Historia
Pinion, Minnesota: a metropolis of all of 700 souls. Nothing ever happened there - until the mayor of sorts (campaign slogan: "I'll Do What I Can") and a buddy come up with a scheme to put Pinion on the map. They'd heard of a place where a floating image of the Virgin Mary had turned the whole town into a shrine, attracting thousands of pilgrims. And all those pilgrims needed food, shelter, all kinds of crazy things, right? They'd all get rich! What could go wrong? When the dead body shows up, they find out, and that's only the beginning of their troubles - and Virgil Flowers'....

Flat characterization
Revisado: 10-22-18
One of the poorer Virgil Flowers stories. Slow. That f’n flowers thing is juvenile and I have grown very tired of its usage. In this story the chicken pot pie thing is also juvenile and over used. Seems to be a book that wasn’t well thought out. I would have rated the performance 4, he usually does a good job, but the star rating system wouldn’t allow it?

Their best effort yet
Revisado: 03-10-18
This is certainly the best James has written yet, and maybe the best book I have ever read yet. This may be due to the fact that we have similar life views as we age and both friends of Bill. I appreciate the fact that he didn’t bring in current popular political bashing to prove how great he is. A true poet. His poetry is in fact enhanced by the narrator. Yet, it is there in his prose, but Will certainly enhances the experience. There are few books that are better listened to than read, but this is one of them. He works at the craft of his narration and it shows and is rewarding to the listener.
Thanks Dave and Clete, for a wonderful ride

Historia
College professor Stephen Barlow needs cash. Badly. He puts his skepticism aside and signs on to a paranormal research organization in the hopes of scoring a fat bonus. Enter Chaythe Asylum: a long-shuttered and controversial institution where patients were allegedly subjected to unethical experiments. Stephen deems the old building, closed in 1989 after a series of grisly murders, as good a place as any to explore the possibility of the supernatural, and arranges to take a tour with his students. But it turns out that the asylum is not as abandoned as it seems. There is something sinister in the building.

Really Disappointed....Beware
Revisado: 12-09-17
So I’m listening and listening for something “really creepy” because of all the reviews saying so. It never happened. Not of the Stephen King style anyway. A tad of violence, but not creepiness at the “end”, but that “cliffhanger” had less to do with literary technique that trying to sell another book.
So why say Beware? I get the feeling I have been cheated by all the creepy reviews and short introductory precursor. Not a real horror novel.
Please notice that so many of them had received a free book in return for a review. Maybe not, but I have never seen so many reviews from free books in an Audible review.
Narrator was Ok, but a little to young sounding to betaken as serious horror elder protagonist. I do however appreciate his seemingly edit free performance.
I’d really call this a Young Adult genre. Tamed down violence, tamed down language, tamed down literary technique, tamed down sentence structure, tamed down vocabulary, tamed down extended descriptions (kinda like the most stee was the scariest thing I had ever seen in my life...;rather than a description of it) well you get the idea. I wasted my time reading it assuming it would get better. It didn’t. We are so lucky for Audible’s return policy.....//

Historia
In a future so real and near it might be now, something happens when women go to sleep: They become shrouded in a cocoon-like gauze. If they are awakened, if the gauze wrapping their bodies is disturbed or violated, the women become feral and spectacularly violent; and while they sleep they go to another place.... The men of our world are abandoned, left to their increasingly primal devices. One woman, however, the mysterious Evie, is immune to the blessing or curse of the sleeping disease.

Disappointed
Revisado: 10-05-17
This is the only King “Novel” I have ever been unable to finish. How sad that such a great writer feels it necessary at this point in his life to write a political diatribe using already cliched simplistic concepts that I am already aware that he holds.
What’s the point?
No new ground is explored. No new ideas. No explanations of topics that people may not have thought of.
It just seems to be a vehicle for a childish rant.
Narration is similarly awful. All the voices seem the same. No real difference between male and female...............

Good storyline, very good narration. Totally unique concept. A little slow sometimes but very glad I stuck with it. I'd read another by this author and/or narrator.

Boring, and juvenile......
Have listened to all in this series. This just didn't keep my interest, maybe it was just my mood, but surprised that by 2/3 of the book, that I gave up.

A father and daughter try to survive the steady decline of all they know in this haunting thriller from award-winning author Ronald Malfi. First the birds disappeared. Then the insects took over. Then the madness began. They call it Wanderer's Folly - a disease of delusions, of daydreams and nightmares. A plague threatening to wipe out the human race.

Mixed feelings
Revisado: 08-30-16
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The ending was absolutely cliched and incredibly stupid. It ruined an otherwise good book that for whatever reason touched me and kept my interest. How could and author who could create the feeling in this loving relationship be so trite in the end.
Still worth reading but......
What three words best describe Tom Taylorson’s voice?
Another mixed review. Good voices and characterizations.
Sloppy edits at the end. Demonstrates the narrator's distain for the reader. If he had a sense of craft he would have re-narrated the whole chapter, instead of the intrusive edits if he weren't so lazy.

First Class Writing
Revisado: 03-17-14
What made the experience of listening to Galveston the most enjoyable?
Quality, literate writing. Interesting use of simile and metaphor, imagery, rhythmic word choice. Not quite James Lee Burke, but definitely moving towards that.
What about Michael Kramer’s performance did you like?
Fit the characters, decent female voices, main character perfect. Some less than ideal edits, but overall very good.
Any additional comments?
Not what I was expecting, more of a character study than a crime novel, but very pleased I listened.
