Historia
Amber Patterson is fed up. She's tired of being a nobody: a plain, invisible woman who blends into the background. She deserves more - a life of money and power like the one blond-haired, blue-eyed goddess Daphne Parrish takes for granted. To everyone in the exclusive town of Bishops Harbor, Connecticut, Daphne - a socialite and philanthropist - and her real-estate mogul husband, Jackson, are a couple straight out of a fairy tale. Amber's envy could eat her alive...if she didn't have a plan.

Sociopathic!
Revisado: 02-24-25
Overall, I enjoyed listening to this one. It was worth finishing. I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll just say I appreciated the way it ended. That said, the book wrapped up pretty quickly. The thing that stood out the most is how difficult it was to listen to what Daphne endured. Gut wrenching at times and in one instance I gasped out loud. It's hard to imagine people realistically going through that type of abuse, but of course, it happens, and that makes it all the more important to listen to these stories, even if this one was fictional. Women deserve to be respected and cherished, and Jackson got what was coming to him. Now I just feel bad for his son.

Historia
In a faraway kingdom, in a long-ago land...a young girl lived happily in Moscow with her family: a sister, a father, and an eccentric mother who liked to tell fairy tales and collect porcelain dolls. One summer night, everything changed, and all that remained of that family were the girl and her mother. Now, a decade later and studying at Oxford University, Rosie has an English name, a loving fiancé, and a promising future, but all she wants is to understand—and bury—the past. After her mother dies, Rosie returns to Russia, armed only with her mother’s folklore—and a key.

Stick with it
Revisado: 05-24-24
This one started off a little slow for my liking, but I'm glad I hung in there. I have never been particularly interested in the history of the Russian revolution(s), but this story had me looking things up and reading more into the background and what the characters may have been experiencing. Worth the read!

Cute in the end
Revisado: 05-07-24
I'm glad I finished this one, but there were definitely some slower parts to it. Not a "can't put down" sort of read. I enjoyed the performance and small twist at the end!

It got better...
Revisado: 07-19-23
I will admit, I was pretty close to giving up on this one about halfway through. I felt that the female narrator's performance was a little "sing-songy" and the story was too predictable and boring. I stuck it out and, thankfully, it got better. The second half was cute and I enjoyed the ending. I'm glad I kept listening.

Harriet and Wyn have been the perfect couple since they met in college—they go together like salt and pepper, honey and tea, lobster and rolls. Except, now—for reasons they’re still not discussing—they don’t. They broke up five months ago. And still haven’t told their best friends.

Can't go wrong
Revisado: 06-22-23
This is not my favorite of Emily Henry's books, but you can't go wrong with her love-laced plotlines. This one is not quite as "spicy" (read: not as much sex), and though I don't read these for the suspense, I wish there was a little more surprise waiting at the end of the book. It's predictable, but again, you will still enjoy it if you have liked her other books. Also, Julia is the best narrator, my favorite by far.

Historia
In her mesmerizing fourth work of fiction, Sue Monk Kidd takes an audacious approach to history and brings her acclaimed narrative gifts to imagine the story of a young woman named Ana. Raised in a wealthy family with ties to the ruler of Galilee, she is rebellious and ambitious, with a brilliant mind and a daring spirit. She engages in furtive scholarly pursuits and writes narratives about neglected and silenced women. Ana is expected to marry an older widower, a prospect that horrifies her. An encounter with 18-year-old Jesus changes everything.

Heavy, but worth the read
Revisado: 06-14-23
This book was well worth the read - so imaginative. Though I understand controversy surrounding it, if you can put aside religious bias and appreciate this story for what it is - a story - you won't regret it.

Heavy, but worth it
Revisado: 01-04-23
I am a long time fan of Holocaust-focused novels, both fiction and non. Though a sobering, tragic time period, the strength of survivors never ceases to fascinate me, and each story should be held sacred. This book is, in my opinion, among the best for it's vivid retelling of the truthful struggles Jewish people endured in Europe in the 30's and 40's. I was pulled into this family's narrative and struck by their resilience. I had to take breaks due to the weight of the content, but there were definitely times I just couldn't bring myself to press pause. A great performance and a great story. I'm so glad Ms. Hunter shared her family history with us.

Historia
Kristen Petersen doesn't do drama, will fight to the death for her friends, and has no room in her life for guys who just don't get her. She's also keeping a big secret: facing a medically necessary procedure that will make it impossible for her to have children. Planning her best friend's wedding is bittersweet for Kristen - especially when she meets the best man, Josh Copeland. He's funny, sexy, never offended by her mile-wide streak of sarcasm, and always one chicken enchilada ahead of her hangry. Even her dog, Stuntman Mike, adores him. The only catch: Josh wants a big family.

I wish I had read the paper version
Revisado: 09-02-22
Though I don't feel the narration was completely botched, I do agree with other reviews that Erin's narration of Kristin misses the mark for most of the book. I think I would've enjoyed this story a lot more if I had read a physical copy and could have imagined Kristin's voice and intonation in my own head. Good overall, and the storyline gets a lot better, and less predictable, about halfway through.
