Narrator’s voice took away from the story.
Revisado: 04-22-25
The protagonist is 27, the narrator sounds much older. This took away from the story for me, as well as the way she “reads” the story. The story overall was pretty good.

Historia
Addie's getting into the spirit for the upcoming Charity Auction - especially since she's got an 1843 copy of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol to donate. Her former colleagues at the Boston Public Library have confirmed that its worth runs toward the high five figures, which should help with the new pediatric wing. Her mood darkens, though, when a visitor from the past appears - Jonathan Hemingway, the father of her late fiance. His presence stirs up sad memories for Addie, but also has her fuming when Jonathan runs off for a lunchtime liaison with Teresa Lang.

The main character😑😵💫
Revisado: 01-29-25
This is the second book in this series I read, actually I only made it to chapter 9, hoping the protagonist would have a more developed character in the second book. It’s a good storyline but Addie is not a very kind woman, she comes across as small minded, emotionally immature and petty unless she likes you. Too much time spent hating on some of the characters. I had hoped to enjoy the series but I can’t get past Addie.

Don’t waste your money on the audio version!
Revisado: 09-21-24
I borrowed the book and then decided to purchase the audible version. It wasn’t expensive but still a waste of money. I didn’t realize it was AI read and not an actual person reading the story. I’ve listened or tried to listen to 2 other AI audible versions and I just can’t. I started Chapter 2 and just couldn’t suffer through it any longer.
I didn’t give the story full stars, only because I haven’t read it yet. I will be reading the book and I think it’s going to be a cute, cozy mystery but hard to tell because I was so distracted by the robotic reading of the first chapter.

Used sex to sale the story
Revisado: 12-16-23
Enjoyed the first book, made it through the second, couldn’t finish the third. Yes, it’s spicy but that gets redundant. Abby seems to be regressing instead of growing as a character. She jumps into sexual and social situations as if she had the brain of a teenager. Her mother is a narcissist, Jed and his family aren’t far behind Abby’s mom. Abby’s dad seems to be coming around but not much of a backbone.
This could have been a really good series but the author has turned it into explicit sexual scenarios and less story.

After a devastating loss, Brynn Wilder escapes to Wharton, a tourist town on Lake Superior, to reset, and checks into a quaint boardinghouse. In her fellow lodgers, she finds a friendly company of strangers: the frail Alice, cared for by a married couple with a heartbreaking story of their own; LuAnn, the eccentric and lovable owner of the inn; and Dominic, an unsettlingly handsome man inked from head to toe in mesmerizing tattoos. But in this inviting refuge, a mystery begins to swirl. Alice knows things about Brynn, about all of them, that she shouldn’t.

Wow…just WOW!
Revisado: 02-04-23
This is the 2nd Wendy Webb book I have read and it is the best! Fascinating characters and storyline and how the characters are all intertwined and woven together. I would think I had it figured out and did somewhat, but other nuances were added to keep the listener immersed in the story and wanting more.

This one seemed to drag on…
Revisado: 01-21-23
Maybe it was just me but it seemed to take longer than necessary to get through this book. New characters, like Josh are introduced that will probably be around more, the visitors turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Nice ending. Not sure I will read the next one.

Ghost Love Relationship….really?
Revisado: 07-03-22
The story started out well and I thought it was going to continue as such until she started falling for the ghost. Friendship, confident, ok I can see that but a love relationship, no, too weird. If she keeps going like that she is going to become a recluse locked inside her huge home. There was so much more they could have been done to develop the other characters that will be throughout other stories due to them being residents of Salem and a part of her life.
I was considering reading the next one but the very ending of this one changed that.

The Ruin….it’s the ruin of more than you realize…
Revisado: 04-17-22
The performance by Aoife McMahon was wonderful and what kept me listening to the entire book. The book is interesting and well written but is not what I expected. While the author gives in-depth insights into each character and their thoughts/actions, it was a dark story, more than I expected. If knowing this going in I feel I would have appreciated the novel more.
