Not the book for audio

Tried this book on audible and thought T.A. White wasn’t for me. Then I devoured all of her Aileen Travers books on kindle and loved them. I thought I’d try this series again and came back to listen on audible. I realized - it’s the performance that made this book unenjoyable. It’s so subtle I wouldn’t have known without reading a different series. I’m glad I stopped trying this on audible and switched to reading this on kindle. Initially I thought it was the writing but it’s actually the performance and it can make or break a book. So I am now a T.A. White fan!

Great narration! For a great book!

Story is awesome! and the narrator’s inflection, cadence, and intonation brought it up another level. Really a voice actor and she nailed it. The male narrator did good but not at the same level. He didn’t distract but he didn’t have the nuance. I bought the first book of series on kindle and enjoyed it. This second book, I listened to here. If the third has same narrators, I’m getting it here on audible. That’s how good it was. And I’d like to find other books by the female narrator.

I read &/or listen to roughly 450 titles a year. I ALWAYS finish a book. Not this one.

I cannot stand a weak lead female character. The male lead character was equally as weak! Just no respect for either one and it became more and more frustrating listening to them make stupid decisions. Get some vertebrae and walk upright. When fated mate takes over your brain cells yet both mains are too weak to make a stand - no, just no. The story had potential and I tried to tough it out to see what happened but eventually did not care what happened to the characters.

I’ve liked these authors previously but this book was horrible.

Narrator was average. The range of voices were okay and differentiated from one another clearly. However, I might have been less aggravated reading this book, rather than listening, because I could have speed read parts to get past stupid decision after stupid decision, to see if anyone ever took a stand or started making rational decisions.

h Strong but believable for that period

So enjoyable and well written. Loved the heroine. She was strong, sensible, and kind. The narrator had wonderful different voices and the performance was great. She did have an uptalk ending to each sentence that in that accent reminded me of Cary Grant. A tiny bit distracting but probably only for me. I highly recommend this book.

Absolutely wonderful!

I was drawn to the beautiful book cover (finally the cover matches the book). I stayed for the story and narration. They were absolute perfection! I read a lot and this writing stands out as unique and excellent. I find it hard to listen to books because I am extremely picky about the performance. This narrator is truly is truly an actor. Her inflection and emotion wasn’t neutral it absolutely added to the story. I will be looking for other books performed by her. Other narrators/voice actors take note. This is how it’s done.

MFC is a brat.

Narration was wonderful. Story was interesting. MFC ruined it for me. She was just a brat for no reason, start to finish. I’m not usually sensitive to things like that and like diverse characters, however it was too much too often. Ruined the story for me.

Apocalypse takes a back seat to romance

Adjust your expectations. This is a romance book that happens to take place during apocalypse. It’s interesting and a bodice-ripper.
