Mysterious, Luke & Mara small relationship window very nice but drags on a bit…..at times.
Revisado: 03-12-25
It’s great to see another Luke &Mara heavy story, I truly like this couple! The storm troopers are also very memorable and the mystery of the ship and Chris’s interaction is on par, however parts of the story just feel like one long conversation after another! I’m not sure if the book needed more action or more outside the box creatives?? Something about this one just feels was harder to get through then others? Maybe it was too many protagonists combined with the mystery and ironically the lack of a clear antagonist that dulled my senses? I definitely felt like I would be really engaged then fall asleep then boom wake up again then fall asleep! Still a good read and a good close to last novel to read prior the next Star Wars saga that introduces the Mighty Vong! Nice to see Luke and Mara evolving as a couple too!

In the distant past, a time of magic and swordplay, there lived Harold, the mightiest lich of all, a master of arcane sciences, and a challenger of gods. After reaching the pinnacle of his power and finding it surprisingly bland, Harold waged a cataclysmic war against the gods, aiming to shatter the very system that confined him.

Not what I expected but a...jaw dropping good time!
Revisado: 11-02-24
So, this is my third foray with this genre, and I went in looking for something different. Different is certainly what I got! I love the premise, I love the music, the voices, the performance is great! My only complaint is that like many first books, this feels like the setting of a stage so to speak and sometimes a chapter will drag on not because it's poorly written. It's not! Rather it's because it's trying to build the world and help the reader understand where they and the main cast are. Sometimes, I feel there are ways this could be shortened but out of the three, what I like about this story is that extra explanations make sense here! After all we aren't following a bumbling buffoon or lucky goofball around! We are following Harold! A being that bypassed millennia and topped the Godly status ages ago! A living Aeon or Eon with honey elbow joints! That is really my only complaint, the receipe at the end is awesome! I love fen and her dog, the maid, it was just fun!

A wonderful story, actors do their best, but the background noise...gets a little rough.
Revisado: 10-31-24
There is alot I love about this, Douglas Adams writes another story full of hilarity, absurdity, and scary! It's a wonderful fun story, and the actors and actresses really put their heart into it but....sometimes the background noise or music or sounds just make the audio muddled. Granted I'm not from the UK so it could be that I just haven't listened too enough radio broadcasts and am unused to the accents, but ...considering I was taught proper English, I would argue that no it is indeed a flaw in how the audio is layered in the show itself. I read a good Terry Pratchett radio adaptation as well as a Good Omens one and there were no problems, but this one got a little tricky to follow. All in all, I think reading the book itself might be a way to go, but then again some lines are delivered in this so wonderfully that I feel guilty for reviewing it lower! Anywho I hope this helps, it is quite fun!

Intrigued from Start to Finish! Let's go Monsters!
Revisado: 07-09-24
So, this is a funny story really, I started this book because I was having a rough time at work and was mad at my boss. Moseying around on Audiobook, I stumbled onto a sample of this book that begins by telling me the main character had shoved his own boss out a window! I have a dark sense of humor and thought? "Oh well, listening to this will certainly help me refrain from doing the same!" Sometimes one needs a bit of insanity via fiction to cope with the mundane realities we so take for granted in our own reality. Anywho, I eagerly dove in wanting to know the details of this rather gruesome predicament this Owen Pitt found himself in, and from Chapter 1 to the Epilogue I can honestly say, "Wow! I was NOT expecting to find an entire New Series! I may come to love!?" There are a few drawbacks, or things that might turn off or push away some readers, for example, a person who is very liberal may think that Pitt is just a southern gun-loving american thug at first glance! I beg people don't judge or knock this book based on a few details or you will miss out! The writer was careful in constructing their characters and fairly careful in constructing this world, there is rhyme and reason for the way each character behaves, and what they choose to do or say! Things come together in a well strung continuity that pulls you in further chapter by chapter! For monster fans, van-helsing fans, love-craft nuts and anyone who needs a break from 'vampire love-stories' then this is for you!! This is also for anyone new to the genre, a good forray into what I call, 'dark fantasy' just skirting the edges of sci-fi! The characters are not as predictable as they seem at first glance, the narrative itself isn't either. I genuinely got uncertain more then once on where things were going to go! There is originality woven in here, making what should & seems to be a book built on cliche's actually stand out and reveal itself to be an entirely, 'New Creature from The Deep!' The narrator fits the cast extremely well! He does an excellent job with pacing, and annunciation I enjoyed his performance so much I will be looking for other works he's done! I am also going to read the second book in this series and I bought the third! I recommend this book to Vampire Hunter D fans, old 80's Mad Max fans, Conan the Barbarian fans, and just for those who want an honest adventure with high stakes with a dash of classic romance on the side! Julie is a nice breath of air, she's a 'girl-boss' without being a girl-boss, I.E. Just a gal trying to do her best! Owen Pitt is the kind of guy a girl like me would love to have at her back during the apocalypse! The side characters are fun, I especially enjyed Tripp, Holly, & Earl! The story is solid! What the hey!? Just grab your musket & let's go shoot some Monsters y'all!!!
There be ghouls to kill!

Revisado: 05-10-24
A horror story with a threat that can make Sith look friendly!! Estizo Trace is an excellent new character thrust into the most gruesome, vile place in the Galaxy with nary a lightsaber to help herself! The Emperor pales in comparison to the madness of Darth Scabrose! What poor Estizo and her plant companion face will stay with you long into the night, in fact I do NOT recommend reading this while eating! Some scenes are so vividly gory that it can get a little rough listening too! That said one is never board with a book like this! I went beyond the Edge of my seat to feeling the need to prep a molotov!! This book is all about survival of not just the fittest but the luckiest!! It is a great addition to the Star Wars Universe and makes me wonder if this could be the origin for the threat found in other books, E.U. lore of the series!! I wish there were more adventures with Estizo! She's a great believable female protagonist, not too powerful, needs help, and not too ashamed to admit it! If you can stomach the gore then give this a ride! ...Just don't expect to get out alive!!

To many thousands of listeners world-wide, Titus Crow is the psychic sleuth - the cosmic voyager and investigator - of Brian Lumley's Cthulhu Mythos novels, from The Burrowers Beneath to Elysia. But before The Burrowers and Crow's transition, his exploits were chronicled in a series of short stories and novellas uncollected in the USA, except in limited editions.

The Art of Building Horror.
Revisado: 04-05-24
When it comes to horror, there are two things that strike me, first the build up, and second the hard metaphorical push off the edge! Lumley delivers both, his style may seem slow but not a word is not chosen without purpose, if the book feels at times uncomfortable then all the better! One should I dare say feel bothered amongst voidsent monsters! I came here after reading the first three volumes of The Necroscope series and I was not disappointed! I'm now even more curious about Titus Crow and I enjoyed this foray into his world! He reminds me of Sherlock Holmes a bit, with just a little more soul on the line quite literally and because of this, I recommend this book to any horror loving Sherlock fan or Mary Shelley fan! Personally I think Titus could have given Sherlock a good run for his money!

Illyia is a fun forward thinking protagonist with mighty striving fists! Tight rounds of action with cool down periods.
Revisado: 03-25-24
This is my second foray into the Litrpg genre, and I found it refreshing to have some variation from the series: He who slays monsters, on the one hand Illyia is a bit of a more likeable protagonist with her own goofiness, yet she quickly echoes the other series key character in her fierce desire to level up. Not that I blame her or him. The monsters are interesting, the world is mysterious yet familiar with its game like mechanics and yet questions remain. Many questions, too many, and sadly it does suffer a bit of a monotous feel after one too many fights and one too many "Dings". What I love about the book is also what I may hate. A lot of characters save Illyia feel recycled or are just missing a depth to them, part of this could be that like in the opening of a game we the reader are only getting to see a taste of this world. That's submersive quality comes too slowly or perhaps takes too long to build and stay. Understanding how the leveling system works is important but gaining levels nearly over shadows the human quality of the tale, at certain events where I should gave felt emotional I didnt. while at other times the adventure battles could be nail biting! I have hope for this saga, will try the second book but I recommend it for die hard gamer rpg fantasy fans!

This is IT! A finale to one saga, hint of a new!
Revisado: 12-13-23
Between the "Ghosts" of "Thrawn" running around, making everyone panic, Pellion's interesting humanity for an Imperialist striving for peace perspective, Luke & Mara falling in love while facing the dangers of nature, revelations in shadows and Han, Leia & Lando once more facing the narrow odds, it's a jam packed jamboree of Star Wars Legends at it's best! The first book in this duo saga is a bit long paced but has the build, this one is where we finally get the action, & the pay-off, or perhaps as Thrawn would put it? "The Visions of what could have been!" What could still be, with devoted fans? Who knows! What I love about this book is it really highlights Thrawn's genius for long term goals, and the multiple outlooks, opinions, and desires of all the different characters. This really feels like a mighty send off for the Era of our Heroes versus the Empire and opens the door to the New Saga waiting right around the corner in the Legends continuity! On that note what I love most about this book is probably Luke's point of view and to my own surprise Mara, Han, and Karrde's. They have all come along way but also been through alot of tragedy since the early days of Tattooine etc. Having read other novels prior to this one like The thrawn trilogy, Jedi Academy, & Callista era books it's touching and almost relieving to see Luke go to save the girl just as he did for Leia way back in A New Hope. To me this is the book I use to mark Luke coming full circle at last in his story to a point while leaving the door open for new things on the horizon! It's also highlights so many intriguing new dynamics and introduces so many puzzling and strangely charming to interesting new characters whether good or bad. The soundtrack is fun, the story is predictable with maybe one or two surprises I honestly was caught off guard by one or two things, it has some flaws if one is nit picky but at the end of the day: I'm just a Star Wars loving fool and this book feels like it could have been turned into a film that easily would have sat just right with the original trilogy! I'll probably listen to it again!

Follow the journey of Horace Holly and his ward, Leo Vincey, to a lost kingdom in the African interior. There they encounter a primitive race of natives and a mysterious white queen named Ayesha who reigns as the all-powerful "She", or "She-who-must-be-obeyed". In this work, Rider Haggard developed the conventions of the Lost World subgenre, which many later authors emulated.

A fascinating gothic of it's time.
Revisado: 10-28-23
Some things age well like the original Planet of the Apes from 1968. Other things sadly do not. There are elements of this story that could and would be considered pricelessly timeless. The idea of a woman living in a lost remote subterannean culture that never ages, can not die, is eerie and enchanting. The idea that SHE has wisdom lost and secrets of Kingdoms akin to that of Atlantis or Ancient Egypt adds an element of intrigue. The adventurous spirit of her would be, possible reincarnated lover harkens to the inner Dracula fan ever waiting his beloved reborn Princess in Mina. There is blood, adventure, loyal comradery from the side characters. This is what's good about the story and is why it should continue to be read.
That said, let us not ignore the sad facts. Being a twenty-thirty some woman myself of the year 2023, there are things I found slightly offensive, demeaning and out right baffling as a female reader often making me go, "Seriously dude?" Other times there were things I found frankly rascist and insulting especially to my modern mind. However THAT. IS THE POINT. One can not read this novel which was written long ago and not constantly be reminded of the era upon which it was written and by who. In many ways the things I found rascist and offensive I know for a fact would not even have been thought of as such by the author of the time. For it was a different time! This is like reading a piece of history in that it without meaning too shows us both the prejudices and the values of the authors time. There is good and bad both muddled together.
Oddly enough I felt like Ayesha in a way, except unlike Ayesha coming from the past, I instead come from the future, and can see the folly and the mystery of man's mutable, fickle and yet ever evolving heart. Would I recommend this story? Yes. However, I would ask listeners to first reconcile that this is a dated story. Written of it's time. Yet, by that very same stroke that is precisely what makes it feel the most other worldly of all.

The Empire stands at the brink of total collapse. But they have saved their most heinous plan for last. First a plot is hatched that could destroy the New Republic in a bloodbath of genocide and civil war. Then comes the shocking news that Grand Admiral Thrawn--the most cunning and ruthless warlord in history--has apparently returned from the dead to lead the Empire to a long-prophesied victory.

A lovely new take on bringing Thrawn back....
Revisado: 10-26-23
This book is all about the buildup, and the ripple effects of a great scheme. It's a wonderful spin on how in the face of new technology and old act can lead others in circles guessing! This is a nice read for Mara and Luke shippers, Han and Leia fans and for Talon Karrde fans. You get to see a little of everyone and the new challenges they face in working, managing everything from new governments to self discoveries. A great book 1.
