Acerca de esta escucha

From the #1 New York Times bestselling duo, renowned archaeologist Nora Kelly and FBI Agent Corrie Swanson investigate a mystery so enigmatic it may have no solution.

In 2008, nine mountaineers failed to return from a winter backpacking trip in the New Mexico mountains. At their final campsite, searchers found a bizarre scene: something had appeared at the door of their tent so terrifying that it impelled them to slash their way out and flee barefoot to certain death in a blizzard. Despite a diligent search, only six bodies were found, two violently crushed and inexplicably missing their eyes. The case, given the code name “Dead Mountain” by the FBI, was never solved.

Now, two more bodies from the lost expedition are unexpectedly discovered in a cave, one a grisly suicide. Young FBI Agent Corrie Swanson teams up with archaeologist Nora Kelly to investigate what really happened on that fateful trip fifteen years ago—and to find the ninth victim. But their search awakens a long-slumbering evil, which pursues Corrie and Nora with a vengeance, determined to prevent the final missing corpse from ever coming to light.

Worst Preston and Child story, awful narration.

This was such a waste of time, listening to this boring, uneventful story. I only kept listening, thinking that it would become a story worthy of listening. It never did. The narrator was so over the top breathy and dramatic which made the male characters narrations terrible and silly. There was so much cussing in the book and was so out of place for the characters. Over and over, God’s name was used in vain and by all the characters, not just one or two, but for all and for any reason, not as their character but rather as the authors way of needing to cuss throughout the book. . I have liked all the Nora Kelly books up to this one. It was not exciting at all and the story was just a knock off of a real disaster that everyone knows about that occurred in Europe many decades ago. This was a really strange book for Preston and Child. I am going to ask for my credit back for this book. I was looking forward to a fun read by Preston and Child, waiting for it to come out and I am so disappointed.

Atrocious narrator - good story

I'm a long-time fan of Preston and Child, and this story did not disappoint. However, I'm at a loss to understand why this narrator was hired. She is dreadful. Her attempts at Southwestern accents are cringeworthy. Her over- all narration is amateurish in phrasing and pronunciation. I recommend that you get the Kindle edition instead. If I could return this, I would.

Thrilling Story, Same Awful Narration

This was another great book from the masters Preston and Child. Taking inspiration from the Dyatlov Pass incident, they created a similar case in the mountains of New Mexico. This was a thrilling read with many twists and turns and I love how well they are able to make things realistic, true to life and fit the story. They have bureaucrats down to perfection, and various factions that surround the case as well. Corrie Swanson is assigned a new mentor and given a seemingly dull case to investigate after a couple of frat boys stumble upon a Native American burial ground, desecrate it and discover new bodies. The new bodies are victims of the renowned Dead Mountain case and the FBI reopens it. Various theories, leads and dead ends are encountered. Nora Kelly and her brother are drawn into the case and Skip runs into trouble with local law enforcement. The events of the case and solution are interesting. I also appreciated how they don't use simple crutches to get their heroes out of scrapes. Nora has found her love, and it was nice to see Corrie finally find romance with her handsome sheriff. Great story, same monotonous narrator. I wish the producers and publisher would actually listen to readers and find someone new for the Nora Kelly series.

As always a great read!

Love these novels, and will always preorder them. The story and narration are the tops, and progress throughout the novels.

Narration not great

I will be buying this series and the Pendergast series from used books until they pay for a better narration, I think loyal audible customers deserve it.

Nice next chapter in the Nora Kelly series

Not as much action as usual but an interesting mystery to solve. The whole thing with Skip was filler in my opinion.

Great Story

Better than the last one. I wish Corrie would dig up more confidence and grit like she had when we first met her in Kansas.

Conspiracy

Another winner from these authors and a brilliant adaptation from an original tale. Love these characters. The plot here was central but the subplots live in reality. Conspiracies abound today in society and Indian rights are certainly still trampled on.

Highly recommend! I love the pairing of Corrine Swanson and Dr. Nora Kelly in this page turner!
