Historia
One June day when Mia Jacob can no longer see a way to survive, the power of words saves her. The Scarlet Letter was written almost two hundred years earlier, but it seems to tell the story of Mia’s mother, Ivy, and their life inside the Community—an oppressive cult in western Massachusetts where contact with the outside world is forbidden. But how could this be? How could Nathaniel Hawthorne have so perfectly captured the pain and loss that Mia carries inside her?

Not what I expected, but listened anyhow. Definitely not my genre, more along the lines of a sappy harlequin romance.

Historia
Fred Daniels, a Black man, is picked up by the police after a brutal double murder and tortured until he confesses to a crime he did not commit. After signing a confession, he escapes from custody and flees into the city’s sewer system. This is the devastating premise of this scorching novel, a never-before-seen masterpiece by Richard Wright. Written at the height of his creative powers, it would see publication in Wright's lifetime only in drastically condensed and truncated form, and ultimately be included in the posthumous short story collection Eight Men.

Not worth it
Revisado: 07-12-21
This book could have been 1/3 shorter if all the repetitive phrases were taken out. Too easy to figure out the conclusion. Wouldn’t have listened all the way through but kept hoping for a twist or a surprise.

Historia
The terror begins in a suburban café with seven people brutally murdered by an axe-wielding maniac. The killer is left dead at the scene and that should have been the end of a rare tragedy. But within days, in the very same city, more mass killings occur. Ten eldercare facility residents die in an arson-lit blaze. Then a mother attending a family gathering embarks on a terrifying gun rampage. All the killers are now dead, leaving behind unanswerable questions.

Susan May does it again!
Revisado: 08-19-19
This is my third book by this author, and it kept me up way past my bedtime! If you are in to thrillers with a twist, I highly recommend this book. The scariest thing about it is that it is so plausible, I can imagine it happening. Looking forward to my next "listen" by Susan May!

Another great listen!
Revisado: 07-21-19
After finishing “Best Seller” I went looking for another of Susan May’s books to listen to, and found “The Troubles Keeper”. I was intrigued by the idea of someone who could, with a touch, whisk away a person’s troubles. But that is just the beginning of what transpired in this thriller of good vs evil. Until the end, I wasn’t sure which way the scales would tip!!!
