Historia
Newly minted doctor Jane McGill is in hell. Not literally, of course. But between her drug addict patients, sleepless nights on call, and battling wits with the sadistic yet charming Sexy Surgeon, Jane can’t imagine an afterlife much worse than her first month of medical internship at County Hospital. And then there’s the devil herself: Jane’s senior resident Dr. Alyssa Morgan. When Alyssa becomes absolutely hell-bent on making her new interns pay tenfold for the deadly sin of incompetence, Jane starts to worry that she may not make it through the year with her soul or her sanity still intact.

Medical people you probably wont like this book
Revisado: 05-02-25
Disappointingly non-factual, illogical, and inaccurate story in many regards Example… The resident misses a pneumothorax on x-ray yet the intern at a quick glance does? Yet that intern does not know what to do for a diabetic patient experiencing hypoglycemia? There are many such discrepancies in this book. But even more frustrating to me is that the protagonist never stands up for herself. Even though the ego of an overworked intern is challenged by long hours, tempermental treatment by others etc etc there comes a point when the pot boils over. For the protagonist that is long overdue. She NEVER stands up for herself! I’m just so frustrated at this implausible book. Normally this author writes to the high drama, young adult type reader, but I usually do get pleasure from her books anyway. Not this one however.

Don’t expect logic or common sense
Revisado: 04-23-25
McFadden is a good story teller! But, & I think for some it’s a BIG but…so many holes in the logic of this story. If you can ignore that, or even in despite of that, it is still a gripping yarn.
Holes like…no accessory heat source in the mansion of a rich novelist? The house staff are strangely silent to events?. Sylvia doesn’t take advantage of help offered? Adam dosen’t notice Victoria becoming more alert?
I guess just read the story and don’t ask questions. To bad though that McFadden didn’t do a little more tightening up or this would have been an executional suspense novel.

Twisty and unexpected
Revisado: 03-24-25
Story was intriguing, actually couldn’t stop listening. Imaginative yarn and unanticipated turns. Thought the protagonist would grow from the intervention but dynamics of self growth were only briefly touched upon. Regardless this was a good yarn. One irritating point is the narrators male voice was awful.

YA novel without doubt
Revisado: 08-28-24
Poor writing, wrong words, “deduced to tears” wow, likely Reduced to tears would make a whole lot more sense. So much Drama in this book! And WaY too many kissing descriptions.
Decent story line, with the required twists to get past all the kissing and emotionalism. Definitely a lot more appealing to the teen/young adult reader instead of a mature audience. “It Ends With Us” was better written but still full of high drama. Emotionalism is one thing, hyoerbole and over use of metaphors is quite another. This will likely be the last work by this author that I’ll read.

At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother.

Implausible story and dialogue though it had potential
Revisado: 12-19-23
Some narration comes off as whiney and difficult to listen to (Meredith). Story has potential but needs a lot or refinement. Too many side roads that lead nowhere. Dialogue naive. Like many fictional conflicts, most are caused by a lack of emotional intelligence and effective communication. If rate this definitely as a YA.
