Historia
Chrissie Hynde, the songwriter and front woman of The Pretenders in its various incarnations, has for 35 years been one of the most admired and adored and imitated figures in rock. This long-awaited memoir tells her life story in full and utterly fascinating detail, from her all-American Ohio '50s childhood to her classic baby-boomer seduction by the rock of the '60s to her sojourn in the crucible of punk that was '70s London to her instant emergence with her band, The Pretenders, in 1980 into stardom as a frontwoman and songwriter.

Insightful and well done
Revisado: 03-12-25
Arquette read the text great. Gave new perspective on the lyrics to the songs. Now I know a lot of intimate details about Chrissy Hynde’s life and find her to be a very interesting person. Her words came through with a clear punk rock ethos but she also admitted deep down to loving The Kinks and The Beatles. She always had a vision for her music and I respect that and appreciate knowing her story. Only thing that wasn’t there was intimate details of her life with Ray Davies and Jim Kerr, but that’s probably best for the sake of the families not wanting to know about stuff like that. Understandable. All around: Nicely done and recommended for any Pretenders fan. Rock on!

Historia
A self-centered healer, Stephen Strange is arrogant, but it's almost justified. After all, he is one of the best surgeons in the country. However, that all takes a dark turn following a horrific car crash. The doctor survives but at a great cost: his hands are irreparably damaged, and he can no longer perform surgery. No doctor can help him. Nor can faith healers or gurus. Nearing the end of his rope, he seeks out mystic help from the Ancient One, a man rumoured to possess unearthly talents.

A riveting retelling of Lee & Ditko’s classics!
Revisado: 05-02-24
A fun prose novel adaption of Strange Tales #110, 111, 114-146 and Amazing Spider-Man Annual #2. Great descriptions of the classic panels. Wish there wasn’t the obvious but not obvious political nod in the introduction (and in the adaptation of Doc’s first appearance no less! Sacrilege!) Very entertaining listen and thumbs up.

Historia
In addition to being among the most celebrated of contemporary filmmakers, Quentin Tarantino is possibly the most joyously infectious movie lover alive. For years he has touted in interviews his eventual turn to writing books about films. Now, with Cinema Speculation, the time has come, and the results are everything his passionate fans—and all movie lovers—could have hoped for. Organized around key American films from the 1970s, all of which he first saw as a young moviegoer at the time, this book is as intellectually rigorous and insightful as it is rollicking and entertaining.

One moment a man sits on a suburban hill, gazing curiously at the stars. The next, he is whirling through the firmament, and perhaps the most remarkable of all science fiction journeys has begun. Even Stapledon's other great work, 'Last and First Men' pales in ambition next to 'Star Maker' which presents nothing less than an entire imagined history of life in the universe, encompassing billions of years.

In depth and fascinating
Revisado: 10-12-19
Great series of lectures. I learned a lot and was impressed with the depth of research presented here. Professor Spence untangles the interconnected web of complexity within the history of various secret societies and presents an objective viewpoint in separating fact from fiction. He also explores when the line between what is true and false seems to blur. Thought provoking and compelling.

An early architect of punk rock's sound, style, and fury, whose lip-curling sneer and fist-pumping persona vaulted him into pop's mainstream as one of MTV's first megastars, Billy Idol remains, to this day, a true rock 'n' roll icon. Now, in his long-awaited autobiography, Dancing with Myself, Idol delivers an electric, searingly honest account of his journey to fame - from his early days as front man of the pioneering UK punk band Generation X to the decadent life atop the dance-rock kingdom he ruled.

Burt should get an Oscar for this Audibook
Revisado: 01-28-16
What did you love best about But Enough About Me?
To not only get Burt Reynold's words in his book into your head but his voice as well... One of his finest performances. Whatever you may think of Reynolds, who proved his acting chops in Deliverance, The Longest Yard, and Boogie Nights as well as his comedy performances as guest host of the Tonight Show and the Smokey and The Bandit movies, this book goes much deeper. Using every chapter as a miniature biography, it's like Burt's own Wikipedia page on legends of screen, sports, stage, and television. Who else but Burt could tell you intimate stories and asides from the likes of Spencer Tracy, Betty Davis, Lee Marvin, the Rat Pack, and others of Hollywood's Golden age? He even went up to Mae West's room one night! (SPOILER ALERT!) Some things are glossed over, and Burt gets notably angry when discussing tabloids or certain people from his past, but that's what makes this audiobook so human. We get a portrait of the man and see both his ego and his weaknesses in what convinced me was his honest assessment of the truth. I never caught him acting, and when he gets emotional bringing up dear departed friends like Dom DeLuise and DInah Shore, you get choked up right with him. If Paul Thomas Anderson and Archer made Burt cool again, the only thing for me that would blow it would be if the book got into religion or politics, which are always left on the sidelines in this book. I think that's classy. Burt's knowledge of the acting process is interesting as well so this is a great book for actors. A great listen.
