Historia
A lone narrator meets a railway worker who is confined to a cold, gloomy station in a deep cutting near a tunnel entrance. This worker is a signalman, and it is his responsibility to give the green light for trains to pass through the area. These are slow, monotonous days. The signalman’s life is not marked by much, until the nightmares begin. Three times in a row, a ghost mysteriously appears before the signalman – and with each apparition, a tragic accident unfolds on the rail tracks. Although our narrator doubts the man at first, events soon make him a believer too.

Love the Dolby
Revisado: 03-28-25
This short story is very unlike Dickens and had I listened without knowing who wrote it, I would have guessed it was Poe. The original music and the sounds make the experience more atmospheric. I believe anyone would enjoy this.

Historia
Sydney Shaw, like every single woman in New York, has terrible luck with dating. She’s seen it all: men who lie in their dating profile, men who stick her with the dinner bill, and worst of all, men who can't shut up about their mothers. But finally, she hits the jackpot. Her new boyfriend is utterly perfect. He's charming, handsome, and works as a doctor at a local hospital. Sydney is swept off her feet. Then the brutal murder of a young woman—the latest in a string of deaths across the coast—confounds police. The primary suspect? A mystery man who dates his victims before he kills them.

Unexpected ending!
Revisado: 01-01-25
I thought I knew what was going to happen, but got a double surprise. And an unexpected ending. I don’t dare say nothing else less I give something away. I think I may have to read this again some day.

I hate virtual voice
Revisado: 11-27-24
I’ll never again listen to a book narrated by virtual voice. There is no emotion and a few words were even mispronounced.

A nice story with mystery
Revisado: 11-14-24
First of all, pay no attention to the reviews that say the narrator has a lisp. She does not. I think they want the name of the heroine to be Althea but it is Alethea, which probably makes them think that is a lisp when pronounced properly. I enjoyed the mystery part of the story and how it unfolds. Not your usual romance story.

Way too long. I listened on my iPad in bed so I could skip many portions when I fell asleep. This story could have been done in 10 hours - less than the 18 hours it is. I will avoid future books by this author that are this long.

Great narration
Revisado: 07-14-24
Pay no attention to reviewers annoyed by what they think is mispronounced words. The narrator is British and is pronouncing words like many English. All the reviewers had to do was google “how to pronounce” grimace or Boadicea to learn she pronounced the words correctly. The story was excellent, going into several directions not predictable. Both main characters are mature so no silly misunderstandings.

Historia
Nicholas Delmore, the earl of Hawksley, was not expecting a snowstorm-sieged London evening to end with a dagger held to his throat. Nor did he anticipate his spirited attacker to have glossy black tresses and lush red lips that might invite a lesser gentleman to steal a kiss. But before he can demand his beautiful assailant to identify herself, she faints dead away in his arms.

Good, but…
Revisado: 05-18-24
What’s with authors not paying attention to history when writing? This story is full of anachronisms. She uses words not even invented during the time period, like narcissism, egotism, and angst. One other thing that was distracting was the use of modern cliches and song lyrics. Other than that, it was a good story with excellent narration.

Danger Will Robinson! I
Revisado: 04-07-24
Beware of a narrator who sounds like a talking robot in the 1960s. Since she sounds like a pupil learning to read, she makes the characters in the book seem like they are simpletons, ruining the whole book. With a different narrator, this book would be rated much higher by anyone who listens to it.

Rating dragged down by narrator
Revisado: 04-06-24
There’s nothing more annoying than hearing an adult read like they are a 5 yo learning to read. Combine that with bad mispronunciations and you have a book you can barely listen to being read aloud. Especially egregious is the mispronunciation of nautical terms. I don’t understand why the production company does not prepare the narrators in advance.

Only one complaint
Revisado: 03-08-24
The narrator failed to pronounce several words correctly, a bugaboo of mine. It was especially annoying that she would pronounce the title of marquis sometimes as the English do and other times as the French.
