Good story if you like Crime Fiction
Revisado: 05-19-24
It was a very good story, but Audible mis-categorized it as True Crime. It took me awhile to realize it, so I went ahead and finished listening. Again, it was an enjoyable listen, but I don’t do fiction. 😕

China is killing Americans and working aggressively to maximize the carnage while our leaders remain passive and, in some cases, compliant. Why? If anyone could crack the code, it’s the renowned nonpartisan investigator Peter Schweizer. Schweizer’s previous three number one New York Times bestsellers sent shock waves through official Washington, sparking FBI investigations and congressional probes that continue to this day.

We’re in trouble…
Revisado: 03-16-24
I wish I could hand this out to everyone I meet. I already knew a lot of what was covered, but I definitely learned a lot more and it’s truly terrifying. If we don’t do something soon, America will fall. People who feel this is hyperbole or impossible need to start with this book, and then DO THE RESEARCH!!! The facts are out there if you just look for it yourself. Too many rely on news or social media sources for information, but those sources ALL have an agenda…as this book clearly exposes. We all must learn to be skeptical and start asking hard questions, even of ourselves.

It was the final test. A chance to win not only the love of Allah, but the love of her father - something she had never been able to earn. Esther took a deep breath and raised her hand in the air. At the age of 18, she had just volunteered to become a suicide bomber. Defying Jihad is the true story of a girl growing up under radical Islamic rule, trained to believe her ultimate purpose was to serve Allah by dying as a jihadist. But two nights before she was to leave forever, she had a dream...one that would change the course of her destiny.

Historia
On September 28, 2000, former Indiana state trooper David Camm made a frantic call to his former colleagues in the state troopers office: He had just walked into his garage and found lying on the floor the bodies of his 35-year-old wife Kim and their two children Brad and Jill, ages seven and five. Three days later, things got worse when police arrested David Camm for the triple murder. Soon new stories started emerging about mistresses and violent bursts of temper.

It was a good, in depth telling of this unbelievable story. I agree with another reviewer that I’ll need to do some follow up research since it ends in 05.

Narrator…UGH!!!
Revisado: 08-19-23
This is the 2nd Phelps book I’ve listened to at 2x speed. It makes the narrator a bit less cringeworthy. WHY does he use the voice inflections he does. It’s AWFUL!!! William…coach your narrator or get a new one!
I agree with other reviewers that it was a little drawn out. However, it was an interesting story and one I hadn’t heard before.

Historia
Iowa housewife Tracey Pittman Roberts seemed to have it all: natural beauty, three loving children, and a fairy-tale second marriage to a wealthy, handsome businessman. But beneath the happy façade was a woman who used lies, manipulation, sex, ugly allegations, blackmail - and even murder - to serve her own selfish ends. In 2001, police rushed to Tracey's home after a shooting left her vulnerable young neighbor dead. Tracey claimed it was an act of self-defense. Nine gunshot wounds - and a decades-long trail of extortion and fraud - said otherwise.

Repetitive & Difficult to Finish
Revisado: 07-18-23
The narrator’s imitations of voices was awful. Especially when a single word or two of a quote was imitated. Would have been fine narration if he’d have just read it. Drawn out story that could have been half as long.

I know these types of horrific things happen. And I’m sure the author went through something unimaginable. However, as other reviewers have pointed out, there are so many inconsistencies it makes it difficult to discern what is true, exaggerated, or just misremembered. Unfortunately, for me, this made it difficult to get through. And the end was very hard to believe. That said, I’m so sorry that ANY of the things in her story happened to her.

Well Worth 1 Credit!!!
Revisado: 01-06-23
Excellent! I’ve been listening to True Crime for years. I thought I’d heard all there were, but I was excited to realize this book had many I wasn’t familiar with. Even those stories I did know, I enjoyed the extensive detail of the stories in this book that you can’t get in a 60 minute podcast.
Narrator did a fantastic job. I listened at 1.1 speed and it was perfect!
Great job to both author and narrator!
Thanks!
