Best book of the Century
Revisado: 11-30-24
I only checked this out because of the New York Times’ top 100 list. I came into it doubtful that I would like it. I was pleasantly surprised. Especially being a dude that enjoys fantasy, military history and sci-fi. While I don’t know if I agree with it being the best book of the century, I can definitely see why someone would put it at the top.

Historia
Who in the storied history of the greatest fighting force the galaxy’s ever known shines as their brightest beacon? Who is the template for legionnaire virtue, the person that every leej who ever wore the bucket strives to be? Only one legionnaire qualifies: General Rex. The general has become more myth than man. More fable than real. The Legion he led to victory in the Savage Wars followed his example of warrior perfection and absolute duty unto death to save humanity while painting glory across the stars. The Legion was his legacy; it cemented the legend of Tyrus Rex.

Historia
Things I’ll Never Forget is the story of a young high school graduate in 1965 who faces being drafted into the Army or volunteering for the Marine Corps. These are his memories of funny times, disgusting times and deadly times. The author kept a journal for an entire year; therefore many of the dates, times and places are accurate. The rest is based on memories that are forever tattooed on his brain. This is not a pro-war book, nor is it anti-war. It is the true story of what the Marine Corps was like in the late 1960’s.

Historia
In the wake of the George Floyd murder and calls for defunding the police, Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd reflects on our changing points of view on law enforcement through a personal prism - the life and times of her father. For four decades, Detective Sergeant Michael J. Dowd served on the Washington, DC, police force, guarding presidents and catching killers. Meanwhile, his daughter grew up as a child of the 1960s, embracing liberal politics and evolving into a journalist some presidents might have thought they needed to be guarded from.

Someone recommended this series to me, but I had difficulty finishing this book. It has all the right pieces for a good novel, but it never connected with me. This series is quite successful, so others like it. Just not for me.

Historia
Sam Hill always saw the world through different eyes. Born with red pupils, he was called “Devil Boy” or Sam “Hell” by his classmates; “God’s will” is what his mother called his ocular albinism. Her words were of little comfort, but Sam persevered. Sam believed it was God who sent Ernie Cantwell, the only African American kid in his class, to be the friend he so desperately needed. And that it was God’s idea for Mickie Kennedy to storm into Our Lady of Mercy like a tornado, uprooting every rule Sam had been taught about boys and girls. Forty years later, Sam, a small-town eye doctor, is no longer certain anything was by design.

A Great Way To Spend Your Time
Revisado: 10-30-21
I haven’t enjoyed a story like this in a while. I also don’t right reviews, but I find myself with the time and the desire to do so now. A YouTuber recommended this book so I checked it. I liked the cover.
I started listening to the book in the truck. I would go through out my day wondering “what is next for Sam Hell?”
I enjoyed the structure and flow of this book. I could recommend this book to anyone. Try it. You won’t be disappointed.

Years later, they find themselves tracked by an entity bent on revenge, totally helpless as the culture and traditions they left behind catch up to them in a vengeful way.
