Historia
A girl and her father live close to the land in the shadow of a lone mountain. They possess a few remnants of civilization: some books, a pane of glass, a set of flint and steel, a comb. The father teaches the girl how to fish and hunt, the secrets of the seasons and the stars. He is preparing her for an adulthood in harmony with nature, for they are the last of humankind. But when the girl finds herself alone in an unknown landscape, it is a bear that will lead her back home through a vast wilderness that offers the greatest lessons of all, if she can only learn to listen.

Couldn't Get Invested
Revisado: 06-05-22
I got an hour into this and couldn't finish it because I kept getting distracted. I wasn't invested at all. Maybe it has symbolism by the end but none of the traditional elements of an engaging story are there. The characters are kept at such a distance from the reader - not even names. I get it - they're the last; they could be anyone. But you can't convince me they don't call each other by names. Thoughts and emotions were minimal. I felt no human connection to them. An hour into the story and no major conflict had emerged. I personally wasn't a big fan of the narrator either. This one wasn't for me.

Lighthearted but meaningful
Revisado: 09-21-21
This story was cute, well-paced, and a fun read. I appreciate a story, especially a fairy tale, about the time and communication it takes to make love work long-term. The narration was just okay. All the voice actors are talented; I'm just really picky about men reading women's voices and vice-versa. It can be over-done, and I particularly dislike how the actor who plays Ambrose voices women (I've heard him read for other books as well). But especially for this story, it had the effect of making both characters seem like teenagers when I think part of the point was to have a slightly older couple. *shrug* I'm still glad I listened to this one.

Fun little character-based story
Revisado: 03-24-21
The mystery of this story wasn't shocking but it didn't turn out exactly as I was thinking it would. I liked the characters who felt real, and I enjoyed learning the personal story of Don. The setting of the virus lockdown was cool because it's so relatable and makes this a unique piece for its time. The dialogue was natural, and the narration really made the listen fun.

A Fun Little Novella
Revisado: 11-20-20
I enjoyed the main character and found it to be an easy listen with realistic, relatable situations. The narrator has a nice voice and accent, but I never like it when female narrators unnaturally lower their voices to depict the male characters.

Delightful
Revisado: 01-26-19
I never do guess all the clever tricks of the King of Attolia. All Turner's characters are rich, real, and heartwarming. I enjoyed this installment even more than the last, and I can't wait for the next book! Steve West was a great choice for this story. He is always a pleasure to listen to.
