Historia
UrbanMyth: It was lauded as an alternative to the performative, show-your-best-self platforms—an anonymous discussion board grouped by zip code. The residents of Manhattan’s exclusive Upper East Side disclosed it all, things they would never share with their friends or their spouses: secret bank accounts, steamy affairs, tidbits of juicy gossip. So when a “hacktivist” group breaks into the forum and exposes the real identity of each poster, the repercussions echo down Park Avenue with a force that none could have anticipated.

Save your money or credit
Revisado: 08-07-24
This story, of course, is a continuation of The Summer of 69. It feels like an unfinished book. It gives a quick update on the characters and that’s it. It goes into each character’s issue with no real resolution. It’s like Elin gave up and said, “I’m just going to release this as a short story and move on.”

Rape & Domestic Violence Trigger Warning
Revisado: 06-25-24
I love Jude Deveraux books and this is the 1st one to ever get a bad review for me. I’ve probably listened to at least 25 and to be fair, up until now I’ve only listened to books she wrote from 2000 to present. She wrote this one in 1981. I don’t like how an abusive husband who rapes his wife ends up being so loved. I know that may have been the norm based on the time period the story was written but the men in the book so freely hit women so if that triggers you don’t get this book. The sex scenes were over done and could have had 2-3 fewer episodes.

Well Written
Revisado: 12-10-23
This book was well written and kept me engaged. I believe I went through every emotion. The only thing I didn’t like was the constant use of the “N” word. I understood the time in history and context but hearing it over and over, especially from a white racist character, almost made me return the book.

Painfully Slow
Revisado: 12-01-23
First, the author’s explanation of the plot should have been at the start of the book instead of after. The book was so slow and honestly could have been a few chapters less. The end was “blah” but maybe it is a cliffhanger for a sequel. I almost returned it but since this was a debut I didn’t. Perhaps the author will improve. The actor did a great job though.

Historia
Heath Holiday. My crush on him has ebbed and flowed over the years, but the day I started working for his construction company was the day I smothered it for good. Sort of. Mostly. It was on my to-do list. Making it a priority would have been easier had he not arrived at his family’s annual Christmas party looking ridiculously handsome in a suit. Then he kissed me. We stepped into an alternate universe and he kissed me.

It was okay
Revisado: 11-09-23
This book was okay. I liked the 1st one better. The female narrator isn’t great with her male voices. She made the brother (Guy) sound like a 1940s gangster. Also, there could have been 1 or 2 less sexual encounters. But, at least it was included in the membership.

So Inclusive
Revisado: 07-09-23
I just love how inclusive Elin Hilderbrand is in her writing. As a black woman, it is rare to be represented in fiction not written by a black author. There were so many references I appreciated and I love that she made the black characters successful. I’ve listened to this book twice.

While this book has an unexpected twist it took entirely too long to get to the point. I considered simply googling to figure out what happened because it was just soooooooo slow.

Historia
Olivia Jones, hard-working and accomplished, has, against the odds, blazed an enviable career path in the finance world. But behind the veneer of her success, she is mourning several devastating losses and betrayals. Untethered from her life in New York City, Olivia moves to a summer home in The Hamptons. Here, Olivia finds a close-knit community of African American elites who escape New York City for the beautiful beaches of the Hamptons. Since the 1930s, very few have known about this Historically Black Beachfront Community, and the residents like it that way.

Great Book 2
Revisado: 05-04-23
I really enjoyed this book. It was a great follow up to book one with a couple of unexpected twists. The only thing I wish I would have seen was a dark skinned woman on the cover…especially since this book focused on Olivia who is dark skinned and very self conscious and hyper focused on it. To not make the woman on the cover dark skinned, in my opinion, continues to feed into the stereotype that dark isn’t beautiful. It, to me, conveys that marketing didn’t think the book would sell as well.
