Too close to romance for me
Revisado: 11-15-19
Good story and creative imagery. The sex scenes were a little too detailed. I'm no prude but it is a little gross to have it come on when you start your car at the gas station with the windows down.

It soon emerges that the dead man was holding the Hugh Chalice, a Lincoln relic with a curiously bloody history. Audible! give us consistency! please!
Revisado: 06-06-18
For some reason after several books from a different publisher narrated by David Thorpe, now there are three in a row narrated by Andrew Wincott from this publisher. I'm sure Wincott is fine but changing the voices and name pronunciation midstream is frustrating. I'm sure it is a UK/US version issue but I am attached to the characters' voices and I spent this book and the last waiting for them to be over so I could get back to Thorpe's narration.
Edit: I gave up and skipped ahead to other books. I've now made it to a new several Wincott books....it is really Michael's voice that I am so attached to that I cannot abide the difference. I will buy these books because I am into this series but I will only listen when I run out of Thorpe-narrated books.

Excellent narration
Revisado: 07-04-17
The person who suggested we were in the shire and that a Spaniard should narrate since the z's sound like a speech impediment is apparently not familiar with how Spanish is spoken in Spain. It does sound strange to those of us who are used to how Spanish is pronounced in our hemisphere but it is accurate for Spain so chill out and don't be a jerk.
The narration was excellent. He reads different ages and genders in a way that makes you forget you're being read to. Well done.

Historia
A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. A strange collection of very curious photographs. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets 16-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

Accents and Uptalk
Revisado: 03-23-16
Jesse Bernstein has narrated several audio books we have enjoyed. But his accents are pretty bad here and all of the female characters use "uptalk" and can't seem to not change their pitch at the end of their sentences putting them in a constant state of inquiry. That is really annoying. But I still enjoyed the book and would listen to it again.

meh, lost me.

I love these kinds of books and it held me until the middle but then the story jumped, seemed abrupt, and ceased to make sense.

complaints...not education
Revisado: 04-03-15
I thought this would teach my son some things he wasn't hearing in school. Instead he learned that some people whine a lot about how things suck without actually fixing them. I actually agree with this author and his politics but you don't rally people to a cause by endlessly complaining.

In this 12-lecture series, you'll encounter a religion that is perhaps the most diverse of all; one that worships more gods and goddesses than any other, and one that rejects the notion that there is only one path to the divine. These lectures provide a window into the roots of, perhaps, all religions. You'll explore the course of Hinduism's 5,000-year journey.

I enjoyed this a lot! It was well organized, provided contextual information beyond a recitation of facts and I learned new information about a subject I've read about for years.
