Get this guy outta here
Revisado: 03-09-25
Hermione could kill Ron and she would still be a better person than him. Ron is so awful.
Also, its weird that the Order of the Phoenix wizards don't fight to kill enemy death eaters. Death eaters murder and torture without restraint, but order wizards stick entirely to non lethal spells when fighting them.

Historia
Since time immemorial, humans have worshipped the gods they call Fhrey, truly a race apart: invincible in battle, masters of magic, and seemingly immortal. But when a god falls to a human blade, the balance of power between humans and those they thought were gods changes forever. Now only a few stand between humankind and annihilation: Raithe, reluctant to embrace his destiny as the God Killer; Suri, a young seer burdened by signs of impending doom; and Persephone, who must overcome personal tragedy to lead her people. The Age of Myth is over. The time of rebellion has begun.

This series isn't worth your time
Revisado: 02-01-25
This first book is straight forward and charming with some genuinely good twists and characters. The next books however, are depressing, drawn out and remove any sense of the character's agency by saying that everything that happens to them was meant to happen and that their journey was leading up to the terrible decisions they are forced to make.
The author writes these long depressing periods where the characters have to grapple with some insurmountable problem where the only option is something awful, just to end up doing the thing anyway. No better plan reveals itself, no last minute save, just hours of tedium, followed by stupidity. The end of the third book is about a main characters hours long 'sacrifice'. Its not even interesting because they did the exact same thing in the last book.
This series is frustrating, depressing and worst of all, its boring.

Kate Readings narration is bad
Revisado: 01-25-25
Her narration here is worse then her narration of the Stormlight archive. She reads in an emotionless monotone way and makes no change in her voice between characters of the same gender. The first scene she reads in this book involves 6 different women and they all sound the same so I have to pay close attention to understand who is speaking.
If this was the quality of her work 19 years ago I don't understand how she has gone on to narrate many popular series.
I feel insane having to suffer through her work to listen to series I like where so many people dont seem to have any problem at all. I dont like being so negative against someones hard work.
The point of audiobooks to me has always been as a way to enjoy books even when I dont have the time to physically read them. Narrators fail in my eyes when I have to think about who is actually talking. Readings narration is a constant struggle to discern who is doing what.

Cant take it seriously
Revisado: 01-25-25
This book starts of very good with an engaging introduction to the world and wonderful narration, but it started to sour more and more until I could barely bring myself to finish out the last hour.
The narration starts of wonderful, but by the end she alternates between yelling and whispering every other line. I had to keep turning the volume down and then when the regular narrations started I needed to turn it back up again, repeat this about 30 times.
The characters are infuriating. Every mistake is repeated half a dozen times. They react to every new thing with fear, always fear. Theres never a point when their fear of the dark lord or whatever turn to anger or humor or numbness. The only times they get angry is with their 'friends'.
Every encounter is repeated several times, but the characters reactions never change so everyone past the first feels like a waste of time.

Travis Baldree's best narration yet
Revisado: 01-11-25
Baldree's narration of this series has been stellar. You can feel the weight of Varics past lives with each word spoken. The emotion Baldree manages to put into this performance is just as good as the best from Michael Kramer.

Historia
Cradle isn’t over yet. Lindon’s journey may have ended, but there are still more tales to tell. The stories in this collection will show you the world after Cradle, those left behind, and even some legends from long ago. Witness the first Uncrowned King tournament. Visit the Monarchs and their voyages in the lands beyond. Get to know the Abidan in their homes, and meet the people of new worlds as they cross paths with familiar faces. And, of course, check in on some old friends.

Where's the gang?
Revisado: 01-11-25
Each of these shorts were fun in there own way, but none of them had the emotional connection between characters that I love. It seems like everyone's relationships to each other are set in stone now that they've ascended. At the same time it feels like they're growing apart.
Mercy grew to be my favorite character over the course of Cradle and it sucks that she isn't given anything to do. The stories she appears in revolve around her family or her friends..

Historia
In a world full to bursting with would-be heroes, Jim couldn't be less interested in saving the day. His fireballs fizzle. He's awfully grumpy. Plus, he's been dead for about sixty years. When a renegade necromancer wrenches him from eternal slumber and into a world gone terribly, bizarrely wrong, all Jim wants is to find a way to die properly, once and for all. On his side, he's got a few shambling corpses, an inept thief, and a powerful death wish. But he's up against tough odds....

I got this book after finishing the Star Pilot series by the same author. His narration in this earlier book is good, but worse then his later book.
Also, weirdly many of the characters in this book share names and personalities with ones in his other series.

Abrupt ending
Revisado: 01-04-25
The aftermath of the conflict of this book is wrapped up in one chapter as everyone is rushed off to their next objective.
Our characters didn't spend much time together in this book at all, and they are split up again at the end of this one. They are much better as a group, but it looks like they will spend the next book separated again.

Good drama

There is some relationship drama in this book that I liked, but it doesn't seem like it will go anywhere anytime soon.
I do hope that the characters get together at some point in the future.

Starts off slow
Revisado: 01-04-25
The start is abrupt and you are just throw into the world without any preparation. This initially put me off, but as I continued past the first chapters it grew on me. I like the characters and the setting is interesting.
