I had read some of this on one of those "Pay per Chapter" platforms, but never finished it because...I just refused to pay like $40+ for something that is basically reading "junk food". Because of it's previous home, however, this story drags on way longer than is necessary. They could have had like a 3-4 book series between the 2 books, but I didn't even feel like finishing this one at some point. This Elitist versus Slut shamed Rogue subgenre, where all the characters end up coupled up in the End. Slash, Alphahole, manwhore with a secret heart of gold, who was initially awful at least for 50% of book, but nevermind We are mates so...love. Slash, I tried to tell you life altering information, so I don't know how you didn't know you have a 15 year old kid you know nothing about (kid was 5, but Secret Baby stories really kinda tick me off.) I just don't understand all these 5 star reviews...it's not. It really is 2.75 stars for length alone TBH. But if you don't mind the repetitive nature, meandering storyline, and probable cliffhanger. It's Gold!!

After reading this author's other series which was included in my Audibles membership, I didn't mind purchasing a book in the same genre. This was a miss for me. The Saints and Scoundrels trilogy had it's issues but the stories were better reads. All these stories seem to have the same basic romance with added attempted murder plot for a twist, but this one came out of left field and made no sense. I also don't know why they needed to use the word "fossil" soooo much in the text. I ended up finishing the book on Kindle Unlimited, because the narration was not for me and the story felt like it was dragging on.

FMC will make you want to scream.

I liked the book overall. Listening to Eyre felt like "old times" all her female and male character voices sound the same just different stories (but it was fine). There is a murder mystery sprinkled into this plot which adds a bit of a twist to the story and although I did suspect the killer...it was presented in a good twist and I was surprised. What made the story a trial and why I haven't gone to the next in the series is the way the FMC acts in ridiculous ways throughout the book, poor decision making which puts her in danger. At some point her decision to act in this obtuse manner was just grating. There were several times were we as readers KNOW that something bad is going to happen but the character doesn't. Sophie knew her life was potentially in danger, yet she chose to act in ways that put her in danger. She did this throughout the book with zero planning. Prior to her planning to marry she was living her life in a way where she had firm ideas on things that she wanted to do but no real future way to attain those goals and she refused to listen to her aunt. It didn't ruin the story, it just grated on me as a reader.

Misleading genre classification as well as doormat Female Lead

So I don't have a problem with a Christian historical romance if it is properly titled. But the actual romance was nonexistent with the story dragging on for hours and hours. Even in a marriage of convenience, I believe it needs to actually be consummated for legality reasons...otherwise you are literally just an unpaid housekeeper. I didn't understand why it took her so many months to understand what was truly going on in her "marriage". And I didn't understand why this pastor's wife encouraged marriage after so little time. As someone who is about 6 months out from a divorce I can tell you, grief takes as long as it takes...dragging another party into it is a mistake. I don't understand what he was even offering her in this supposed marital arrangement. no love, no hot sex, just raising someone else's kids and housework...pass

Book 1 isn't bad, but book 2 kills it. I returned it!

So when this was recommended a few weeks ago I was interested, but pretty sure I had read it before. Sure enough, I had book 1 on my ex's Audibles account, but wondered why I didn't finish the series out. This 3 in one seemed like a great bargain and after re-listening to the first book, I was game. I was maybe.

So I skipped over quite a bit of Archangel's Light and honestly thought I was done with the series before the blurb for this book. I was intrigued by the glimpse of this pairing in Archangel's War and was looking forward to the story. That said, I don't think that a human mind can really grasp the concept of a relationship that spans thousands of years. I mean this was an ancient version of those "trainwreck" couples we all know who break up every other week and then get back together. The ending that Singh gives the reader lacks any credibility, as these two individuals have spent millenia hurting each other and being with other people. Alexander father's a child with someone else. From the start he makes her wait thinking her too young, yet Raphael is with Elena who is basically a baby angel status wise. I just wish that Singh had given a true love story, maybe a tragic breakup and the amazing reconciliation, but that off/on relationship (couldn't be all that normal, even other angels were like...what???). Narration was on point as always with the series, but the story. It probably too 2 listens to like it. As a black woman, I wish the Angel of the Nile could have gotten something a little better, but oh well.

Enjoyed narration, meh on story...

I thought the book before this and then this book would move Lothaire to have a more significant redemption arc of some kind. In both this book and the one before, I ended the book kinda feeling like, "girl, you can do better"!!! While Lothaire does gain insight by the end to an extent, he still thinks in a transactional way but it was enjoyable overall

Probably my least favorite of the series...

I didn't like the Noah and Kit story in the previous series for a number of reasons and this one fell flat for me as well. Honestly, I wanted to know more about what was going on with Jake and Jules and loved the little tidbit on Gabe and Charlie. I always knew this romance was in the works from the previous books but it was just meh for me. The story is good and the relationship works, but just wasn't my cup of tea.
