Historia
What’s to be done about a jaywalking moose? A bear caught breaking and entering? A murderous tree? Three hundred years ago, animals that broke the law would be assigned legal representation and put on trial. These days, as New York Times best-selling author Mary Roach discovers, the answers are best found not in jurisprudence but in science: the curious science of human-wildlife conflict, a discipline at the crossroads of human behavior and wildlife biology.

listen to this book and learn
Revisado: 10-23-21
First the author has a terrific sense of humor. Second, she does real research. Third she provides lessons that all of us need to understand. Of course her unstated conclusion is something that I have believed for decades: Mother Nature bats last.

one problem
Revisado: 10-04-21
I've enjoyed all of the Tracy Crosswhite books, but this has one serious flaw, the reliance on lie detector results. Even when this was written, all scientific research had shown that lie detector results are about equal to pure chance chance and that conclusions based on them could easily lead to a case being thrown out as a fruit of a poisoned tree. A different plot device would have served the author better.

Historia
Rotherweird is a twisted, arcane murder-mystery with shades of Deborah Harkness, Hope Mirrlees and Ben Aaronovitch, Mervyn Peake and Edward Gorey at their disturbing best. The town of Rotherweird stands alone - there are no guidebooks, despite the fascinating and diverse architectural styles cramming the narrow streets, the avant-garde science and offbeat customs. Cast adrift from the rest of England by Elizabeth I, Rotherweird's independence is subject to one disturbing condition: nobody, but nobody, studies the town or its history.

Way too long and complicated. Also, the narrator was pretty much a monotone. so, both writing and narration were in desperate need of a strong editing process.

as good as any in the series
Revisado: 06-23-21
The narrator has a superb way of showing the various character's speech patterns. I can only hope that if the authors don't have another book in them, that they end the series now. OTOH, if they can continue to produce narratives giving the flavor of Victorian England, they continue for at least some more novels.

Historia
When novelist Owen Quine goes missing, his wife calls in private detective Cormoran Strike. At first, Mrs. Quine just thinks her husband has gone off by himself for a few days - as he has done before - and she wants Strike to find him and bring him home. But as Strike investigates, he discovers that Quine's disappearance is no coincidence. The novelist has just completed a manuscript featuring poisonous pen-portraits of almost everyone he knows. If the novel were published, it would ruin lives - meaning that almost everyone in his life would have motives to silence him.

I don't know which I liked most, story or performance. once again, Glenister shows himself a master actor. I did really enjoy the story, itself, Characters were well developed and interesting. A better editor could have taken about 2 hours off of the book, but it was worth it.

Historia
Back in 1985, Frank Mackey was a nineteen-year-old kid with a dream of escaping his family's cramped flat on Faithful Place and running away to London with his girl, Rosie Daly. But on the night they were supposed to leave, Rosie didn't show. Frank took it for granted that she'd dumped him-probably because of his alcoholic father, nutcase mother, and generally dysfunctional family. He never went home again. Neither did Rosie. Then, twenty-two years later, Rosie's suitcase shows up.

very interesting first novel
Revisado: 01-03-21
Basically, a fin read, with 2 problems. First, there were so many characters without a great deal of uniqueness, which made for some confusion. Second, there was a problem with the production,in that each chapter seemed to begin at a significantly changed volume than the previous had ended on.
