Horrible, Horrible narration!
Revisado: 04-22-25
I can’t believe an author would allow her work to be butchered so badly by the AI narration. Was there no editor or production manager? Did no one listen to this before it was thrust on us? Absolutely horrible!

This book was a hair raiser, start to finish. Every time you think things are finally going to be ok, there is another twist….
This one also had a bunch of loose ends. I suppose that adds to the mystery, but I prefer a bit more closure to the other characters’ storylines.

Deep down here by the dark water lived old Gollum, a small slimy creature. I don’t know where he came from, nor who or what he was. He was Gollum—as dark as darkness, except for two big round pale eyes in his thin face. He had a little boat, and he rowed about quite quietly on the lake; for lake it was, wide and deep and deadly cold.

Revisado: 10-16-24
Andy did a pretty good job, however, I still prefer the original recording. He overdid Gollum a bit, in my opinion, even though it was his character in the movies, I had a hard time understanding what he was saying - it was a bit thick...

Disappointed…Again
Revisado: 10-15-24
Ok, first, this is Chronicles of Nick, so where’s Nick? This should have been a novella or titled differently. It also does not move the story progression along. At. All.
Second, OMG the characters’ voices! Again! Horrible! Come on Holter, do your homework…. You’ve done these voices for what? 20+ years now? Appolomy sounds like the wicked witch of the west; Azura sounds like a growling beast. At the end, Jared, 13,000 years later, still sounds like a child.
This is beyond frustrating…

Historia
My name is Nick Gautier, and I was born to end the world. Or so I thought. For years, I believed my destiny was beyond my control. But the Fates love to play with folks, and I seem to be their favorite punchline. Just when my crew and I thought we were done with the apocalypse, the Fates dragged back for another round. Now, we have to stop the powers-that-be and my future son or the ones I love and cherish will become memories.

Not sure where to start…
Revisado: 10-12-24
OMG- what happened to Holter Graham’s voice? I can’t even listen to the shrieking, ear piercing rendition of Simi! I used to love Holter Graham, and I know it’s been awhile between books, but doesn’t he listen to his past work? Or practice? And the person in charge of recording- how can you let this pass? It’s cringe worthy.
As for the story, we’re now finally, after what, 30 books, getting some explanations, although it’s being dragged out, probably because the author is trying to recoup some of her divorce losses. She knows she has us all hooked like a bunch of sheep who will keep following her, just so we can finally have some closure. Looks like we have about another five years and 10 books before we finally get there…🤷♀️ But somebody better do something about Simi’s voice.

After all this time, if the author was going to delve back into this world, I expected better. This story was boring, depressing and I'm not really sure what the point was.

Outdated…
Revisado: 09-08-22
This book held no answers for me. Glad I didn’t have to pay $100.00 per hour to this woman just to have her tell me to talk to dolls. Her narration left something to be desired. Having written the book, you’d think she would be familiar with the contents, but there were so many gaps and pauses, it was a bit disconcerting. All in all, I didn’t find anything in this book that I didn’t already know.

first time I've preferred the movie over the book
Revisado: 05-14-22
I never realized the movie was based on a book series, but after seeing "saving Mr. Banks", I of course had to read them. I think Disney pulled all the best scenarios out of the series for the movie. I can't really understand how the books are so well loved. In the books Mary Poppins is vain, conceited and borderline abusive. The author steals from nursery rhymes and fairy tales. The narrator of the first two books had an annoyingly screechy voice which grated on my ears.

We waited 7 years for this?..
Revisado: 11-29-21
After the ridiculously long wait, I expected better than this…. The storyline was lukewarm at best. The narration was pretty good, considering the 7 year gap, but, how hard is it to listen to what you’ve already done so you can make sure it matches this time around? Several characters were not the same in the beginning….Brianna, Mandy, Lord John, etc., but started to sound a little bit more like the previous books once she got further in. And now, after how many books, everyone is suddenly pronouncing Germain’s name the French way, adding to the feeling of incongruity.
This book just didn’t feel the same as the others…. It felt choppy and disjointed. Scenarios were introduced, then dropped or forgotten, which didn’t make a lot of sense. And time after time, Diana has blamed the slow progress of the book on her “historical research”, but there really wasn’t that much reference to historical events. I think she, like George RR Martin before her, was just too caught up in the tv show to bother with the book.
And the mistakes…..this always bugs me…how can an author not remember her own characters? Let me help you Diana…. Ian is “Wolf’s brother”, not “ He who walks with wolves” 🙄, and the last time Claire saw Joseph (Ulysses) was not at River Run, but at her own house when he accompanied Jocasta and Duncan on their way through to Canada….
Lots of loose ends, which is to be expected, since we all know there is one more book coming, however, are Davina Porter and I going to live long enough to be able to read it? I think the fan base is going to fall off dramatically if we’re forced to wait another 7 years for the conclusion. After reading this installment, it’s probably not even worth it. I mean, does anybody even care anymore if we get the last Game of Thrones book?
