#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER ∙ A couple who broke up months ago pretend to still be together for their annual weeklong vacation with their best friends in this glittering and wise novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Emily Henry.
“The beach-read master hooks us again."—People
Harriet and Wyn have been the perfect couple since they met in college—they go together like salt and pepper, honey and tea, lobster and rolls. Except, now—for reasons they’re still not discussing—they don’t.
They broke up five months ago. And still haven’t told their best friends.
Which is how they find themselves sharing a bedroom at the Maine cottage that has been their friend group’s yearly getaway for the last decade. Their annual respite from the world, where for one vibrant, blissful week they leave behind their daily lives; have copious amounts of cheese, wine, and seafood; and soak up the salty coastal air with the people who understand them most.
Only this year, Harriet and Wyn are lying through their teeth while trying not to notice how desperately they still want each other. Because the cottage is for sale and this is the last week they’ll all have together in this place. They can’t stand to break their friends’ hearts, and so they’ll play their parts. Harriet will be the driven surgical resident who never starts a fight, and Wyn will be the laid-back charmer who never lets the cracks show. It’s a flawless plan (if you look at it from a great distance and through a pair of sunscreen-smeared sunglasses). After years of being in love, how hard can it be to fake it for one week…in front of those who know you best?

Henry operates at the top of her—and her readers’—intelligence, telling sophisticated, heartfelt stories that are conscious of the romantic comedy conventions without being overly meta about them . . . Julia Whelan is the voice of Emily Henry's stories

If you’re looking for a book with quality narration, and characters that don’t have major problems to confront, this is definitely an easy listening (ironically, beach read I would say).
Henry is funny, quick, and she tried a different pace for writing this one. She tried to put the premise of the plot in flashbacks and present, which slowed the pace a bit but also developed her story deeply.
This one definitely takes some patience to let the story tell. The sexual tension is not as drawing as some of her other novels, but still she is so good at making the tension and scenes meaningful and emotional, not purely to exploit the reader.
I loved the topic of mental health pulled into the plot as an underlying theme, but it could have been more developed throughout.
Coming out of a book about writers block (Beach Read, probably my favorite), this is definitely Henry exploring new and deeper plots, and though it wasn’t a favorite it was very enjoyable; I did feel like Wyn and Harriet could have their HEA given a bit more time at the end.
Happy Places is easy listening

Listening but it’s hard with the girls voice narrating. She sounds like an art museum curator who never laughs. It doesn’t match the story. I love this story though… just not the right person to narrate.

Angst and pining are the most prevalent emotions this book gives off, so if you're in the mood for that type of plot with some summer vibes and fluff throw in then this is the book for you!
A summer read full of angst

Julia Whelan smashes as the narrator, again. Her voice is perfect for a north eastern character.
The story is sweet, sad, and frustrating. The life of Wynn and Harriet are so relatable.
Friendships that fizzle as each persons lives grows into their own only to come back in full force.
I cried, laughed, and grunted in disbelief.
Do yourself a favor and buy this.
Warmed me from the inside out
