Historia
In Indigenous Continent, acclaimed historian Pekka Hämäläinen presents a sweeping counternarrative that shatters the most basic assumptions about American history. Shifting our perspective away from Jamestown, Plymouth Rock, the Revolution, and other well-trodden episodes on the conventional timeline, he depicts a sovereign world of Native nations whose members, far from helpless victims of colonial violence, dominated the continent for centuries after the first European arrivals.

Non-Critical History
Revisado: 03-28-25
I was really excited for an in depth history of Native Americans, however I found that it lacked scholarly rigor. The writer does a poor job of discussing sources, or how he chooses what narrative to tell for a particular event. He

The book is pretty bad to start, but than it starts repeating the same phrases, not as an artistic tool, but because it's either written by an AI or an idiot who forgot what he wrote in the last section.
If you want to learn about the Assyrian church, you're better off with Wikipedia.

A Crotchety Old Man
Revisado: 03-09-25
It would be a much better book if he didn't feel the need to whine about today's culture. It sounds far more like what you would expect to here from an old man on facebook, than a pastor writing a book.
Everything he says about sanctification is fine, but even that feels incomplete. It is a book I would be ashamed to have published under my name, and given that I am not an author or some world renowned theologian, maybe he should have higher standards than me?

Historia
Booker T. Washington fought his way out of slavery to become an educator, statesman, political shaper, and proponent of the "do-it-yourself" idea. In his autobiography, he describes his early life as a slave on a Virginia plantation, his steady rise during the Civil War, his struggle for education, his schooling at the Hampton Institute, and his years as founder and president of the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama, which was devoted to helping minorities learn useful, marketable skills.

It was fascinating hearing the life of Booker T. Washington in his own words. I found it especially interesting having just listened to Frederick Douglas' first autobiography.

Historia
Without John C. Houbolt, a mid-level engineer at NASA, Apollo 11 would never have made it to the moon. Top NASA engineers on the project, including Werner Von Braun, strongly advocated for a single, huge spacecraft to travel to the moon, land, and return to Earth. It's the scenario used in 1950s cartoons and horror movies about traveling to outer space. Houbolt had another idea: Lunar Orbit Rendezvous. LOR would link two spacecraft in orbit while the crafts were travelling at 3,600 miles an hour around the moon. His plan was ridiculed and considered unthinkable.

More Podcast Than Book

An interesting subject, but the author tends to wander in a way that makes it feel more like a podcaster following their whims, rather than a professional author.

Historia
Saint Francis of Assisi is one of the most influential men in the whole of human history. This acclaimed biography of Saint Francis examines the life of a pure artist, a man "whose whole life was a poem". Here is the Saint Francis who prayed and danced with pagan abandon, who talked to animals, and who invented the crèche. Yet Francis also acknowledged the mystic responsibility to communicate his divine experience.

You probably won't enjoy this book, and if you know much about investing it won't be worth much. However, it does a good job explaining the basics of understanding a bussiness and it's value, as well as many of the traps that befall people not used to reading balance sheets.

Historia
While researching and writing, Adoniram Judson, America's First Foreign Missionary, I became very frustrated. The book was already longer than my normal 15-20 page, 30 minute read. How could I possible honor his three wives, keep the narrative running smoothly and not confuse the reader with too many characters? I came up with, what I hope, is a great idea! I decided to do an entirely separate book, featuring each one of Adoniram's amazing wives, her early background, and individual story. I really enjoyed being able to give each woman the respect due her. Each one played a major role in ...

Revisado: 08-15-24
It lacked depth and style. It jumped from storytelling to dry fact reading, and the author made a number of strange claims(maybe true, maybe not, but just said without explanation).
The author also inserted themselves sometimes in weird ways.
