It’s been a long time since I’ve had the pleasure of reading a historical romance. I’ve shied away from the for years now, tired of the tropes and the descriptions of sexual encounters that make about 30% of the book. I understand that it’s hard to create a modern hero and heroine in an historical novel, but this author managed it, and it was excellent. Well worded (I love it when proper exact words are used), well written and without any boring tropes… It’s modern without anachronism, wonderfully without lengthy descriptions of surroundings, furnishings or people’s hair (my pet peeve that last one)… Honest and complex feelings for both the Hero and the Heroine… and (huzzah!) finally, a long-awaited historical romance were love-making is NOT central to the story but a natural expression of their feelings for one another (and not just lust)… that does not happen every time they meet! I have to go buy the rest of this author’s books now!

Sooo… I think the author is really good with banter dialogue but I thought the love story was too perfect and cutesy… Even the ‘super drama’ I saw coming a mile away… And it felt like it was plopped in the story for the sake of adding ‘super drama’ because the relationship story has no oomph… Happy surprise was to find out the hero is the brother of one of my favorite book heroes, sad surprise that although the hero complains his family lives sometimes too close, the ‘family’ is largely absent.

Although depicted as well known experts in their fields, the H+h act like they have no experience, flying off the handle every time something happens. Heroine appears psychologically unstable or too vulnerable to be a psychologist (a psychologist with her own big practice but no psychiatric support for herself?). It also really bugged me that, as a health professional, she would say that ‘giving her virginity’ was ‘the most precious gift a woman could give a man’… I mean… what? wtf? And of course the TSTL moment equal to the horror movie bimbo that runs towards the screams… Skip this one. Needs a good story editor.

Too much sex! I mean like 18-minutes chapters long, about 1/3 from the start… It’s like a step-by-step… Where’s the romance? Nope!

Loved Shay and Pete’s story. I usually hate it when hero and heroine fall in love in a very short time span, but here it worked! I would have preferred if « team-up » with daughter happened ( I was figuring this was where it would go, so I had to adjust and let go), but still very good fun. It’s about time there is as more diversity in romance novels! Yay! Little neg:
Mr.Lawlor’s gravelly voice was good, but it is so unique he cannot easily transform it to fit each character. I had to go back and re-listen a few times because I didn’t know who was speaking anymore. (Although this was exacerbated because I always like to listen while doing something else, and was not so bad that it would make me stop the book.)

Not 5 minutes goes by without porn... I loved loved loved the first book in this series, but sadly this one is all about the characters having sex, or thinking about past sexcapades -in graphic and lengthy details. They talk about love but there is so much sex that I don’t see the intimacy. ***spoilers*** And don’t get me started about her being infertile. She’s been in a sexual relationship with him for 6 (6!) years but her plan is to let him go because he deserves more. She been his best friends since they were kids! As if there was only one way to make a family! When thousands of kids need good loving homes! Makes me so mad! (as the exclamation points might have hinted at...)

I so needed this book! It’s funny, clever, heartfelt, and it made me guffaw and spurt coffee it was so funny. I teared up from joy, too (extended epilogue)... Ultimate favorite book boyfriend and sexy AF! Ladies, be warned: when Marlee has a date with Jake at the bonfire (or in the field, whatever they call it) STOP READING (or listening) until your home, the kids are sleeping, and hubby is available... OMG scorching! So sad the book ended! Would make a GREAT TV SERIEs (if anyone knows anyone).

Ok, this book and series was a guilty pleasure!
Still, some moments or comments were worthy of a few or many eye-rolls, and by the end of the series I was really tired of the author using violence (subjected at heroine) at every turn, with no other written consequence save for a man's rage at failing to protect (even when not in same city) and seeking to give a little TLC which was almost never graciously accepted. And come on! Whatever she gets done to her she takes 2 aspirins and sleeps it off? WTF? At one point in the series she gets run over by a car! Also, the heroine is kinda stupid at times.
And her man is supposed to be a high-ranking political magnate, but is able to start a shoot-out in the middle of the street, using concealed weapons and no one notices? Really? Shouldn't he be busy doing political stuff somewhere? Didn't know governors or senators had so much time on their hands or so much privacy...
Still... even with all the bad, I have to admit the series was addicting. I dunno why I kept going back to it and even read the whole series in a week, loving the last book the best. Yes, even with the eye-roll causing momentary stupidity or tantrums, and too over-bearing (sometimes stupid too) men.
Won't spoil it for you and tell you whom she ends up with...

Would you try another book from Petra Durst-Benning and Samuel Willcocks (translator) and/or Kristin Watson Heintz?

No.

Has The Glassblower turned you off from other books in this genre?

What genre?

Did Kristin Watson Heintz do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Sadly, no.

Do you think The Glassblower needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No.

Any additional comments?

So not for me. I kept forgetting which sister was whom. I could not get into it, I had no care for the heroine and for the life of me could not fathom who the hero was supposed to be. Did not like the whole martyr angle. After a couple of tries, I skipped to the end and "read" the last chapter. And boy was I glad I did not read the whole thing! So sorry for the author for not falling in love with her book! I hate when I don't like someone's work (can't be easy to be an author), but this was too "1980's Harlequin Romance" for me.
