Historia
Do you dare step through the red door? Spencer Grant had no idea what drew him to the bar with the red door. He thought he would just sit down, have a slow beer or two, and talk to a stranger. He couldn’t know that it would lead to a narrow escape from a bungalow targeted by a SWAT team. Or that it would leave him a wanted man. But now Spencer is on the run from mysterious and ruthless men. He is in love with a woman he knows next to nothing about. And he is hiding from a past he can’t fully remember.

Almost Great
Revisado: 01-05-23
This was my second time through, and after all these years, much of the story hits better now. That said, it still drags too much early for my taste. It does have a satisfying ending that leaves you wanting a series to kick off.

Are they in hiding after detecting surveillance? Or have they turned and become double agents? It’s Jenkins’s duty to find out, but he’s been added to a Russian kill list. It will require all of Jenkins’s knowledge of spycraft—and an array of disguises—to return to the country undetected.

Fun spy story for our time
Revisado: 04-29-22
I feel like the main character makes mistakes that a well experienced operative that has survived hard situations wouldn't make but the story is engaging and I'd be back for another.

Historia
The frontiersmen were a remarkable breed of men. They were often rough and illiterate, sometimes brutal and vicious, often seeking an escape in the wilderness of mid-America from crimes committed back east. In the beautiful but deadly country which would one day come to be known as West Virginia, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois, more often than not they left their bones to bleach beside forest paths or on the banks of the Ohio River.

No one could understand why Colin and Roy were best friends. Colin was so shy; Roy was so popular. Colin was fascinated by Roy - and Roy was fascinated by death. Then one day, Roy asked his timid friend: “You ever killed anything?” From that moment on, the two were bound together in a game too terrifying to imagine - and too irresistible to stop.

Koontz Creepy
Revisado: 11-10-21
Koontz can write a variety of compelling stories and has hit the nail on the head with this a touch too realistic creepy story of childhood friends gone wrong. The short story should be the start of a series ala Ryan Decker but with a Koontz voice.

I didn't enjoy it but couldn't walk away
Revisado: 10-25-21
This is a brutal story of abuse. It is slow, disturbing, and infuriating. More than once I walked away from it but I always came back to see how it ended. I'm glad I finished it but the compulsion was surprising and I felt more relieved than satisfied.

Slow but steady

With a defense that's hard to handle and a defendant that's hard to like, this story plods along at a sometimes strained but ultimately enjoyable pace.

This book has some predictable twists to disguise a couple surprises. It is a fun detective court crime novel and it doesn't get watered down with an unnecessary love story.

I'd love to see Koontzy revisit this concept with the added complications of modern digital life. The Ancient Enemy is entertaining, chilling, thought provoking, and a worthy read or listen.
