Returning
Revisado: 08-22-21
I love the premise of this book, but I am returning it. I just can’t get past the narration. Are usually love it when the author is also the one who reads the book, but in this case I feel the book would’ve been so much better if it had been read by a professional reader. Instead of feeling like I was reading this book, I felt like the author was reading the book, which, of course, she was, but it felt as though she were reading it aloud as a student in a classroom. A beautiful narration would really have made this book enjoyable.

Horrible Gong Sound Between Sessions
Revisado: 04-02-20
There is a horrible gong that goes off at the end of every chapter. I like to meditate and when I do, I often drift off into a blissful sleep. The gong wakes me up every time. It’s startles me, and it’s very disconcerting. The meditation sessions are lovely. But I’m going to return this book because I absolutely hate being startled out of my relaxation.

Music way too loud
Revisado: 08-26-19
I really wanted to love this audiobook. However, I find the music very annoying, but it’s also very loud. I can hardly hear the Narrator. It’s a shame, because if the same music was playing very softly in the background, I’d probably be able to put up with it. Also, while I like the narrators voice, I wish it were softer and more soothing.

Clara Captivates Knitters
Revisado: 03-06-19
I have listened to this book three times, and I am sure to listen to it again. Clara captures the heart and soul knitters (REAL knitters who love everything about the yarn world as much as they love quality yarn ) and captivates readers with tales from everything on what it's like to be on television to memories of yarn festivals and trade shows.
If you are someone who is immersed in the knitting world (or if you long to be), this book is for you. You will also fall in love with Clara, who is down-to-earth, honest, and a brilliant expert on yarn. I hope she writes another book similar to this one and revisits the trade shows, festivals, etc., and maybe add some new ones. Stitches, perhaps? Or maybe a knitting retreat or two?

Historia
In Cruise Confidential, Brian David Bruns spills the dirt - or, in this case, the dirty water - on those romantic, fun-filled vacations at sea. His hilarious chronicle of the year he spent working for Carnival Cruise Lines takes listeners down into the areas where the crew works and lives, leaving listeners gasping with laughter as they're assaulted nonstop with events that range from the absurd to the utterly bizarre. Stewards fighting over food. Cutlery allowances and other nonsensical rules.

I liked it better after I listened to it again
Revisado: 04-13-18
What made the experience of listening to Cruise Confidential: A Hit Below the Waterline the most enjoyable?
It is fascinating to get an inside glimpse of what the crew experiences, the politics, the interactions.
What did you like best about this story?
The statistics at the end and the list of stupid questions cruisers ask made me laugh out loud.
Which scene was your favorite?
The scenes with his boss that show how unfair and prejudiced things can be.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It made me want to travel on cruise lines that have the highest ratings from the crew. I want to travel on a line where people are treated as fairly as possible.
Any additional comments?
I have recommended this book to those who love to cruise.

Simple, but Powerful
Revisado: 04-13-18
Would you listen to Sleep on the Plane and on Travels again? Why?
It allows me to relax and fall asleep. The repetitive phrases and relaxation instructions work for me. One thing I love about this book is that it doesn't have the "Audible hopes you enjoyed this book" at the end, which can be disrupting once relaxed or asleep.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The soothing voice of the narrator.
Which scene was your favorite?
I like the way you are guided to relax. All that is said is "Observe your," followed by the body part. Other relaxation recordings go into greater detail, which is boring and unnecessary.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, because it is made to listen in one sitting. However, if my plane ride is shorter than the recording, it still works just fine.
Any additional comments?
I wish that relaxation tapes would always end with the suggestion to stay asleep and bypass the awakening suggestions. Some do, but not all.

Historia
Reunited in love after 35 years and suffering from a serious case of pre-retirement wanderlust, Lynne and Tim Martin made a life-altering decision: They sold their house and possessions and hit the road to live internationally full-time. Now tethered to nothing but their suitcases, each other, and their next exotic location, they've never looked back. From sky-high pyramids in Mexico to monkeys in Marrakech, this delightful, inspiring memoir is a romantic tale of derring-do for grown-ups and a road map for anyone who dreams of turning the idea of life abroad into a reality.

Delightful!
Revisado: 06-24-14
Any additional comments?
I'm a book bitch. I have a horrible habit of buying book after book only to be disappointed in the book immediately or, if lucky, amused for a while yet bored beyond tears before the book ends.
Not with Home Sweet Anywhere.
Every minute entertained and delighted me. Lynne Martin is one of those writers who writes so well she makes it look easy . . . but to keep a memoir upbeat and fresh throughout is a gift.Martin writes in one of those conversational styles that leaves readers saying to themselves "Oh, I could do that!" -- but, make no mistake about it, Martin is a skilled writer. She's also a skilled reader who did an excellent job with the audio version. I cannot imagine listening to this book read by anyone else.
I'm addicted and can hardly wait for Martin's next book. My only complaint is that my husband and I do not have the Tim and Lynne as friends. I knew I loved them the minute I heard Lynne reference Guy Clark's LA Freeway (a favorite song of my husband's and mine) and, later, listened to her explain the passion behind Tim's skull ring.
These were two of the countless tidbits that made me smile along with Lynne's travel writing. Sorry, you'll have to read the book to get the details. No spoilers here.Approach this book expecting to be entertained. Thank goodness, this is NOT a how-to . . . unless you take reading it as a lesson in how to have a good time, in which case you'll get exactly what you pay for.
