Historia
The mutiny on HMS Bounty, in the South Pacific on 28 April 1789, is one of history's truly great stories - a tale of human drama, intrigue and adventure of the highest order - and in the hands of Peter FitzSimons it comes to life as never before. Commissioned by the Royal Navy to collect breadfruit plants from Tahiti and take them to the West Indies, the Bounty's crew found themselves in a tropical paradise. Five months later, they did not want to leave.

Historia
On July 12th, 1776, Captain James Cook, already lionized as the greatest explorer in British history, set off on his third voyage in his ship the HMS Resolution. Two-and-a-half years later, on a beach on the island of Hawaii, Cook was killed in a conflict with native Hawaiians. How did Cook, who was unique among captains for his respect for Indigenous peoples and cultures, come to that fatal moment? Hampton Sides’ bravura account of Cook’s last journey both wrestles with Cook’s legacy and provides a thrilling narrative of the titanic efforts and continual danger that characterized exploration.

Historia
In April 1944, Rudolf Vrba became one of the very first Jews to escape from Auschwitz and make his way to freedom—among only a tiny handful who ever pulled off that near-impossible feat. He did it to reveal the truth of the death camp to the world—and to warn the last Jews of Europe what fate awaited them. Against all odds, Vrba and his fellow escapee, Fred Wetzler, climbed mountains, crossed rivers, and narrowly missed German bullets until they had smuggled out the first full account of Auschwitz the world had ever seen.

Historia
World War II tail gunner Gene Moran fell four miles through the sky without a parachute and lived. Captured by the Germans, he survived a harrowing eighteen months as a prisoner of war, including a six-hundred-mile death march in 1945 across Central Europe. When Gene returned home, he kept those memories locked up for nearly seventy years. His nine children knew little of their dad's war story. But when John, a young history teacher, learns of Gene's amazing fall, he's desperate to learn more. Finally, Gene agrees.

WOW
Revisado: 04-06-24
As a formal naval aviator and World War II history buff with a personal connection through one of my bartenders, Swedo, whose great uncle is a character in this book, "Tailspin" by John Armbuster holds a special significance for me. Being an avid consumer of Audible, especially focused on World War II history, I can confidently say that this is the best World War II history book I’ve ever listened to.
"Tailspin" delves into the remarkable tales of heroism and resilience exhibited by Eugene and his crew, many of whom were in their late teens at the time. Armbuster's narrative not only captures the courage displayed in the air, but also the indomitable spirit of those who fought. What makes this book even more compelling is the incredible journey of the author himself, which parallels the astonishing events he describes.
From the moment I started listening, I found myself captivated, unable to tear myself away. In fact, I would go so far as to say that this is the best audiobook I’ve ever experienced, and the fact that I have a personal connection through Swedo adds an extra layer of resonance to the already gripping narrative.
update 3/19/25... last night I attended a book talk by John Armbruster, and had dinner with John, his fiancé and Christopher Swedo, who is the great nephew of the waist gunner. John's Knowledge of Gene's amazing story, as well as the rest of the crew is remarkable. John has devoted his life to this story. The audience was captivated by John knowledge of all his facts and exactly what happened, he also played several interviews that he made with Gene, over the many years, he interviewed him. This book should be a movie and is a gripping tail of heroism made by many young heroes at the height of losses for the mighty eight Air Force

Historia
Seventy years ago, Joe Rubinstein walked out of a Nazi concentration camp. Until now, his story has been hidden from the world. Shortly before dawn on a frigid morning in Radom, Poland, 21-year-old Joe answered a knock at the door of the cottage he shared with his widowed mother and siblings. German soldiers forced him onto a crowded open-air truck. Wearing only an undershirt and shorts, Joe was left on the truck with no protection from the cold. By the next morning, several around him would be dead. From there, things got worse for young Joe, much worse.

Historia
The 29-day battle to liberate Manila resulted in the catastrophic destruction of the city and a rampage by Japanese forces that brutalized the civilian population. Landmarks were demolished, houses were torched, suspected resistance fighters were tortured and killed, countless women were raped, and their husbands and children were murdered. American troops had no choice but to battle the enemy, floor by floor and even room by room, through schools, hospitals, and even sports stadiums. In the end, an estimated 100,000 civilians lost their lives in the massacre.

Historia
In 2021 cryptocurrency went mainstream. Giant investment funds were buying it, celebrities like Tom Brady endorsed it, and TV ads hailed it as the future of money. Hardly anyone knew how it worked—but why bother with the particulars when everyone was making a fortune from Dogecoin, Shiba Inu, or some other bizarrely named “digital asset”? As he observed this frenzy, investigative reporter Zeke Faux had a nagging question: Was it all just a confidence game of epic proportions? What started as curiosity—with a dash of FOMO—would morph into a two-year globe-spanning quest.

Excellent read and front row seat to Crypto’s rise and fall
Revisado: 09-16-23
5/5: I read the author’s snippet from the book on Bloomberg / Business Week a few weeks ago and pre-ordered the audio version.
The book was fascinating. Zeke, the author, had a front row seat to SBF’s rise and fall in addition to Tether and other major players in the space. It was so fun learning more about crypto as I hardly knew most of these players and how much money was being made and lost. The author was at The famed Ape party and was fascinating learning how hard some of the crypto’s are to buy and sell and that a lot of the trading was insiders trading back and forth.
The narrator was also excellent and I listened to the whole book in 2 days - could not stop listening.
Definitely download and listen.

Historia
Beginning on August 17, 1942, American heavy bomber crews of the Eighth Air Force took off for combat in the hostile skies over occupied Europe. The final price was staggering. 4,300 B-17s and B-24s failed to return; nearly 21,000 men were taken prisoner or interned in a neutral country, and a further 17,650 made the ultimate sacrifice. Luck of the Draw is more than a war story. It’s the incredible, inspiring story of Frank Murphy, one of the few survivors from the 100th Bombardment Group, who cheated death for months in a German POW camp.

one of the best
Revisado: 03-22-23
I was working our about a month ago & watching a Sunday AM news program, and Chloe was talking about the book, so I bought it. I'm a former USCG Pilot. I have read many WW2 books. This is one of the best. Reads like a novel, and I could not put it down. I have immense respect for the kids that flew these planes. The life expectancy odds were against these kids. The greatest generation is almost gone, yet you get a first hand account of what it was like. BTW. I always wondered how the crew got into the planes, Frank tells us how he did it. Special thank you to EM and CM for publishing this...thank you

Historia
In Carrying the Fire, Michael Collins conveys, in a very personal way, the drama, beauty, and humor of the adventure of reaching the moon. He also traces his development from his first flight experiences in the air force, through his days as a test pilot, to his Apollo 11 spacewalk, presenting an evocative description of the joys of flight as well as a new perspective on time, light, and movement from someone who has seen the fragile Earth from the other side of the moon.
