Good story, great performance.
Revisado: 12-17-22
As an apocalyptic fiction garbage disposal, I’ve read and listened to more than I’d like to admit to. The performance is a solid 8 maybe 9 if the story gave the performer more to work with, but the story is a meh +. I can’t exactly put my finger on what I don’t like. I think mainly, it feels like the writer didn’t know what the wand was , and was workout out along the way. Still, a solid read if you need a new “relaxing apocalyptic fiction” book to listen to while cleaning.

Terrible, classist garbage. 1 star is generous
Revisado: 08-05-22
As someone who doesn’t follow political norms, I often have to “look the other way” a little bit from to time when reading “prepper” style books. I love apocalyptic fiction, so it’s a burden I’m willing to bear from to time. This book however, mentions abortion, food stamps, and children “dreaming” of growing up to be welfare moochers, just like their parents. And after a grand total of 10 minutes, I couldn’t take anymore. So take my advice and don’t even try with this one unless you want to be insulted.
This “author” seems to have forgotten that not all apocalyptic fiction fans are alt right Christian Nationalists. He’s completely offended a huge percentage of Americans before finishing two chapters. This ass hat literally insinuated that a huge percentage of teachers would just stop showing up for work, rather choosing to instead apply for unemployment and “live off of government welfare, just like students they have seen” like, who in the hell insults educators like this?
I gave up and got a refund, after 10 minutes of disgust I decided I couldn’t take anymore. I’d advise anyone who isn’t a complete narcissist like the author to save their credit, and their 10 minutes.

A bit technical, but a nice payoff.
Revisado: 05-11-20
This one was a bit distanced from the emotion normally carried through apocalyptic fiction, also, the technical jargon was a bit rough at times. However, it absolutely offered a lot to imagine and had a good payoff. It absolutely needs a sequel to explore the world the ending created.

Sci-fi meets teen nostalgia, a no regrets read.
Revisado: 08-30-19
My love of dystopian novels brought me to this one, and if you've got a 12-17 year old, this will be an awesome read for them. Of course, if you want some nostalgia of your young teenage years mixed with an interesting "what if?" scenario of the Earth's rotation slowing down, then I promise, this is a no regrets read.

Historia
One of my dad’s favorite jokes about getting older was: “I went out for coffee when I was twenty-one and when I got back I was fifty-eight!” I get what he meant now. Time flies. My first book, If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a "B" Movie Actor, was published back in 2001 and it chronicles the adventures of a “mid-grade, kind of hammy actor" (my words), cutting his teeth on exploitation movies far removed from mainstream Hollywood. This next book, an “Act II” if you will, could be considered my “maturing years” in show business, when I began to say “no” more often and gravitated toward self-generated material. Taking stock in the overall quality of my life, I fled Los Angeles and moved to a remote part of Oregon to renew, regroup and reload. If that sounds tame, the journey from Evil Dead to Spider-Man to Burn Notice was long, with plenty of adventures/mishaps along the way. I never pictured myself hovering above Baghdad in a Blackhawk helicopter, facing a pack of wild dogs in Bulgaria, or playing an aging Elvis Presley with cancer on his penis - how can you predict this stuff? The sheer lunacy of show business is part of the fun for me and I hope you'll come along for the ride.

Awesome inside look at the Hollywood experience.
Revisado: 05-02-19
An obvious choice for Bruce "the chin" Campbell fans, but I would urge anyone who is looking to learn a little bit more about television, movie, or book creation to give this easy to listen to chance. You're definitely in for a laugh, and of course, some new suggestions for movies you may not have seen yet.

This true modern masterpiece is built around the two fateful words that make up the title and herald the end - “Alas, Babylon.” When a nuclear holocaust ravages the United States, a thousand years of civilization are stripped away overnight, and tens of millions of people are killed instantly. But for one small town in Florida, miraculously spared, the struggle is just beginning, as men and women of all backgrounds join together to confront the darkness....

A great apocalyptic read.
Revisado: 02-22-18
A great story for anyone who loves the "nuts and bolts" of post apocalyptic fiction. While a lot of apocalyptic fiction includes tons of action, and never ceasing antagonists, this story is actually quite calm and while it was very interesting, I never felt like I had to rush through some shootout just to hear how they set up a water supply, or what they did for food. in general, just a good read.
Also, an important note. A lot of apocalyptic fiction today is written from the Republican/conservative point of view, this however is refreshingly not. It is not overly political either. it is on the sexist side, as far as "a woman's place" and all that, buy given the time period I'm not surprised. There is also some talk of racism, but the narrator makes it clear he is pro integration, and the black characters, while somewhat over "southernised" have as full storylines as any other characters.

Great closure from the first story.
Revisado: 06-29-16
While lacking some of the excitement of the original, and understandably so a few years after the original event, this story provided excellent closure for fans of the original. The situations were realistic, and so where the characters reactions.
However, I was not a huge fan of the person reading the story for the audio book. All the women sounded like nagging old fishwives.
