This dramatic sequel to Jeff Shaara's best selling Rise to Rebellion continues his chronicle of the key characters of the American Revolution and animates some of the most compelling scenes in America's history: Washington's harrowing winter at Valley Forge, Benedict Arnold's tragic downfall, and the fiercely-fought battles at Trenton, Brandywine Creek, and Yorktown.

An excellent story
Revisado: 02-29-24
I enjoyed the book very much. The story held my attention, created a picture of events, and had interesting character development. My only complain is there were several places where the recording repeated; more than a few times. I think better editing or oversight is needed.

Historia
In 2008, nine mountaineers failed to return from a winter backpacking trip in the New Mexico mountains. At their final campsite, searchers found a bizarre scene: something had appeared at the door of their tent so terrifying that it impelled them to slash their way out and flee barefoot to certain death in a blizzard. Despite a diligent search, only six bodies were found, two violently crushed and inexplicably missing their eyes. The case, given the code name “Dead Mountain” by the FBI, was never solved. Now, two more bodies from the lost expedition are unexpectedly discovered in a cave.

Another Preston-Child winner
Revisado: 09-17-23
This is a terrific book. It falls into the “can’t put it down” category. I would like a little more Nora Kelly but still the book kept the reader intrigued to the end. My only complaint is the narrator mispronouncing some words. A very good read.

Excellent book
Revisado: 06-03-23
The performance of this book is amazing and Preston-Child have out done themselves. In reading all of their books, I somehow missed this one and the story starter of Nora and Smithback is so well written and fascinating. The descriptions of the areas in the book makes the reader/listener feel like being right in the area. Bravo!

Very interesting insight
Revisado: 11-18-22
This book was a great insight into the history of Germany before the American involvement in WW II. Tom Weiner gave an excellent reading and emphasized the author’s writing when necessary. I highly recommend this book.

Historia
The story of how The Godfather was made is as dramatic, operatic, and entertaining as the film itself. Over the years, many versions of various aspects of the movie’s fiery creation have been told - sometimes conflicting, but always compelling. Mark Seal sifts through the evidence, has extensive new conversations with director Francis Ford Coppola and several heretofore silent sources, and complements them with colorful interviews with key players including actors Al Pacino, James Caan, Talia Shire, and others.

Revisado: 09-25-22
As a fan of The Godfather, I found this book fascinating. I watched “The Offer” so it seemed only natural to follow up with this book. Phil Thron gives a great performance. He reads as if he was there through the entire production. I recommend this book to anyone who has a love for movie making and background.

Exodus is an international publishing phenomenon - the towering novel of the 20th century's most dramatic geopolitical event. Leon Uris magnificently portrays the birth of a new nation in the midst of enemies - the beginning of an earthshaking struggle for power. Here is the tale that swept the world with its fury: the story of an American nurse, an Israeli freedom fighter caught up in a glorious, heartbreaking, triumphant era. Here is Exodus - one of the great best-selling novels of all time.

Revisado: 10-05-21
I read this book many years ago as a young woman but I don’t think I appreciate it as much as I have now. Paul Michael gives a flawless performance. I highly recommend this book. The history behind the story gives great insight into Israel’s constant struggle even in today’s world.

For Vito Corleone, nothing is more important than his family's future. While his youngest children, Michael, Fredo, and Connie, are in school, unaware of their father's true occupation, and his adopted son Tom Hagen is a college student, he worries most about Sonny, his eldest child. Vito pushes Sonny to be a businessman, but Sonny - 17 years old, impatient, and reckless - wants something else: To follow in his father's footsteps and become a part of the real family business.

I loved the story. The back story is so vivid and gives a complete picture of the Corleone Family. Bobby Cannavale was superb. As he read and the voices changed per character, I was truly listening to Vito, Sonny and the others as they were in the film. BRAVO!

The story and performance superb!
Revisado: 02-18-21
The story and performance was fantastic but the audio book itself left much to be desired. There were at least six different places were sentences or several were repeated. At first, I thought it I had accidentally hit the back button. Then, I was across the room when it happened again or I was driving. Needless to say, this was annoying and bothersome. I believe a bit of quality control is needed.

Historia
A mummified corpse, over half a century old, is found in the cellar of an abandoned building in a remote New Mexico ghost town. Corrie Swanson is assigned what seems to her a throwaway case: to ID the body and determine cause of death. She brings archaeologist Nora Kelly to excavate the body and lend her expertise to the investigation, and together they uncover something unexpected and shocking: the deceased apparently died in agony, in a fetal position, skin coming off in sheets, with a rictus of horror frozen on his face. Hidden on the corpse lies a 16th-century Spanish gold cross.

Eagerly awaited, did not disappoint
Revisado: 01-22-21
I enjoyed the book very much. The story was well thought out, the characters described to make them come to life and the locale again proved to be a good choice. I like the Cori Swanson character but I would have preferred if the book was more Nora Kelly. I am hoping that with the ending, Nora is headed to bigger things (I do not want to create a spoiler). As to the narrator, Cynthia Farrell, I was fine until my favorite character (spoiler alert), Pendergast, shows up with an English accent. Is the narrator not aware he is from the South? I was very disappointed she could not add a Southern draw to him. He is a quintessential character and deserving of a correct intro to the book. Thank you Preston and Child for another addition to my library.

Historia
Greg Donahue’s The Minuteman, tells the story of one of Newark’s native sons; ex-prizefighter and longtime Zwillman enforcer Sidney Abramowitz, a.k.a. Nat Arno, who took over leadership of the Minutemen in 1934 and made it his personal business to put an end to what he saw as the Bund’s “anti-American” activities. For six years, Arno and his crew of vigilantes battled Newark’s Nazis at every turn. The Minuteman is a story of the ethics of violence in the face of fascism; a forgotten legacy that is as relevant now as it was nearly a hundred years ago.

What is not in history books.
Revisado: 01-02-21
I liked this short book because it gave insight to the rise of antisemitism and how much Germany influenced some of the people in this country long before the UnitedStates entered WW II. There are comparisons which are happening in this country today that are frightening. When one reads or listens to this book, it is as if things have not changed or people have not anything from history. And again, when those who are put upon strike back, they are criticized for their actions. For a short book it is very powerful ... a good read.
