Historia
Hundreds of years after the end of the world, the Appalachian community of Iron Hollow finds itself beset by demons. Such horrors are common these days in the outlands, where most folks die young—if they don’t turn into monsters first. When a legendary knight is summoned to hunt down the latest unearthly beast to haunt their woods, the town’s new oral historian, Shrike, has more reason than most to be concerned. Because that demon was her wife. And while Shrike is certain that May still recognizes her—that May is still herself, somewhere beneath it all—she can’t prove it.

Good KJ Charles
Revisado: 11-03-24
The story was good; one of KJ Charles' best. The story was funny and interesting. However, the sound wasn't as good as usual. Many of the sentences were cut off on the last word. It was annoying.

Historia
A Secret Service operative and dedicated survivalist, Special Agent Del Roosevelt had a plan for every world-ending scenario and regularly trained for them all. He was even ready for a date with the hottest woman in his office next Friday. At least he hoped so. But all that training, all those rations, all that prepping? Useless for the apocalypse that actually played out. Del wakes up half-buried in a giant trash pile, missing his thumbs. And, um, covered in red fur. He's stuck in a world of fuzzy monsters, senseless violence, and cult-like crusaders.

Weird and Wonderful
Revisado: 09-20-24
This had to be one of the strangest LitRPG books I've ever read. Imagine falling from Earth into a land of carnivorous Muppets who live in an enormous trash pile in the basement of a wizard's castle. Del, our newest Muppet must survive the horrors of the trash heap and try to escape back to Earth.
This book was funny, highly imaginative, and had a great plot. I am looking forward to book number 2. I would imagine that this series is going to have a number of books in it, given Ugland's penchant for long series. This should be fun!

Fred Trump and his destruction of Mary Trump's family
Revisado: 09-14-24
This book is about Mary's trauma and how it came about. She does a very good job explaining the abuse she received from every member of her family. The Trump family was and is so very toxic. Fred Trump, her grandfather, had total, sadistic control over the family. Everyone jumped to Fred's tune, or else Fred destroyed them. Thus, Mary's father, who could not measure up to Fred's evil ideas of a man, was crushed by the entire family at the behest of Fred. Donald was then raised to the position of the golden child because he was just as evil as his father and stupid enough to do whatever Fred wanted. Mary, her mother, and her brother took on the burden of the family's hatred once Mary's father died.
For some reason, her mother was equally abusive. Whether it was due to her divorce from Mary's dad or if she would have always been abusive, I don't know. Regardless, Mary's mom was unbelievably cruel to Mary throughout Mary's life.
Mary had no chance for a healthy foundation to her personality. She received no love, no sense of safety, and no approbation from her family. Thus, she grew up feeling unloved, unwanted, and unlovable - even to herself. Luckily, as she has aged, she has turned toward her own therapy and her writing as a way to deal with the serious mental and emotional trauma heaped on her throughout her life. Hopefully, she will find peace within herself.

Historia
Lies with a Straight Face tells the fascinating story of the precipitous rise and fall of the “ex-gay” conversion industry in a manner that is both enlightening and entertaining. This fast-moving, fact-based book is perfect for those who enjoy the marriage of politics, history and current events. The book features the riveting story of the 1998 Truth in Love ad campaign, where the religious right’s most prominent organizations joined forces to prove that LGBTQ people could be converted to heterosexuality through prayer and therapy.

Good information but less than normal sound quality
Revisado: 09-07-24
The information presented was quite good. However, the author read his own book. It took awhile to get used to his strident tone while speaking. In addition, the author sounded like he was reading his book from his bathroom. The audio quality was quite echoey. This, also, could be ignored after listening for awhile. I wish he had read his book more calmly and in a much better sound booth. Regardless, the information provided was well researched, and it was quite obvious that the author cared deeply about the subject. I really do recommended this book for those interested in the horrifying practice of LGBTQ reparative therapy.

Weird
Revisado: 08-10-24
This book was read by Virtual Voice, an AI reader. It was only ok. Some pronunciations were odd, and the there was the acting one expects from Audible.
The book was tiny. It was a short story explaining how two religious families dealt with the new LGBTQ curriculum at their Middle School and how the parents' behaviors affected their kids.

Publicly, the girls are close friends—holding hands in prayer, rooming together at a conference. Privately, they grasp at any chance to continue their forbidden romance—until they are found out. Now, Valerie must choose between staying with a family she fears will never accept her, or running away with the girl she loves.

Revisado: 06-05-24
A truly good book. This is something every queer kid needs. Although the book covers painful topics, especially religious trauma and family trauma, but the main character, Valerie, works to get free. This is a book about self-love and looking for found family. It is kindness in a world that, at times, can be cruel to queer kids.

A very good Lovecraftian novel
Revisado: 05-02-24
This was a very good Lovecraftian style story. Diggory, the MC, has quite a few problems. He is autistic and anxious. His parents were barely tolerable, and suddenly, he found himself the inheritor of his grandmother's house and fortune. Too bad this inheritance came with a secretive town in which really weird incidents are happening. Was Diggory the reason why? As he tried to find the truth with the help of a town librarian, what started out as little incidents turned into a nightmare. This was a fun book. However, I did take off a star because it didn't end. It's book one a what looks to be a trilogy. Therefore, many of the answers I was hoping for were not divulged in this book. But I will continue on to find out what happens.

Weird but good
Revisado: 02-05-24
In some ways this was a painful book. Our MC, Milo, is very religious, and he has to come to terms with being gay. The utter anxiety Milo has is difficult to listen to. He is so very afraid of God and of society judging him. But the book has a happy ending. Milo learns to have courage within his cognitive dissonance. And it the end, that makes the book hopeful and happy.

Historia
Anisa Ellahi dreams of being a translator of “great works of literature,” but instead mostly spends her days subtitling Bollywood movies, living off her parents’ generous allowance, and discussing the “underside of life” with her best friend, Naima. Anisa’s mediocre white boyfriend, Adam, only adds to her growing sense of inadequacy with his savant-level aptitude for languages, successfully leveraging his expansive knowledge into an enviable career. But when Adam learns to speak Urdu with native fluency practically overnight, Anisa forces him to reveal his secret.

Great book
Revisado: 11-11-23
This is a very complex, slow burning mystery, though maybe mystery is not quite right. It really is an analysis of women, who they are and want to be, and also about race and culture, what is lost when you leave a place versus what might be gained. much of the book looks at cultural appropriations through romantic relationships, literature, and the learning of language. There is so much in the book to feast on; many ideas to reflect upon. I truly loved this book until the very end, because it didn't end. The book just stopped. Boom. And I am left confused.
