concept of not being able to do something about zombies completely and utterly ridiculous because they are the slow shambling that and I find the whole concept of the to be illogically boring is as shit and you can pretty much get the feeling that that's how the author feels about this particular genre. I don't know personally I get the feeling that she feels that way about the whole concept of vampires in general. Maybe she's just not happy with this particular saga. I don't know but it's all over this novel so no I would not recommend anyone waste credit or money and definitely not 25 hours on this particular book. However, I can tell you right now that it was an automatic. I would never gotten past probably chapter 6 usually I do marathon listening session. This one I found myself turning off and playing on Facebook and fallen asleep three times and having to go back several chapters because yeah no they could've done so much more with the concept of Edwards point of view and 25 hours of runtime this whole book could've been chopped down to approximately six hours and it would've actually probably saved it in my opinion.
