Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

I absolutely cannot get enough of these characters. I re-listened to the whole series 3x in 2 months. The narrator is spot-on and the writing is whimsical and engaging. I find the leveling believable and the AI in the book makes me literally lol while listening. It's rare for a book to have that effect on me, so I'm basically frothing at the mouth waiting for the next installment.

One bubble. Four castles. Fifteen days. Capture each one, and the stairwell is unlocked. Here's the thing. It's never easy. Carl and his team can't go it alone. Not this time. They must rely on the help of the low-level, I-can't-believe-these-idiots-are-still-alive crawlers trapped in the bubble with them. But can they be trusted?

Personal politics kills the story
Revisado: 07-07-21
I have no idea why there are repeated mentions of Trump in this book but it completely ruins the flow of an otherwise gripping story. One second you're in a fantasy world following the protagonist on a harrowing journey... the next moment characters are complaining about the recent presidency. It shows the author has a lot of personal hangups and made it hard to read.

Historia
For thousands of years, there has been a cycle: a Demon King rises and conquers, and a Hero is reborn a hundred years later to defeat him. Each time, civilizations are ground to dust beneath the Demon King's hordes, but humanity has remained secure in the belief that a Hero of legend will always save them. There's just one slight problem. It's only been 23 years since the Demon King's latest rise, and this time, he's already conquered more than half the world. If humanity simply waits for the Hero's return, there may be no world left for him to save.

Revisado: 06-21-20
I didn't know what to expect when I started this freebie book, but i completely loved it. I don't get to play a lot of video games but this was essentially a first person account of growing up in a world where you becomes a video game hero. Voice overs and all. I can't wait to read it again! Definitely looking into more of this author now.

First world problems.
Revisado: 05-10-20
Normally I really like Spaldings quirky protagonists and silly adventures. I felt the protagonist with this book really didn't seem to struggle with the challenge of "logging off" except for getting lost without a GPS. He called himself an addict, but then forgot to show any ongoing struggles with the addiction throughout the store. It came off as "Oh yeah, I should throw a line in hear about how he's struggling" instead of FEELING like an ongoing struggle. Also there was this weird meta thing where all the characters from his other books made a cameo? Probably won't re-read this one.

Historia
In January 2019, culture writer Anne Helen Petersen set the internet on fire with her viral BuzzFeed essay diagnosing “millennial burnout” - a chronic state of stress and exhaustion that’s become a “base temperature” for young people today. Now, she continues this generation-defining conversation in a brand-new format, interviewing millennials around the country about their own deeply personal experiences with burnout, and the culture that creates it.

Author writes with a clear strong left bias. Doesn't present any alternate views beyond the mainstream media stereotype. Didn't find this educational or engaging. It was like listening to two hours of self-important ego stroking.

Historia
When 15-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder - much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing, not even a smear of blood, to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

Really weird descriptions
Revisado: 10-06-13
Would you try another book from Cassandra Clare and/or Ari Graynor?
No
What do you think your next listen will be?
My life as a White Trash Zombie.
What aspect of Ari Graynor’s performance would you have changed?
Good voice, well-paced. Just a weird story.
Was City of Bones worth the listening time?
No
Any additional comments?
There were strange phrases littered throughout the narrative that kept puling me out of the story. "the wolf's lips pulled back and his tongue lolled as it bared its teeth and let out a low growl." How can the tongue be lolling in this scenario??? "with one motion, he slipped the blade back into it's sheath, sticky with blood." So it's sticky, but it slides easily? I found it confusing time and time again.

Life couldn’t be better…until Andrew begins to pick up on the facts that (1) every Away Mission involves some kind of lethal confrontation with alien forces; (2) the ship’s captain, its chief science officer, and the handsome Lieutenant Kerensky always survive these confrontations; and (3) at least one low-ranked crew member is, sadly, always killed.

Historia
For Gwen Merchant, love has always been doled out in little packets - from her father, who buried himself in work after her mother's death, and from her husband, Peter, who's always been respectable and safe. But then an old college boyfriend, the irrepressible Elliot Hull, invites himself back into Gwen's life with a surprising proposition. Elliot, it turns out, is in need of a pretend wife, just for the weekend, in order to fulfill his dying mother's last wish.

Sleepy
Revisado: 02-08-13
Would you try another book from Bridget Asher and/or Carrington MacDuffie?
Carrington MacDuffie's voice droned on so slowly, I actually had to put my iPod on double-time just to get through the rambling internal debates and baggage the main character was struggling with. I would avoid future books with her narrating.
What aspect of Carrington MacDuffie’s performance would you have changed?
Be alive! She sounded like Ben Stein at times!
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Irritation. I loathe books where you're supposed to sympathize with the protagonist for being an adulterer. I feel like the author "bailed out" the protagonist; for some reason when the protagonist discovers that her husband "cheated first" her indiscretions were all justified and she becomes the victim. Wtf. Seriously.
Any additional comments?
Try "The Undomestic Goddess" if you want a fun bait-and-switch story.
