Historia
How might premodern exegesis of Genesis inform Christian debates about creation today? Imagine a table with three people in dialogue: a young-earth creationist, an old-earth creationist, and an evolutionary creationist. Into the room walks Augustine of Hippo, one of the most significant theologians in the history of the church. In what ways will his reading of Scripture and his doctrine of creation inform, deepen, and shape the conversation?

Fantastic, sober analysis of a topic far more relevant than it may at first appear
Revisado: 04-18-23
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Dr. Ortlund does a masterful job of revivifying St. Augustine’s highly intelligent (and still highly relevant) approach to harmonizing scripture and the physical sciences. This book will very much reward your reading time.

Historia
In theology, just as in battle, some hills are worth dying on. But how do we know which ones? When should doctrine divide, and when should unity prevail? Pastor Gavin Ortlund makes the case that while all doctrines matter, some are more essential than others. He considers how and what to prioritize in doctrine and ministry, encouraging humility and grace along the way. Using four basic categories of doctrine in order of importance, this book helps new and seasoned church leaders alike wisely labor both to uphold doctrine and to preserve unity.

Ortlund’s take on this topic is incredibly useful and timely. More churches would be saved from a lot of conflict if they read this book. Very short and sweet, but packs a punch. Worth your time!

In Feminism Against Progress, Mary Harrington argues that the industrial-era faith in progress is turning against all but a tiny elite of women. Women's liberation was less the result of human moral progress than an effect of the material consequences of the Industrial Revolution.

Fascinating and extremely timely book
Revisado: 04-08-23
I came to this book after seeing a lot of Mary Harrington’s interviews on various podcasts and YouTube conversations. Anyone who is a fan of her work there will find this book to be an intellectual feast. This is a bit of a dense read, but still surprisingly accessible. I can’t recommend it enough if you’re tired of the standard culture war tropes about the war between the sexes - Harrington offers a genuine and human-centric alternative that is deeply needed in this societal moment. Highly recommended!

Historia
Growing up in suburban Pretoria, Steve Joubert dreamed of a career as a pilot. After undergoing SAAF pilot training, a freak injury put an end to his hopes of flying fighter jets. Instead he learned to fly the versatile Alouette helicopter. He had barely qualified as a chopper pilot when he was sent to the border, where he flew missions over Namibia and southern Angola to supply air cover to troops on the ground.

Historia
From Elie Wiesel, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, comes a magical audio book that introduces us to the towering figure of Rashi—Rabbi Shlomo Yitzchaki—the great biblical and Talmudic commentator of the Middle Ages. Wiesel brilliantly evokes the world of medieval European Jewry, a world of profound scholars and closed communities ravaged by outbursts of anti-Semitism and decimated by the Crusades.

Good book, but a bit short and not much depth
Revisado: 04-05-23
This is a great little read, but it’s really more of a brief intro, or even a short meditation, than a detailed biography. Worth a read as Wiesel is a great writer, but don’t expect to get much depth from this.

Historia
For many Christians, apathy can feel inescapable. They experience a lack of motivation and a growing indifference to important things, with some even struggling to care about anything at all. This listlessness can spill over into our spiritual lives, making it difficult to pray, read the Bible, or engage in our communities. Have we resigned ourselves to apathy? Do we recognize it as a sin? How can we fight against it? In Overcoming Apathy, theology professor Uche Anizor explains what apathy is and gives practical, biblical advice to break the cycle.

Fantastic Book on Christian Formation
Revisado: 03-18-23
It’s funny to admit this, but I actually bought this book many months ago, and only just got around to reading it. How’s that for apathy!
When I did read it, I wish that I had done so sooner! This is a fantastic little book that is about so much more than just fighting through the blasé feelings that sometimes overcome us in our faith walk. This book touches into real, actionable guidance on Christian formation in so many ways.
Highly recommend this for anyone looking for a rejuvenation of their faith!

This is exactly what Pauline experts Bruce W. Longenecker and Todd D. Still accomplish with Thinking Through Paul: Audio Lectures.

Historia
This fast-paced, inspirational narrative reveals how God used one man of great courage, discipline, and humility to bring countless souls to Christ. God’s accomplishments through George Whitefield are to this day virtually unparalleled. In an era when many ministers were timid and apologetic in their preaching, he preached the gospel with aggressive zeal and undaunted courage. In the wake of his fearless preaching, revival swept across the British Isles, and the Great Awakening transformed the American colonies.
