Historia
Adult Third Culture Kids are rapidly increasing in number around the world. A people group hidden in plain sight around us, they are children of diplomats, military personnel, missionaries, and refugees. They can look like us, sound like us, act like us, but then also jump into a culture and country on the other side of the world where they may look like a foreigner but act and sound like a local. These people who grew up in multiple countries during their formative years are frequently misunderstood by their peers and family. However, they have a wealth of experiences and skills they've ...

a personal view on tck
Revisado: 02-13-25
This is a tck book mainly based on a questionnaire the auther meens sent to people reasably in her own group. it is based from people who's passport are American and looks at politics and religion mainly from a Christian American point of view. (and she does use a Jewish pert hate phrase 'jewdio Christian culture ' to mean Christian and absolutely nothing Jewish).
That having said it was very interesting to be able to see her experience and be able to compair where this has overlap with tck from my background. the overlaps and diftrenses really helped me and gave me a starting point to explore the issue furth.
The voice sinc was surprisingly good.

Historia
Introducing a new translation of Laozi’s classic work that makes the intimidating approachable and the complex comprehensible. Translated by best-selling author Ken Liu and read by acclaimed actor B.D. Wong, this new take on the Dao De Jing speaks directly to the sensibilities of a modern audience. Liu dispenses with footnotes and the granular details of academic debate in favor of presenting Laozi’s invaluable writing as clearly and colorfully as possible.

Painful Propaganda
Revisado: 10-06-24
The tone of this book is very familiar to me from history museums in Hong Kong run by the Chinese government. It has a strong mortal message that is optimistic and repeated over and over again. These is some basic information on confusonisme which is helpful. How they deal with the we killed and buried everything and everyone to do with confusonisme during the cultural revelation to the it is magically gotten a resurgence all buy it's self, was very interesting.
the synthetic voice was actually rather good.

Historia
In Polygamy: A Very Short Introduction, Sarah M.S. Pearsall explores what plural marriages reveal about the inner workings of marriage and describes the controversies surrounding it. The book emphasizes the diversity of historical polygamist societies, from the Shi'ite Muslims and Wendat men who practiced short-term marriages to the Mixteca, Maori, Inca, Algonquin, and Marta indigenous people of North America and the Pacific Islands. Pearsall also explains the divides within Christianity that led to Joseph Smith's establishment of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Revisado: 08-19-24
this book very much takes a historical view of poligami and shortly touches on polyamorie. a canded short recounting of colonial operation, counter colonialism in positive and negative sens and the raped change in non monogamy.
it was helpfull to me. I always did wonder why Christianity was against poligami and now I have some sort of awareness.

Historia
He runs his own business and coaches Little League. She drives a minivan, and she'd be lost without her trusty BlackBerry. They go on date nights. Their kids attend public schools, play sports, and take music lessons. They live in a roomy house in the 'burbs. They're about as mainstream as families come. They're also polygamists. The Dargers move the conversation away from child brides, Warren Jeffs, and the FLDS to more mainstream polygamists who willingly enter into plural relationships as adults.

Revisado: 08-08-24
i really like the versions points of view and voices. Each wife and the husband had the a historical story of their family background, how their marriage came to be, viewed on prenrting in this situation and how it was to come out in the media. the older children who wanted to also had a voice.
as a polyamorus person who is also a poligamist (i am a woman married to my wife and my non-binary spouse) I found their experience useful and recognisable even though they come from a very different point of view.
They make a good case for the harm of criminalisation and the inherent receisem in this state of being. They do see the call to legalising thutch garages as going to far but the inequality the non-legaly married partner experiences which is mentioned in one of the chapters is exactly the reason I would certainly advocate for legal status. There is so much internalised fonbia that they and also the polyamorus community does not even dare advocate for equality.
thank you for your opened and bravery in writing this book!

Revisado: 05-29-24
As a polyamorous religious woman, married to two wives i am so refreshed and encouraged to hear good and careful resurch on the whay racist white centric monogamous asumtions have been used to disenfranchise poligamist people. Also from with in the polyamorus community with the 'that's not us' stance.
Thank you so much for crafting these some beautiful some painful stories and placing them them with in a geopolitical context.
We will use this as a book discutions in our poly talk group.

Jill and Derick knew a normal life wasn’t possible for them. As a star on the popular TLC reality show 19 Kids and Counting, Jill grew up in front of viewers who were fascinated by her family’s way of life. She was the responsible, second daughter of Jim Bob and Michelle’s nineteen kids; always with a baby on her hip and happy to wear the modest ankle-length dresses with throat-high necklines.

that Jill has read this book out herself add greatly too this book. not only does she read out exceptionally well she tells her story with an open heart.
thith book helped me as a homeschooling mum who was inspired by mother duggeurd, to recognise the good and see where things went wrong.
As an abuse survivor her recocition of the complexity of sutch situations and at the same time having clear lines between right and wrong is healing. As is her description of her relationship with G-d, even if we are not of the same faith.

as I started this play it annoyed me a little. i was unsure if I would finish. However this was a stage setting in a multilayered cyclical story in wich not only the characters but also the character of the author matures and grows, bringing so many themes and stories into new perspectives.

good and entertaining history
Revisado: 05-08-23
the author is very good at bringing out the complexities of situations. People doing there best in there own fallible ways. The only subject I missed this nuanced view in was the subject of religion. The tamludic principle used my Dr. Hirschfeld on gender is not recognised although the principle is wel explained. it the end it also becomes rather American centered. But what to put in and leave out seems a very hard call to me.
I would like to thank the author for educating me and giving me a spring board to delve deeper.
Good and engaging reading.
