Excellent narrative acting!
Revisado: 03-28-25
Emilia Fox could read the phone book and sound compelling. But Gillian McAllister's book is fine material, peppered with beautifully crafted phrases, albeit freighted with a ridiculous plot.

Disappointing end
Revisado: 02-27-25
Intriguing plot and taut writing. For once, a woman is imprisoning and torturing a man instead of the opposite. Her deluded attempts to force him to love her will resonate in a comical way with the lovelorn, but the details are way too gruesome for my taste. The disappointing end leaves a heroic character in jeopardy and the villains uncaught and unpunished.

Like YA lit but even dumber
Revisado: 01-22-25
Insipid plot, superficial writing, peopled with self-absorbed and annoyingly naive characters and pushing a progressive social agenda at the same time. I kept checking the title details to make sure I hadn't missed a Young Adult tag because the writing is so juvenile.

Excellent narration
Revisado: 11-18-24
The wonderful narrative actress who read the book elevated the material significantly. The book itself is a moderately interesting story, with some good personal details that seemed like actual memory, but limp and unsatisfying in terms of suspense.

Endless and unsuspenseful
Revisado: 11-15-24
Relentless yammering on about her relationship with her friend. Is her friend dead? Is she alive? That question can only sustain the reader for so long...and then you start skipping ahead ten chapters at a time and the protagonist is STILL just trying to figure out whether friend is dead or alive.

Almost satire

The narrator's tone was perfect. Whether the author intended this as satire or not, it's darkly funny.

Historia
Homicide is always an abomination, but there is something exceptionally disturbing about the victim discovered in a high, lonely place: a corpse with a mouth full of sand, abandoned at a crime scene seemingly devoid of tracks or useful clues. Though it goes against his better judgment, Navajo tribal police lieutenant Joe Leaphorn cannot help but suspect the hand of a supernatural killer.

The worst writing ever.
Revisado: 03-08-24
was this book actually published? The writing is so poor that it is completely impossible to listen to the audiobook. Even an elementary school grammarian would become frustrated with the absurd sentence, constructions, and other literary faux pas.

Why we think it’s a great listen: An all-time Audible favorite that mixes historic fiction, adventure, and romance with one of the most fascinating literary devices: time travel. Outlander introduces an exhilarating world of heroism and breathtaking thrills as one woman is torn between past and present, passion and love. In 1945, former combat nurse Claire Randall returns from World War II and joins her husband for a second honeymoon. But their blissful reunion is shattered....

Time travelling with witty narrator

The writer's mind-expanding time travel concept, humor, and excellent eye for detail kept me engaged until the continual descriptions of torture and sexual abuse had me as nauseated as the poor hapless studmuffin Jamie.

Clever writing and unusual POV
Revisado: 02-12-24
It isn't offer that a novel's narrator is, unusually, a villain -- one whose acerbic wit and maudlin romantic fantasies, love for her cat, and occasional victimization at the hands of people more twisted than she is, make her just sympathetic enough.
Wonderful, crisp narrative and a fabulous actor performing the novel.
The ending is quite satisfying.
