Historia
Most books about the history of humanity pursue either a historical or a biological approach, but Dr. Yuval Noah Harari breaks the mold with this highly original book. From examining the role evolving humans have played in the global ecosystem to charting the rise of empires, Sapiens integrates history and science to reconsider accepted narratives, connect past developments with contemporary concerns, and examine specific events within the context of larger ideas.

EXCELLENCE! And very well read.

Outstanding and challenging reasoning. It will blow away your imagination by giving a vast new perspective for the word 'imagination'. One needs to be comfortable with questioning everything. But that is what makes life interesting.

Simply listening to this book is an experience of meditation.
Revisado: 01-31-25
I have listened to this soul comforting book multiple times. I set the reading speed to 0.9. Then, for me, simply hearing chapters 1 and 2 is one of the most life changing guided meditations I've ever listened to. Chapter one is a warm up, Chapter 2 is to be followed along with as a practice. In the midst of my physical pain this is a very helpful morning experience.

Historia
There may never be another era of science like the first half of the twentieth century, when many of the most important physicists ever to live—Marie Curie, Max Planck, Wolfgang Pauli, Niels Bohr, Werner Heisenberg, Ernst Schrödinger, Albert Einstein, and others—came together to uncover the quantum world: a concept so outrageous and shocking, so contrary to traditional physics, that its own founders rebelled against it until the equations held up and fundamentally changed our understanding of reality. Tobias Hürter takes us back to this uniquely momentous and harrowing time.

Historia
Whenever we worry about what to eat, how to love, or simply how to be happy, we are worrying about how to lead a good life. No goal is more elusive. In How to Be a Stoic, philosopher Massimo Pigliucci offers Stoicism, the ancient philosophy that inspired the great emperor Marcus Aurelius, as the best way to attain it. Stoicism is a pragmatic philosophy that teaches us to act depending on what is within our control and separate things worth getting upset about from those that are not.

Wonderful book but...
Revisado: 06-14-22
The reader lacks empathy with the subject and therefore is a pain to listen to. This is what happens when the real deal does not do the narration. Slowing it down did not help.

Historia
Over his decades of experience as a therapist and mindfulness meditation practitioner, Dr. Christopher Germer has learned a paradoxical lesson: We all want to avoid pain, but letting it in and responding compassionately to our own imperfections are essential steps on the path to healing. This wise and eloquent book illuminates the power of self-compassion and offers creative, scientifically grounded strategies for putting it into action.

Revisado: 03-23-22
I have been helped much by reading this book. But I cannot listen to a reader who has no feeling for the subject. Had this audio version been read by Chris Germer himself, it would have sold by the millions more, and consequently, many more people would have been helped.

Historia
About 2,500 years ago, Plato wrote a set of dialogues that depict Socrates in conversation. The way Socrates asks questions, and the reasons why, amount to a whole way of thinking. This is the Socratic method - one of humanity’s great achievements. More than a technique, the method is an ethic of patience, inquiry, humility, and doubt. It is an aid to better thinking, and a remedy for bad habits of mind, whether in law, politics, the classroom, or tackling life’s big questions at the kitchen table.

Hmmm, something doesn't seem right.
Revisado: 01-26-22
Takes a long time to get to the point, but that might be due to the 'reader'. The voice has the staccato and blandness of a computer generated voice. I lose interest very fast when hearing this kind of reading, the mirror repetition of words that sounds like the person talking doesn't know the subject at all.

This is an awesome therapeutic listening experience, I'm glad it's so long. I take it slow, easy, and repeat. I've been listening to Sharon and others for 20 years, feel like I should be further ahead, but that's just my own inner critic. This is a very helpful listen.
