Historia
The term “serial killer” was first introduced in the 1970s by FBI Agent Robert Ressler. Shortly after joining the FBI in 1970, he was recruited to join the newly developed Behavioral Science Unit where he became fascinated with the psychology behind violent offenders. He wanted to better understand the motive behind a murder – what caused the person to act out in such a way, and what similarities these individuals shared. Ressler recognized that most offenders knew their victims, but there was a certain type of killer that picked their victims at random, and often killed multiple ...

Historia
More than two centuries after World War III poisoned the planet, the final bastion of humanity lives on massive airships circling the globe in search of a habitable area to call home. Aging and outdated, most of the ships plummeted back to Earth long ago. The only thing keeping the two surviving lifeboats in the sky are Hell Divers - men and women who risk their lives by skydiving to the surface to scavenge for parts the ships desperately need.

Perfect use of Conflict
Revisado: 12-16-24
Perfect use of Conflict. From internal conflict to factions to environment....wow. I can't remember a time where a story used conflict as good as Nicholas Sansbury Smith did.
the narrator was amazing. get the book.

Jerusalem and the Sinai desert, AD 55. In the turbulent aftermath of the crucifixion of Jesus, agents of the Roman Empire receive information about a pilgrim bearing an incendiary letter from a religious fanatic calling himself Paul the Apostle to insurrectionists in Corinth. What's in the letter could bring down an empire. The Romans hire a former legionary, a solitary man-at-arms named Telamon to intercept the letter and destroy the courier. But once he meets the courier, Telamon experiences an extraordinary conversion.

Master of Historical Fiction
Revisado: 03-14-21
A story that flows this smooth doesn't happen by accident. I welcome any casual historians or story form nerds to get this book. Map it out, enjoy the culture that Mr. Pressfield takes you to. Pressfield continues to push the limit and depth of historical fiction. True to the time, this book is the best work of Pressfield's career. He has really outdone himself. I look forward to his next work. Well done sir.

Historia
Gates of Fire puts you at the side of valiant Spartan warriors in 480 BC for the bloody, climactic battle at Thermopylae. There, a few hundred of Sparta’s finest sacrificed their lives to hold back the invading Persian millions. The time they bought enabled the Greeks to rally - saving, according to ancient historian Herodotus, “Western democracy and freedom from perishing in the cradle.” How did the Spartans accomplish this superhuman feat? This is what the King of Persia hopes to learn from the sole Spartan survivor.

Historia
On his last combat deployment, Lt. Cmdr. James Reece's entire team was killed in an ambush that also claimed the lives of the aircrew sent in to rescue them. But when those dearest to him are murdered on the day of his homecoming, Reece discovers that this was not an act of war by a foreign enemy but a conspiracy that runs to the highest levels of government. Now, with no family and free from the military's command structure, Reece applies the lessons that he's learned in over a decade of constant warfare toward revenge.

A great thriller.
Revisado: 10-21-20
a 3.5 star thriller, but I have to give the first book bonus star. Get the book you'll enjoy it. I'm a wanna be story editor, but for the average person this will be everything you want from a thriller.
James Reese Reese everything you need in a protaganist.
I love the story of James Carr and his Navy Seal background. Quite honestly it's the only reason I got the book. He adds a unique perspective on military operatives like no other, I do feel that he flexes and over emphasizes a few times but he gets a pass being his first book. Terminal List is a great story that meets all the conventions needed for an blue collar american protag thriller. The begining hook took a bit longer to get to than I prefer but it's worth the wait.
Carr overused "he's the kind of guy that..." one too many times. This wouldn't be an issue if the entire story was first person. Which I do feel completely removing the third person omniscient narrative would have made this story much more enticing and exciting. All in all it's a great book, and I look forward to the next one.

Great hard sci-fi read but...
Revisado: 05-30-19
This would be a great read but as an audio book Scalzi needs to improve dialogue scenes, this is more random house error as they should know a listener doesn’t want to hear a long quick dialogue where “said” is said every 3 sentences for 20 minutes.
Scalzi and Wheaton nailed it though, great idea and plot but random house editors should have caught that.
