Politicaly Tainted and Basic
Revisado: 09-18-23
I had a feeling this was going to be a waste of time when hearing the speakers credentials and realizing he has no real world or practical experience as a practicing psychologist but instead has been institutionalized in the education system his entire life. The information is basic, which is fine for an introductory course, so I gave it 3 stars, but don't expect to learn many secrets of human behavior here as most of what is pointed out would be obvious to anyone of above average intelligence. Also, because of the liberal institutionalization of the speaker and subject matter, a good deal of it seems biased toward an agenda, even if that agenda is unconscious. For example, the speaker lists multiple stereotypes that can be positive, even though they are correct statistically as the speaker mentions himself, but makes no mention that negative stereotypes can also have statistical truth to them and instead blames others perceptions of individuals. There is a disconnect here that seems to be a main theme in the work. Worth listening, if you can tell the difference, but most people probably can not, given that many students who could benefit from this course would be young and inexperienced and utterly malleable.

Historia
Ordered to hold an abandoned army post, John Dunbar found himself alone, beyond the edge of civilization. Thievery and survival soon forced him into the Indian camp, where he began a dangerous adventure that changed his life forever. Set in 1863, the novel follows Lieutenant John Dunbar on a magical journey from the ravages of the Civil War to the far reaches of the imperiled American frontier, a frontier he naively wants to see "before it is gone".

Historia
The prevailing image of European Jews during the Holocaust is one of helpless victims. But in fact, many Jews struggled against the terrors of the Third Reich. This is the riveting history of one such group: a forest community numbering more than 1,200 that carried out the largest armed rescue operation of Jews by Jews in World War II.

Historia
In this classic fantasy novel from author Michael Ende, small and insignificant Bastian Balthazar Bux is nobody's idea of a hero, least of all his own. Then, through the pages of an ancient, mysterious book, he discovers the enchanted world of Fantastica, and only Bastian himself can save the fairy people who live there. Shy, awkward Bastian is amazed to discover that he has become a character in the mysterious book he is reading and that he has an important mission to fulfill.

Narrator ruined this book for me.
Revisado: 11-20-21
The narrator went on long stretches in a monotone voice it felt like I was falling asleep in geography class with a bad professor. Some of the voices he did were pretty good but he kept going in and out of a whispering voice and it was very hard to hear I kept having to turn it up because he was whispering half the time and then you would switch back to his monotone narration. Also this book was in desperate need of an editor which basically it got with the movie script. The climax is literally halfway through the book so the entire rest of the book has no plot and you keep telling yourself why am I listening to this what is the point.

And when they decided she was a liability, they came for her without warning. Now she rarely stays in the same place or uses the same name for long. They've killed the only other person she trusted, but something she knows still poses a threat. They want her dead, and soon.

This book is bad and I am a Stephanie fan!
Revisado: 11-06-21
First of all I'm a really big Stephenie Meyers fan and I have enjoyed all of her other work but I hate to say it this book was terrible. it was as if the book did not know what it wanted to be. I would say the first 20% in the last 20% weren't too bad for a spy type novel but predictable and mediocre at best. Everything in the middle was absolute trash. It should have been a short story at most and was in desperate need of an editor who should have put the brakes on this mess. The concept in the beginning was interesting and then it turned into a 1980s Fabio cheesy romance novel for absolutely no reason and I am a huge Twilight fan by the way and the romance in The Host worked out really well but this was forced and it made absolutely no sense it detracted from the very thin plot. It felt like the ending was tacked on as if she remembered the story actually needed a direction. The voice work was good. It almost felt like she had some rough draft of The Host material lying around and decided to add material at the beginning and end to create a new book and not in a good way.

Started out strong but..
Revisado: 10-24-21
Interesting concept, wasn't bad, worth the listen. Started out strong but decended into adolescent depravity and same plot for each book. Funny in some parts. Plot never really goes anywhere. Won't be buying the next one but overall it was entertaining.

Historia
We are in a small room with the vampire, face to face, as he speaks--as he pours out the hypnotic, shocking, moving, and erotically charged confessions of his first two hundred years as one of the living dead. . . He speaks quietly, plainly, even gently . . . carrying us back to the night when he departed human existence as heir--young, romantic, cultivated--to a great Louisiana plantation, and was inducted by the radiant and sinister Lestat into the other, the "endless," life....

the narrator does a fine job and would have been good for any other book but unfortunately he makes Louis and Lestat sound like 60 year old boring Frenchman

They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. Stephen King is insane.
Revisado: 10-17-17
It is a decent book and well worth the read but I'll tell you Stephen King is all over the place with his writing. Random tangents and unnecessary storylines and characters do not begin to describe this mess. it is a story that probably could have been told and 1/3 of the time if cleaned up a little bit. the guy knows how to write, he is very descriptive and paints beautiful pictures but I repeat myself Stephen King is insane. Even to the very end of the book he is still adding new characters to the story that don't even need to be there and I will not put any spoilers here but I will tell you one thing you get to a point toward the end or something very strange happens involving young children doing something that they should not be doing with each other and you will just wonder what the hell he was thinking. There was absolutely no need for the scene and you will know the scene I am talking about to have occurred. I am not necessarily against that particular scene being written if it was in context of a story where actually made sense but it makes no sense whatsoever in this book. It was almost as though he added it just to see if his publisher was even reading his stuff before it went to print. LOL
