Interesting Premise
Revisado: 06-01-24
While I finished this audiobook, I found it a bit of a slog in places. The story was interesting. I think the writing was a bit simplistic.
The narration drove me crazy. I wondered if the reader did theater in the past and was told to shout from the stage? Every character sounded loud, brash and robotic with a lilt at the end. I might have liked it better overall if the voice talent were more subtle and nuanced.

Good Ride. Many Tropes
Revisado: 04-03-24
Overall, I’d liked this listen. The action kept moving and the twists propelled me to the next parts of the book. some plot points kept me on the edge of my seat. The writing became a bit thin towards the end with all of the rhapsodizing about perfectionism, love, and the way babies smell freshly washed. I found myself questioning the lead protagonists’ sleuthing skills– – especially when a child’s life was on the line. Both adult lead female protagonists just seemed really the same towards the end. Maybe that was the point. I wish some of the supporting characters had been more fully formed. For instance, it would’ve been interesting to have some insight into the “druggie” character rather than just have him be a far-off evil cutout. The ending was clever, but I wasn’t completely satisfied with it. I would recommend this book as a fast, entertaining read. Just be prepared for some gaps.

Historia
Twenty-five years in the ER could become a résumé for despair, but for best-selling author Dr. Robert D. Lesslie, it's a foundation for inspiring stories of everyday angels - friends, nurses, doctors, patients, and even strangers who offer love, help, and support in the midst of trouble. The ER is a difficult and challenging place to be. Yet the same pressures and stresses that make this place so challenging also provide an opportunity to experience some of life's greatest wonders and mysteries.

Inspiration on the go
Revisado: 02-17-23
I loved listening to this in the car. The stories painted heartfelt pictures of patient and medical staff interactions. I enjoyed the faith filled moments. I do have to say I was surprised that the narrator was a hired reader. I thought perhaps it was Dr. Lesslie himself. I found the reading a little bit too over enunciated and somewhat stilted. It wasn’t bad, it just really wasn’t natural. For example, every time there was an abbreviation such as “ER” the narrator read the letters so slowly and clearly it was as if he thought they might be misconstrued—like a term from a foreign language. Some of the poignant and moving moments were also read without as much emotional nuance as expected. And so, I would say an enjoyable text, but marred a bit by a less than practiced reader.

Sometimes you meet people who are out of this world, so you make them a part of yours. A one-night stand born from vengeance in a foreign land. An explosive chemistry neither of us could deny. We signed a contract on the back of a Boar’s Head Pub napkin that said if we ever met again, we would drop everything and be together. Eight years and thousands of miles later, he’s here. In New York. And he’s America’s music obsession.

Want to rate parts of it higher
Revisado: 12-03-19
I mostly liked this book. The author carefully constructed a decent plot. The characters kept my interest. I loved the creativity of speaking inanimate objects and voices from Beyond. I thought the sex scenes were given too much importance and were too graphic. Rory`s ending was saccharine. The narration killed me though: the lead actor was a great narrator for Aurora's voice. However, when she tried to do a male Irish accent it was abysmal! Take a dialect class! Please?

Historia
Late Victorian London. When James Miller, the most respectable of Scottish businessmen, is pulled, dead, from the Thames, his daughter is drawn into an investigation which reveals a whole world of secrets and corruption. Alongside local detective Culley, Catriona’s search for her father’s killer leads all the way to the tragic truth behind the ghostly legend of The Darkwater Bride and the power of her deadly kiss. The Darkwater Bride combines the genres of the Victorian mystery thriller with the equally classic Victorian mode of the ghostly tale.

Melodramatic with an uneven script
Revisado: 05-20-19
Actors tried, but the script was thin. "What?" and "Who?" were way overused. Voices grating.
