A New Favorite

I will be listening to this book again. I don’t want to leave Fred’s world. This is one of those books I couldn’t put down, but I didn’t want to end. I hope we’ll all be blessed with more books by this very talented author.

Disappointing ending

Yes there were twists, and the end was especially a twist, but that didn’t make it good. I feel cheated, having stayed with the story, expecting an ending that at least lived up to what came before. Now that I’ve finished, I feel like I just drove by a terrible wreck.

Horrible Narration!

I was so eager to listen to a Backman story! I couldn’t continue after about 8 minutes. The over dramatic narration made it impossible to listen. This could not have been the best choice to narrate a gruff (but I imagine very likable) Backman character while still maintaining the unique humor of this author. I’m sure the story must be good. I’ll have to read it and try to forget what I listened to.

To finish or not? Maybe I don't even care.

I'm about an hour and a half from the end. I loved the book up until a certain point, when the story and characters became weirdly contorted and I felt like the author was manipulating the reader. It turned into a completely different story, and now it's one I can't manage to find even interesting. Twists and turns, yes, but too many twists, and it's abuse of the reader's trust.

Didn’t finish

After listening for about 20 minutes, I checked to see if I was really reading the book I thought I bought. The tiring detail of her school episodes, not to mention how unrealistic the teacher/parents/principal story played out let me know that I was indeed listening to a book I didn’t care to hear. Just glad I didn’t use a credit for this one. I should have read more of the reviews before buying.

What Fun!

I was after I’d finished this book (the first for me from this author) that I read that Benjamin Stevenson is also a stand-up comedian. That figures. I love the humor as much as the story and narration. Now I’ll check his other works to see what I’ll read next. I’m definitely eager for more of this fun.

The book description caused me to look forward to a mystery and a story of a house. That always catches my eye. I did stay to the end, but good grief, girl! Make up your mind and see what’s right in front of you. The too-detailed sex scenes were TMI for me. I’m glad I got this one on sale. Not worth a full credit.

I’m just sad that the book ended. I listened every chance I got for four days and it will stay with me for a very long time. I’m grateful that their story has been told in such a meaningful way.
