Michael had been really consistent up to this book and it's frustrating that he suddenly changed how he pronounced some of the names. I don't know if the author corrected it, but she should have done that 13 books ago if she didn't like it.

I'm not sure that I like Jesse's chara ter much. I liked the "kids." I like Sean and the rest of the cast but something about Jesse's is just off putting. Then, as far as narration goes, We'll couldn't seem to decide how Devan's name is pronounced. Honestly he should have e just gone with how the other narrator said it for consistency sake. I usually like Fell, but this was a let down.

I've loved both authors stories for a long time, but this is the first time I've actually set down a book because I just can't read it. I don't WANT to read it. I'd been putting it off for a long while but I wanted an easy read with a himbo MC and, while this delivered that, the story was drivel. The characters were meh. And where was the chemistry? Not to mention the narrator. He wasn't bad, not at all, but after hearing Iggy and Alex for basically every book, he just didn't hit the mark of expectations.

After this let down, and the Dalton twin let downs, I'm thinking I'll have to pull back on the auto buy from both her and Eden for a bit. 😬

Kids and Cuties

I'm such a sucker for books about single dad's. 😮‍💨 But seriously, the storyline was great and it wasn't filled with sex scenes after sex scenes. They kept it mostly about Gage and his kids and Mason wanting to help out and step in. I do kind of wonder why Gage didn't go looking for his son sooner, since he was going to pick him up early anyway, but that's more of a me thing. I think this one might fall into my rotation of semi regular relistens.

This was a 5 star read through and through. Alexander was an absolute perfect fit, as was the the other narrator. The story is real, and raw. The characters are likeable while still having flaws. I think my only gripe would be there's just too many sex scenes for me. Once they're together it just gets to be too often for my personal taste. Book two needs to come out in audible format, STAT.

Normally I'm fine with Kirt's somewhat dry delivery, especially if I speed it up, but I don't think it worked for this. Dane had absolutely zero inflection, even when discussing the heartbreak of his loss. The characters sounded all the same. I'll continue the story, which was fine, but Graves narration is disappointing at best.

it's a lot

The "dark" part of this is significantly -more- than the first book. The torture is much more vivid, and there's no behind closed door scenes. I almost had to put this down during one particular act of violence because it's directly tied to a huge fear of mine. I enjoyed the romance between Vasil and Mason and I was great seeing a softer side to Nick.

I can't get a read on the characters. They're so all over the place and I'll be honest, the narrator sounds as dry as a desert with as much tone and inflection he adds to the story. I know it's supposed to be a gritty mystery but the narrator makes me zone out. I want them to get together so I'll keep reading but it's not at the top of my list. (Which is a shame because I've been dying for some TRUE slow burn and this delivers that.)

The Only Saving Grace...

... was the narrator. I'm not going to lie, I DNF'd this with just 28 minutes left because I couldn't be bothered wasting anymore of my time. Logan was an asshole douchebag who gets mad after Brody founds out he made a BET about getting him to sleep with Logan, which he had every right to be pissed about, and Logan treats his other hookups like shit. Brody does nothing but whine and boohoo throughout the entire book, even tries to resist help despite his product not selling, and his parents are atrocious. Theo is a walking stereotype when you think of ex-fiance who gets over it way too fast even though they were the one to propose. Don't even get me started on the sex scenes. I spent way more time zoned out than actually listening to this drivel.

Nothing at all was believable about this story and honestly I'm upset I spent my money on this. Don't waste your time.

got tired of the sex

I love a good friends to lovers, especially with a demi bisexual Awakening but I got so tired of the sex. It went from 0 to 100, from some rutting and kisses to feeling like every other chapter and with a book this short it makes it feel like I'm losing out on actual story.. loved the characters though and love how much all these big burly guys love animals.. ❤️
