Virtual narrator totally lacks inflections that MAKE the story!
Revisado: 12-20-23
The virtual voice made the story not worth listening to. No inflections in the voice. The “Reading” is monotone, without understanding of the sentences.
Narrator: “He had spent plenty of time in Junior. High against the wall at dances.”
Call me crazy, but I think the author may have meant “He had spent plenty of time in Junior High, against the wall at dances”.
I stopped 3/4 through chapter 1, but the story starts well. I may have enjoyed it, if only the “reader” were able to show any understanding of the story.

A Good story becomes a Great one when words important to the story are pronounced correctly!
Revisado: 11-23-23
Great story. Well performed, though the medical professional in me cringed each time “Neurologist” was pronounced “Neerologist”.
A couple other medical terms were mispronounced, but the repetition of “neerology/neerologist” got on my “neerves”!

Historia
The Frosts are a typical American family. Barb and John, married almost 50 years, are testy and bored with each other...who could blame them after all this time? At least they have their daughters - Barb's favorite, the perfect, brilliant Juliet; and John's darling, the free-spirited Sadie. The girls themselves couldn't be more different, but at least they got along, more or less. It was fine. It was enough. Until the day John had a stroke, and their house of cards came tumbling down. Now Sadie has to put her career as a teacher and struggling artist in New York on hold....

Nearly stopped listening, but happy to have finished this book!
Revisado: 08-06-23
By 8 chapters in, I was triggered by the wife’s(Barb) negative score-keeping about her husband, and my life’s similarities. I was ready to quit the book. Multiple negative reviews expressed similar feelings, though some reviews noted a familial resolution by the end of the book. I read the final chapter, and decided to return to chapter eight & finish the book. Very pleased that I did!

Thorns left by family secrets.
Revisado: 03-19-23
As a child born into a family with a few secrets, I eventually learned that brutal honesty can be a breath of fresh air.
This story, through its twists & turns illustrates this well, and was an intriguing listen!

A Strange View of Amish Life AND Negative Stereotyping of “A Close Plus-Sized Friend”
Revisado: 12-22-22
The story itself was an acceptable rapidly-paced holiday love story. There was far more dependence on electrical appliances and commercial convenience foods than I’ve ever seen in Amish stories. I wondered if the author received payments for her mentions of the many brands.
The “valued neighbor and friend” was portrayed as shamefully lazy, persistently eating, a good cook, but bad-smelling, deodorant rejecting, and ignoring of her child’s dirty diapers; while the main character was, of course, very small (apparently a most important of virtues), well-mannered, very attentive to children and home.
Both commercialism and fat-bashing were too prevalent to make this story recommendable .

Disappointingly Rapid Ending
Revisado: 12-15-22
This initially well developed story ended as too many do, with the first 5 hrs 8 min laying out complex issues related to interesting characters, and the last 5 min magically solving everything with a declaration of love.
I’d have happily listened another hour to have the story end as well as it began!
