If you endured through the first book hoping to get a payoff in this one, I'm sorry to say you won't get it. At least, not a payoff worth the effort.
This series sets up some really interesting ideas and mind-game scenarios. But it also wastes a lot of your time with plot points that don't live up to their potential or are rendered pointless.
I don't understand how this series is so successful. It must be solely off of the SciFi fans' love of novel concepts. But you gotta have plot and characters worth a damn for a compelling story. The author should have just written an essay or reddit post.

This final book in the Apocalypse Tamer series felt like the Avengers of Durrand's works so far, a satisfying conclusion to not only its own story but a narrative built up over several series.
It's not perfect, feeling a little rushed to the finish line compared to the other books with some major characters not getting to be fleshed-out as much as they probably warranted (I'm looking at you Unity Leader).
But, it's evident Durand had a clear plan and executed many wonderful narrative pay offs.

No story is perfect, so the question for every story becomes "do the flaws that exist ruin the enjoyment the story gives?" Luckily for this story and this entry, I feel that is not the case. I see many complain about the political messages in the story and I must agree they are a major flaw that dates and divides a tale that has so far been accessible to everyone. BUT, this flaw only rears its ugly head at the very beginning and takes maybe less than an hour out of a 60+ hour experience.
Overall, this story is continuing to be fulfilling, with a few random "soap box" moments thrown in at the beginning.

Great tale, not a love story

This story was enthralling, with a main character that is a far cry from the typical "chosen one" or "young aspiring hero" archetypes. The only issue I can find in this story is audible and even other reader's insistence on it being a romance story! This story is a romance in the same way Lord of the Rings is about border disputes. The argument can be made that the plot has it in there, but it is hardly, if at all, the focus of the narrative. It is because of this that I was disappointed in how the "romance" turned out because it was not nearly developed enough to be considered a selling point. However, if you are looking for a compelling story about gods, people and the twisted threads of fate, you'll be more than satisfied with this novel!

An entertaining history lesson

The main character and setting are interesting, but the protagonist faces barely any meaningful conflict.
Sure, Mire faces adversity and prejudice, but most of it either resolves itself or only requires a bit of effort on his part to be resolved. I am not saying that every hero or heroine must slay dragons or conquer civilizations to make their struggles worthwhile, but when a story sets your expectations for how difficult a task should be, you expect a certain amount of work and action to overcome it. Otherwise, the triumph falls short.
This does not mean that the conflicts that Mire faces throughout this story are not compelling. Addison makes the political games entertaining, and the new King has strengths and weaknesses that develop as the tale progresses. But if you're expecting a high-drama, page-turner that leaves you in crushing suspense for how the hero is going to come out on top, you will not find it here.

Krout delivers another entertaining entry to this series, but it seems the stress of deadlines shows. I can't say that I fully understand Krout's work load or how Audible handles it's partnerships with authors of long series, but I have seen other series rushed in the past on this platform.
The first 2/3s of this story feel like the typical smooth plot development that I've come to respect about this series. However, the last third of this story (around where the Climax starts) feels rushed and yet slow at the same time. Certain scenes seem to be left out while other less plot-relevant scenes are included at times that don't feel necessary. The development of certain characters and relationships come out of nowhere and it honestly felt like Krout was trying to rush the entire series to a completion, only to leave things on a cliff hangar.
I still love this series and even though I could see many glaring flaws towards the end of this book, they didn't cause the story to become unbearable. If you are a fan of this series then I'm confident you will still like this entry, but I'm fearful that this is a sign of a degrading in quality that I've come to expect of this series and Dakota Krout as an author.

More often than not you find stories that are badly structured but have good elements.

If you want a Space Opera filled to the brim with the action-packed exploits of an immortal man traversing infinite space, you won't find it here. If you want an exploration of the concepts of immortality and what an isolated individual would do with the horrific reality of infinite existence, you'll be slightly satisfied.
