Nina once bought into the idea that her fancy liberal arts degree would lead to a fulfilling career. When that dream crashed, she turned to stealing from rich kids in LA alongside her wily Irish boyfriend, Lachlan. Nina learned from the best: Her mother was the original con artist, hustling to give her daughter a decent childhood despite their wayward life. But when her mom gets sick, Nina puts everything on the line to help her, even if it means running her most audacious, dangerous scam yet.

just moved toooooo slowly
Revisado: 06-28-20
I gave up. there was a lot of family drama and what is known as "character development", and a lot of background, but entire chapters came and went before a little thing might happen related to the actual solving of the crime.

Historia
At 38, garden shop owner Jessie McBride thinks her chances for romance are years behind her, and after her failed marriage, she’s fine with that. She lives contentedly with her fiery mother and her quiet, headstrong daughter. But the unexpected arrival of two men on Glory Road make her question if she’s really happy with the status quo. Handsome, wealthy Sumner Tate asks her to arrange flowers for his daughter’s wedding, and Jessie finds herself drawn to his continued attention. And Ben Bradley, her lingering what-could-have-been, moves back to the red dirt road.

like a warm southern evening...
Revisado: 02-27-20
As a lifelong Southerner, I found the author's accent and cadence to be authentic, and the pace of the story was smooth and even. This is not an edge-of-your-seat story or a gripping mystery, but it's a bit of a mature romance and explores the relationship between mother - daughter - grandmother. I appreciate that there is no drama or angst or conflict between the generations, but respect, maturity and love. The characters appear to have been brought up in the old fashioned way of being gentle, polite and respectful to others, especially to their parents. It was a refreshing change of pace from the modern day world and took me back to my childhood and youth when you treated others with manners and respect, a la Mayberry, Andy and Aunt Bea. I also appreciate the lack of lurid sex and profanity. The story is strong enough to stand without it.

a little too much graphic sex and abuse that I don't feel added to the story. it seemed to try to be too twisted, and a good story doesn't need all of that.

The former Texas debutante, who never felt at home in her Southern skin, had found liberation--or so she thought. Until the day she gets an urgent call from her mother, reporting that: One, the Symphony Association Debutante Ball, which Carlisle's family has sponsored for years, is about to be called off; Two, her mother's divorce has the whole town talking; And three, the family's good name is at stake and Carlisle is the only one who can fix it all.

not as good as the first
Revisado: 08-01-19
Firstly, I wish audiobooks would use actual Southerners with actual Southern accents. It lends authenticity. Otherwise it's just annoying to a Southerner. Secondly, the story just wasn't interesting enough, and seemed slow. However, I absolutely loved the first one in the series.

Superheroes have always been Leia Birch Briggs' weakness. One tequila-soaked night at a comics convention, the usually level-headed graphic novelist is swept off her barstool by a handsome and anonymous Batman. It turns out the caped crusader has left her with more than just a nice, fuzzy memory. She's having a baby boy - an unexpected but not unhappy development in the 38-year-old's life.

I enjoyed the basic plot of the story.
Revisado: 06-25-19
basic plot was good, but sometimes the aurthur would go on rants about social injustice, which I don't appreciate, as I read for escapism. Also there was a lot of subject matter revolving around fangirl comic book things which I do not relate to, and found did not really bring anything to the storyline.
