Worth Finishing
Revisado: 01-28-25
Shortly in my first impressions were, “oh my another feminist hippie self help book for the aging woman 😬” but I pressed on and did find some value in it.
There are great points about consumerism and that primal need we all have for nature to make us feel complete and happy and to be able to live free from anxiety and depression. Maybe this technology driven concrete age we live in is why so many of us have stress, anxiety, and depression.
I found definite truths about how disconnected we are from our natural world. How we don’t really know where things come from nor what it is doing to our environment. Tis true that we are all craving nature while everyday working to destroy it.
I absolutely loved the stories in this book, not just the stories about her life’s journey, but also the folklore; I especially liked the one about the silkies or silkie woman.
I completely agree that It is hard to care for what we don’t know and we all need those wild edges where one can be their true self. This book lead me down various rabbit holes and I still find myself digging deeper into some of the things she merely mentioned. This book is definitely worth reading, especially if you are a middle aged or aging woman.

Good Read
Revisado: 10-02-24
Good story, I loved the passed down family heritage loving feel of the book. I didn’t quite like all of the jumping back and forth in timelines, but I understand why it was written that way. Some parts of the book really hit home for me and I am sure a lot of people can relate. When she said that it is Surreal how everything kept on, kept on going after someone died - Shouldn’t time stop for grief even for a moment, so one might catch their breath before things started moving again. Anyone who has lost someone or has had any sort of life shattering event knows how you are paused and emotional as the world still whips by around you and you are just expected to instantly move on. I Also loved the line of how Being a woman is not always an easy thing and one must find peace and happiness whenever and wherever she can. Sadly, this line also hit my heart, “Babies die for all sorts of reasons, that is just life…”
I enjoyed the book and would say it is a good read.

Perhaps you have heard murmurs surrounding Appalachian folklore, and this has piqued your interest, and you've decided you want to learn more. Or maybe you are a passionate reader of magic, witchcraft, and folklore, and you're searching for a new phenomenon to learn about. Appalachian folk magic is a rich tapestry of mystery and magic, yet despite this, there are very few sources of information to choose from.

Historia
In 1893, there's no such thing as witches. There used to be, in the wild, dark days before the burnings began, but now witching is nothing but tidy charms and nursery rhymes. If the modern woman wants any measure of power, she must find it at the ballot box. But when the Eastwood sisters - James Juniper, Agnes Amaranth, and Beatrice Belladonna - join the suffragists of New Salem, they begin to pursue the forgotten words and ways that might turn the women's movement into the witch's movement.

It was good
Revisado: 08-03-24
At first I Didn’t really like the writing style nor get into it until chapter 7. Chapter 7 finally drew me into the story with the tarot reading and The baby decision. I also really enjoy chapter 12 and 34/35. I very much enjoyed how they used some real stuff in it like the real uses of herbs. It is a long book and the end seemed a bit rushed to bring everything to a close, but even with everything it was a good 4 star and I will try more books from this author. 👍

More than I expected
Revisado: 07-09-24
This book is not just a dive into the cards meanings. It is a mixture of religion, mythology, history, stories, and therapy. It is much more than what I was expecting.
I had to look up some things and some of it made me go down different rabbit holes of research. I also feel like I have to reread this book and have a highlighter and take notes. It has a lot of valuable information to take in and good references to other books to check out.
Overall, I enjoyed it; and this is coming from a person who has resisted therapy all my life, but has recently come to see the value in it. Many of these words hit home and spoke to me deeply; such as the section on the queen of swords. It is definitely worth a read. 😉

I don’t agree with everything in this book, but I do find good things within it. Don’t let the therapy aspect and the political/politically correct/progressive bs make you not read this book. There are a lot of good words within it and the outlined rituals are nice too.
