It isn't offer that a novel's narrator is, unusually, a villain -- one whose acerbic wit and maudlin romantic fantasies, love for her cat, and occasional victimization at the hands of people more twisted than she is, make her just sympathetic enough.
Wonderful, crisp narrative and a fabulous actor performing the novel.
The ending is quite satisfying.

I finished this one in a day while I painted the kitchen. Not being hard to figure out who the 'bad guy' was didn't distract from a great story. Well told with a few twists to keep me on my toes. Love the readers voice and will make note of her name for future selections.

Over the years, A J McDine has become a fave author of mine. I'm absolutely hooked on “The Promise You Made.” Her writing expertly weaves a complex web of secrets, lies and broken promises that kept me guessing until the very end. Fiona Mitchell's narration is phenomenal, bringing the characters to life with her accomplished vocals. I love British psychological thrillers, and this one is a standout. The fact that it's available on Audible Plus at no extra cost is just the icing on the cake. The story follows Rose, who's forced to confront her buried secrets when her goddaughter Eloise turns up on her doorstep covered in blood. With its twists and turns, this book is impossible to put down, and I devoured it with delight… for a second listen. The shocking ending is the perfect payoff to a gripping story. If you're a fan of psychological thrillers, do yourself a favor and grab “The Promise You Made” – you won’t regret it.

This was an interesting story and I got in to it very quickly. I didn’t like the ending and couldn’t figure out if there was a follow-up book. Something was said about part 2 but didn’t catch and no time yet to go back and listen. Overall I enjoyed the story and narrator was great! No GD blues.

People seemed too willing to kill other people.

I love the plot and how it intertwined
between the past and the present. The narration was excellent, and so was the writing. There were so many different plot lines that it was just incredible to be honest

This is a true domestic thriller

Reminded me of a female version of fatal attraction. Thought I knew the ending midway through, but boy was I wrong. The main character is so flawed, to be almost annoying at times but necessary for the story. I’d recommend.

So. Liked the story. Almost felt like I wanted to jump to the end - DONT!! Promise it’s worth the wait!! Did everything from make my heart cry to air punch an asshole to the back of his head. Loved the slow unwrapping of this. Makes my evil twin smile in her sleep!
