Discover the remarkable history of the Crimean War...The Crimean War was one of the bloodiest conflicts of the 19th century, but it is also one of the least remembered. More men died in the Crimean War than in the American Civil War which followed soon after. Yet the Crimean War is important for a number of reasons. Although it did not change the map of Europe and did not directly cause the fall of any of the combatants, it did indirectly shape the second half of the 19th century and the early years of the twentieth century in Europe.

Revisado: 09-02-22
has a retired world history teacher I was impressed by the scope of the book about the Crimean war. though I never thought about the Crimean War it should have been part of the curriculum in world history. hearing of this major battle fought near the same time as the civil War and shaping history of Europe and beginning the modern warfare this war should have received more coverage in the history books. the narrator is very easy to listen to and is very professional. I recommend this performance to anyone who wants to learn have a very important event which shaped the history of Eastern Europe and the history of Russia and the Ottoman Empire and led up to major events of the world. this is a great performance.

Historia
Did you know that as of 2018, Argentina has a literacy level of 99 percent? Are you curious to find out how it achieved this? Argentina has a long and complex history. For hundreds of years, Argentina was inhabited by hunter-gatherer groups. In time, the Inca Empire rose to prominence and took over the Argentinian communities one by one. The Spanish arrived about 20 years later, bringing a new wave of invasion to the native inhabitants. The people of Argentina wouldn’t declare their independence until 1816, and after that, they faced civil war after civil war.

Revisado: 09-18-21
Argentina has a rich history from the native Americans through the Spanish colonial times to the fight for independence and the struggle to become free from dictators. You will not be bored listening to this audio book with all the stories and adventures contained in it. There are heroes from beginning to end not all of them successful but heroes just the same. The book is well researched and presents much information which will give you more understanding of the people of Argentina.
The narrator has a resonating articulate voice which is easily understood. The production is of professional quality. There are some pronunciation problems with Spanish names but other than that it is a good production. This is a good way to learn history and and drive at the same time.
I highly recommend this book to all who are interested in learning about the history of Argentina and South America. It is a good audio book.

Historia
The Pequot War (1636-1638) was a short-lived but extremely violent and bloody episode in United States history. This event represents one of the turning points in the entire history of North America, as the war changed the balance of power. The Dutch colonial authorities lost their status of being the dominant economic and political force, while the English took over this epithet. The end of the war also represented the first stage in England’s intensive expansion in that part of the world.

Sad story of European & Native Ameican relations
Revisado: 09-12-21
The Pequot war was the first major conflict between the colonists and the Native Americans. It was also one of the most tragic events in the history of colonial times. An entire tribe was destroyed and few escaped the tragic slaughter. Those who survived became slaves or were put on reservations. In some cases they were tortured. Unfortunately this type of treatment of Native Americans would not end but continued into the 20th century.
It was interesting that many Native American tribes allied with the Europeans against the Pequot tribes in this war, some who had even been allied with them before. The tribes were ever changing in their alliances and often would change sides during a war.
The King Philip's war followed closely after the Pequot war and some say it was a continuation of the Pequot war. Many of the issues were the same but some of the allies switched sides and fought against the Europeans.
The audio production was good and easy to listen to. The narrator was very easy to follow and had a pleasant sounding voice. This is a great way to spend time while driving and to learn at the same time.
I highly recommend this audio book to anyone interested in American history or in the history of the Native Americans. I have studied American history extensively as a history teacher and I learned new things listening to this audio book. I encourage audio listeners to listen to this audio production to become aware of our dark moments in history.

Historia
The tale of William the Conqueror is written down by numerous contemporaries with various perspectives. It's a tale that would inspire some, while fascinate and even terrify others. It’s a tale of a man from a seemingly small land rising to rule one of the most powerful, stable kingdoms in all of Europe at the time - a kingdom that would sow the seeds of an empire that would sprout many centuries later.

Comprehensive history of William the Conqueror
Revisado: 09-11-21
This audio book gives you the foundation to understanding the characteristics of young William and describes the transformation of a boy into a major leader of a powerful empire. It introduces the people who helped to influence him and describes his relationship with them. The role models he was exposed to throughout his childhood and youth played a major role in his education and training and prepared him to rule Normandy at a very young age and even though there was a regent he often made key decisions.
This history explains the conditions leading up to the Battle of Hastings in 1066 and why it was fought. Events in both England and in Normandy led to this historic event which changed the history of both England and France and set the stage for future relations between the two great European powers. William's military strategy unified England and protected England from attack of tribes trying to invade England. William's organizational skills and farsightedness paved the way for his dynasty and for many reforms.
This audio book is professionally produced and is pleasant to listen to. The narrator is easy to listen to and easily followed. The research for this audio book is thorough and many surprising facts are revealed throughout the audio production. I learned many new things as I was listening, things I could have used when I was teaching world history. I would have liked to have had resources like this to help my students become more interested and to pay more attention to what I was presenting to them.
This is a great way to pass time while driving and learning history at the same time. In this audio book many things are presented which we have today and which we take for granted. Studying history helps us to understand our society and in many cases our laws. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn of the foundations of our legal system because much of the American legal system is based on English law which had its beginning with William the Conqueror. We owe it to ourselves to know how it started and how it evolved. This is a must listen and learn.

Historia
Throughout the centuries, Spain has been subject to the lordship of other countries. It was occupied by the ancient Greeks and Romans, the Visigoths, the French, and the Muslims. It has been the playground of both the respectful and the ruthless. The Spanish coasts have been occupied by the trading empires of Carthage and Rome. All that time, Spain was told by others how to run their country, how to fight, whom to fight, and where to fight.

Excellent information about Spanish history
Revisado: 09-10-21
I have studied Spanish history and the succession of kings and was interested to see how it would be covered in this audio book. It was above my expectations and I learned things that I had never before read or heard. A my major in college is Spanish I was impressed with the information presented but the pronunciation of Spanish words left a great deal to be desired. Sometimes they were so mispronounced that I had difficulty recognizing them.
The historical facts begin with the earliest nomadic tribes, the Celts, entering and settling the Iberian peninsula. It then passes through colonization by the Greeks and the later conquest by the Romans. The Iberian struggled for independence but seemed to be always invaded from outside. They have had a violent history being involved in many wars, being invaded and civil war.
This audio book is packed with information and to absorb it all it may require more than once through. I found it very interesting and enjoyable. This is a great way to spend time while driving and learn at the same time.
If we study history and follow the lessons learned we can avoid making the mistakes that have been made in the past. We as citizens should do our best to be prepared to make informed decisions. Even in history that is not our own we can learn many lessons. I recommend this audio book highly to anyone interested in learning history

Great audio about Normans & William the Conqueror
Revisado: 09-09-21
I found this audio production to be very enjoyable and informative. The narrator was easy to listen and understand. The information has been well researched and arranged in an easy way to follow. The story is well organized to give a background to why events unfolded the way they did in history. Since this is an audio rendering of a book it follows that the information can be read if desired.
English history is rich with interaction of cultures so the English people have inherited characteristics of many different cultural backgrounds. The Danes, Anglo-Saxon, Romans, Viking, Norwegians and Normans all left their mark on the culture and the language of England making it one of the richest and diverse countries in Europe. William the Conqueror came to England because of a claim on the throne of England after the death of King Edward.
William the Conqueror was a unique man with skills and experience to unify an empire. He was able to bring all of England under his rule by what we would call harsh means but managed to rule over Normandy and England as his empire. He instituted a system of taxation based on wealth and took an inventory of all property in the kingdom and recorded it in what was called the Doomsday Book. Many of the changes William made have been passed down through later Kings.
This is a high quality production and well worth the time to listen. It is an amazing way to learn and to pass time while driving. It would have been a great tool to use in the classroom when I was teaching history but it wasn't around then. I highly recommend this audio book series to anyone interested in history and in learning about European development. It is well worth the time and investment.
