Curtis Armstrong had emotional ties to the material which added to the book. Having seen a lot of these movies in theaters it was a trip down memory lane.

I received a free copy of this book to review it. I really enjoyed the fun of the characters using the spell spell. There were a few clunky spots along the way and I felt the later characters could have used a bit more fleshing out. Overall it’s an enjoyable read and I’ll be adding the next book to my TBR.

Amazing start to a series
Revisado: 06-06-21
KJ Reichert is a master craftsman. His writing is really polished. I’ll often give a good rating despite there being some bumbling points in an otherwise good story, but, in Dreams of Consciousness I got the feeling Reichert sat with every sentence teasing it to perfection.
This is written more as an installment or episode than a complete short story. I received a free code to provide an honest review and I will be seeking out more of this series for sure.
Tiana Milne-Wilson does a great job enhancing the written text and creating dramatic tension and emphasis. I’ll look for more of her work too.

Historia
The man they took prisoner was not the Jonathan Tibbs they remembered. He said that time was running out. That the world faced an enemy it could not defeat. He said everything depended on whether or not they could make a leap of faith. Then, he asked them for five nuclear warheads. The Never Army is the final installment in The Chronicles of Jonathan Tibbs - a mind-bending, genre-crossing, multiple award-winning, action-adventure trilogy.

Worth the wait.
Revisado: 05-29-21
Steven Barnett delivers another great performance. With a good deal more characters added he was up to the challenge of distinguishing voices.
The book is the best in the series. Jonathan really came into his own as the leader of the Never Army. The geek trivia was as fresh and fun and the biblical references were still philosophical and not overbearing. I enjoy that this series can be enjoyed in a more light hearted fashion, as I read it with my son through middle school and now HS, but, Hodges brings a philosophical depth that explores the meaning of family, friendship, honor, forgiveness, and humility.
What would happen if you were a hero and no one ever knew? T. Ellery Hodges takes this question and weaves it into a wonderful tale I will be recommending for the rest of my life.

Fairy tale meets paranormal romance
Revisado: 04-21-21
This started as pure fairytale but morphed into a paranormal romance. The setting was lavishly described and a perfect mysterious venue. The narrator’s French pronunciation added to the tale. I received this audiobook for free and I’m glad to be able to give it a good review regardless. I will look for more from the author and also from Krys Janae, her narration was delightful.

Historia
This is the way the world ends, for the last time. The season of endings grows darker, as civilization fades into the long cold night. Essun - once Damaya, once Syenite, now avenger - has found shelter, but not her daughter. Instead there is Alabaster Tenring, destroyer of the world, with a request. But if Essun does what he asks, it would seal the fate of the Stillness forever. Far away, her daughter Nassun is growing in power - and her choices will break the world.

Extraordinary writing talent
Revisado: 01-31-21
I read the first book 18 months ago during the worst time in my life. The book was a classic and a must read for any sci-fi/fantasy fan. But I couldn’t bear reading the second book until I was well past my own devastation... or I was afraid to read something so evocative.
This book is even better than the first. The threads Jemisin weaves through this tapestry of a novel are glimmering gossamer lures that compel the reader to listen. Robin Miles is an asset to the author. She breathes life into every character.
The book itself is in some ways as sorrowful as the first, but, the complexity of the relationship between the two main characters leaves a window propped open a bit for hope. I’m not going to wait much longer than a day to start the final book.

Historia
Composed toward the end of the first millennium, Beowulf is the elegiac narrative of the adventures of Beowulf, a Scandinavian hero who saves the Danes from the seemingly invincible monster Grendel and, later, from Grendel's mother. He then returns to his own country and dies in old age in a vivid fight against a dragon. The poem is about encountering the monstrous, defeating it, and then having to live on in the exhausted aftermath.

Our lives are saturated by color. We live in a world of colors, and color marks our psychological and social existence. But for all color's ubiquity, we don't know much about it. Authors David Scott Kastan and Stephen Farthing offer a fresh and imaginative exploration of one of the most intriguing and least-understood aspects of everyday experience.

A difficult to review book
Revisado: 01-04-21
I do not read abridged books, but, if you ever see an abridged version I suggest trying that one. I’m undaunted by long books, but, this book would have benefited by some slash and burn editing.
The first part of the book was interesting and drew me into the story. The characters were a bit monochromatic and caricaturistic. The exploration of what humanity would do in face of impending doom was intriguing and had the potential leading to a much broader world building immersion.
The second part started out great, got better, then imploded in a cascade of what the heck was the writer thinking.
Having come some 24 hours into the book and watched the only character that had depth and was truly well written do something mind bogglingly uncharacteristic and idiotic, I thought about quitting. I’m not one that is compelled to finish a book, but 24 HOURS...
The third part jumps thousands of years in the future. Will Damon does and excellent job reading. Again there are many characters that are flat and pigeonholed, but, there are some truly interesting well written characters leading to a decent ensemble narrative. Definitely a set up for a sequel. The third part is the weakest by far.
Two stand out cringeworthy aspects. To much discussion of sex. These were not romantic love scenes or graphic depictions, it’s more along the lines of mechanics and the politics of sex. Who sleeps with who or wants to and why, plus a lot of awkward looks and passionless coupling. All of this could have been edited out with no damage to the tale.
And a nod to Doctor Who is ok I guess in hard sci-fi but, forcing the science to create Doctor Who is a little much.
As hard science fiction Seveneves falls short and disappoints. As social commentary it also falls short. It’s a chaotic mess of too many tales that don’t quite mesh together in a unified narrative.
